I am working on a Somthin' Extra. Well, now that I have both wings built I've noticed that one of the wings has pulled out of form meaning it's not streight. I've had to sand a lot to get it to fit to the profile of the fuse and ended up adding a couple of small balsa peices on the inner stringer tomake the fit and not sand any more of the plywood stringer off. This being done, I've hat to add a 1/4" section of wood to the aileron. The leading edge of the wing doesn't seem to be pulling forward that much though. How it this screw up going to affect the handling and aerodynamics of the plane or will it?

Hi Dan. I'm assuming when you say the wing is out of form that you mean you have a slight gap where it butts up against one side of the fuse. I had a similar problem on my SE and also had to add some balsa to the inside rib to fill in the gap. (only about 1/16" tho) Once you get everything fitting nice and tight, you should laterally balance your plane to make certain it doesn't have more weight on one side than on the other. I don't believe the extra 1/4" length on the aileron will have much effect on the overall stability or aerodynamics, as long as the lateral balance isn't off. Good Luck...Len

Be sure the absolute length of the wing tube hasn't become too long to fit in the receptor tubes. If you knock out the wooden caps in the ends of the paper tubes they can be very difficult to get back into place. The next outboard shearweb will limit left/right movement of the metal tube but I don't like to have things moving around in the air. As for any gap that may be remaining between the fuse side and the wing panel, use some wing seating tape to fill it in. This will also help protect the side of the fuse. Hope this helps.
