I would like to see the largest one around, if anybody has info or photos of one. I've often dreamed of having one built around a Zenoah G-62 or GT-80, of maybe even a 3W-150! (these are engines that I'm familiar with and have "in stock") Give me a member number and please post those photos! Thanks in advance, Blair

Count me in, Guys and Girls! I just stumbled onto this forum after searching for "The World's Largest Kadet Senior" online. I've been flying them for YEARS! My first R/C plane was a kit-built Kadet Senior, with an O.S. FS60 four stroke. I still have my second one after all these years, even though the first one met with an untimely demise when it got behind me, and went in before I could turn around! (I still mourn that one, as I put TONS of hours into it!) I have four currently, including a slightly scaled-up one with an O.S. FS120 Surpass on the nose! My second one is over 25 years old, (O.S. 70 powered, tail-dragger with cowl and wheel pants) and still flies GREAT! I've owned several LT-40 models, a couple of Senoritas, and an LT-25! I bought my oldest Grandson a Kadet EP for his Birthday, and it flies GREAT, too! I would like to see the largest one around, if anybody has info or photos of one. I've often dreamed of having one built around a Zenoah G-62 or GT-80, of maybe even a 3W-150! I'm sure I once saw, SOMEWHERE ON-LINE, a Kadet that was nearly man-carrying size but I'll be danged if I can find it again. Maybe one day...
So, after quite a dry spell, here's the SIG Kadet Brotherhood, as I've got it today:[TABLE="width: 507"]

The Kadet is finally built, just over 80 hours of pure enjoyment.
I can't wait to fly this plane and of course its going to start snowing today, lets not forget its winter too!
Since I was using a transparent covering, I had to eliminate the glue stains on the balsa, so I rattle canned all the raw wood with a sanding sealer lacquer in a can, not the deft stuff you can buy at home depot, it also does not effect the covering sticking in fact the covering sticks better, got a smarter way please let me know.
I think also the box art plane was covered in a fabric, clear coated and painted, I'm to lazy!! to use fabric, I sure you Sig historians know if this is true or not.
I also pick up a nice 1980 vintage Sig Kadet MarkII in pristine condition, think if I find more time this late spring I'll build it.
Now that I've built a Kadet can I become a member of the brotherhoodLOL

I think also the box art plane was covered in a fabric, clear coated and painted, I'm to lazy!! to use fabric, I sure you Sig historians know if this is true or not.
I also pick up a nice 1980 vintage Sig Kadet MarkII in pristine condition, think if I find more time this late spring I'll build it.
Now that I've built a Kadet can I become a member of the brotherhoodLOL

First; congrats on owning your Kadet, she's a great plane and I have ZERO doubt you'll enjoy her for a long long time.
Second; ignore the snow. All the snow does is makes a Kadet even easier to see on the ground.
I like your method of stain removal - I'm taking notes on this one. Yeah, pretty cool.
I'm sure there are others with more knowledge on this but, as far as I know, the original picture art on the SIGRC58 kit is transparent "monokote" (actually, whatever their real covering is) and opaque black. I'm sure of one thing though, I've never seen a Kadet Sr done in the factory colors that wasn't transparent red - GOTTA show off those bones. Gotta tell ya, yours is really beautifully done. I, personally, don't have the patience to totally recreate that pattern. Well done indeed.
Ahhhh, the Mk-II. If yours comes out anything close to mine you're going to find that she flies somewhat "heavier" than the Sr. The Srs that I've seen flying are all much "floatier" than my Mk-II, slower approach speeds, lighter landings, all that. Of course, the official numbers for each are much different too and I'm sure that's the explanation. The Sr. weighs in at 3-4 lbs officially on a 78" wing, while the Mk-II is smaller and weighs in at 5 lbs on a 57.25" wing (that's 21" less wing). My own actually weighs 5.4 lbs (I build them like tanks anyway) and when she touches down, she stays down. I'm in love with her though - I'm thinking of building another this winter just to "play" with the design a bit.
Anyway...
Hey, gotta do the "official" stuff: Welcome (at last) to the SIG Kadet Brotherhood my friend. Gotcha logged with #198.
And here's the SIG Kadet Brotherhood, as I've got it today:

Now that I've built a Kadet can I become a member of the brotherhoodLOL
You certainly put on a Monokote clinic! Well done indeed!

