Hmmm.... there is a saito gk.54 or is it a .52? anyway it's been there for a while now and I have slobbered on the showcase more than a few times. maybe it's got my name on it somewhere.

Hey Miloh,
I guess you and I are the only ones that drink beer :-) I feel your pain. I have done similar stuff after a few, and being in a hurry. But, I have also made mistakes when I was sober. I have also gotten quite good with a razor saw, and cutting new parts. But, back to your problem.
I really can't tell if the box is glued/epoxied onto the firewall or not. If not, then no problem--unless the plans call for right or up/down thrust. I suspect it has both, in which case, the whole box will have to be remade. If not, sliding a deep razor saw around the three sides will free the box, and then just a little xacto around the top and it should come right off--but you probably figured that out by now. A little filing on the firewall, and your will be back almost where you started.
BTW, I still enjoy--and indulge--in drinking and building. But I have found that my beer gets pretty hot, and takes a long time to finish. After a couple, or three--depending on how warm they get in between--I put away my tools, set the plane on the kitchen table (after my wife goes to bed) and then drink away. I sometimes get tempted to pick up a tool--or glue--but, I DON'T. If that doesn't work for you, just glue your fingers to the can :-).

The stories are great and I'm getting some good information as to how to handle a beer can in one hand and an exacto in the other....but I feel I did not explain the problem clear enough for everyone to understand the situation. So hare are a couple more pictures that I think will help. the box is not glued in yet as it needs to be free to move for and aft depending on the powerplant used so the cowl can be positioned properly in relation to the spinner. if you notice the ink line on the front former you will see where the hole should be, but it is obviously upside down. so after studying this for a while I've decided to make another former just like the one in place now, then cut the existing hole up to the ink line, then put the new former in place and reinserting the box in it's proper position. This should work. Check it out and give thoughts.
Thanks, Miloh.
Thanks, Miloh.

Just my opinion. Forget making a complete doubling former, that's just more weight.
Cut the section out you've outlined, and it should be a perfect fit, discounting the width of the saw kerf, in the bottom of the opening. Glue it there with minimal doublers behind, and you're done.

The best thing I've found yet to mix epoxy in, is the bottom of an empty beer can. Pull the tab off so that it will sit level on the bench. Jim

This thing is so light I was not really worried about weight but I was thinking stringth was the most important factor being the motor is going to be pulling on this part of the plane. Now that I have looked over so many times I think Bill's suggestion will work fine. I did not get a chance to get after it this weekend but I will fix it one night this week.
Thanks to everyone. BTW two rolls of covering is not enough for this plane if anyone cares, the wing will eat up a roll by it's self.

Looking back, it is what you said, for some reason I just did not get it. this is what I did and it looks pretty good. I'm sure it will work fine. Now I'm back to waiting for a motor to finfis her up.

I just wish I had a fraction of your facility with PS Pro. I have the software and books, I'll claim I'm too busy to take the time to learn it, but the truth is I'm just too lazy to take the time.
I also have AutoCad with the same learning problem.

As some of you may know from my construction log for my GP Corsair I have been known to drink a beer. While I will not admit it in public I expect one or two of my very minor mistakes may have been the result of Miller High Life. I am currently building an A-26 and have made all my important decisions (cutting balsa) before the sun is over the yard arm.

Hey Miloh,
What's the point of the billfold in the picture? At first I thought it was a point of reference, but since we can't compare it to how fat it was before, it really doesn't help now! <trying to be funny> In the future, use the infamous beer can for reference, apparently more people are familar with that than I originally thought <still TRYING to be funny> :-). And if nothing else, we can judge your taste in beer.
Seriously, Glad you got it worked out!

That's good :-), as long as it all works out in the end! but seriously,
Are you going to put angle stock around it when you are happy with the location, and, when is it going to fly?

Yea it will be braced in all kind of ways. I'll put a ply plate below to cover the hole and square stock all the way around.

I had a habit of drinking some VO and sprite while building. Notice I said HAD- when I CA'ed my lower lip to the back of my top teeth (yes- you read it right) I decided it was time to separate the two activities. Somehow the VO made me think it was ok to open the CA with my teeth and a tiny drop landed on my lip and the rest is.....
PS- Debonder tastes like crud!!!