Thanks Pork Chop, that's ultracote, and by the way I got the same, almost field box as you do LOL
I used gemini lacquers, thy have any lacquer sheen and sanding sealer in a can for touch-up on lacquer finishes http://www.gemini-coatings.com/ there is a place to buy in OKC, its about 8 bucks a can for the sanding sealer.
I don't know why it hides the glue better, maybe cuz its a industrial product.

I never tested for fuel proof, but i'll test today and let you know.
will be in OKC jan 2 to see the wife's sister's new born my question is how the heck do you Oklahoman's fly R/C, every time I'm in OK its windy!?

I'm not sure if the lacquers are fuel proof, for that I use topflite's Lustrekote which comes in many colors and builds a nice finish, but the clear coats will not cover glue stains well, so I use the Gemini lacquer for under transparent coverings. Also the Gemini is mostly clear finishes for the painting industry, since I'm a painter I just know of this product.

I used to reserve the last flying for the day for my Kadet Jr when the winds were up and a lot of cross winds + rollers (wind off the hill in back would set up s horizontal rolling air mass) across the runway. Had to be sharp on the sticks and oversized ailerons helped also. Would sometimes get flipped inverted. That it was a bit hairy. You did learn exactly how, when and where they formed. But they sometimes formed unexpectedly.
Also went out to the dry lake beds in southern California when the winds would gust 30, 40mph and more. My almost zero dihedra large aileron Kadet Jr was was a real hoot to fly in those conditions when everything else remained in the van. Ya learned real fast to NEVER EVER let the plane get more than just a little bit downwind of you. Almost got hit in the face once when I was about hovering it right in front of me, maybe 5-10 feet at head level. I dropped to the ground. Still held the TX and managed to recover. The last time I tried that silly stunt.
I always flew my Jr's like they were expendable.
BYTW I have been working on new wings for my JR (ODO). The 2 panels are framed up. I have to cut the Maple joiners yet. Been trying to figure out how to SAFELY cut them on my table saw. I got whacked real hard in the face by a 1/4" wide blank joiner a few days ago. I had a full face shield on, so that took the brunt of the blow. Still dazed me. And NO, my hands were no were near the blade.
The wings are 2 piece plug ins like many larger planes. This is because I configuring to use multiple dihedral angles and high low attachments
I think I do have the joiner cutting issue resolved in my head. The piece kicked back and up after falling into the blade cut out the blade. Will use a sacrificial rip piece and clamp to it. I have to do repeatable angle cuts to have equal dihedra both sides.

Make an insert out of plexiglass for the table saw. Just take the insert out, trace it on a piece that is the same thickness, drop it in over the blade and with the saw running, raise the blade up until it makes a slot, you want the slot just a little longer then the blade will be at the height you will need it at. You can cut some amazingly thin strips on a 10" table saw this way. I have strips of cherry wood that are about 1/64" thick that I cut on my saw with this type of insert.

acdii I took your suggestion and did just that. Boy it sure ain't pretty but it works. Fact is, it ran through an ugly stick forrest (OK ambled through), and every ugly stick tree fell on it.
Still rethinking how to make the blasted joiners. Since I want to make 3 or 4 all with different dihedral angle is is complicate. The 2 angles of each joiner must be equal Plus same thickness in both vertical and width. Thinking of try to set up a ripping jig on the bandsaw (brand new blade) and use the crosscut miter with a jig attached to it.
In the meantime I will make the very first joiner just straight and make the end joiner socket very slightly lower to give me about 1/2 to 1" of dihedral. The show can't stop just because of this.

I did say it was ugly didn't I?
I raised the blade up thru the plixi. But forgot to remove the kerf splitter (??) off the back. So said heck and just used a jig saw for the rest.
I am only doing thin rips on the left, and that is a much better fit. I will end up making another I have more plixi. What really made a big mess was the glue I used to fasten the hold down pieces at either end. The dad blame super glue hit the plexi and ran like it had it's tail afire. But it does seem to hold the plexi. I did sand all the points to be glued to roughen the areas up.
I just chalk this up to educational experience #1
The build this is for is Kadet JR Changeling ODO
I really like Kadets. Love my SR. But I sure have had one heck of a blast with the 3 JR's I have had or built. The one I am messing with now was scratch built from saved plans.
