I went with a different landing gear. I think that it will work so much better than what I had before. Not only that.....I needed more weight in the front. It was tail heavy. I see on the print for the CG location @ 30% of the wing area from the leading edge. It does not state if this is for and empty or full tank. Your thoughts?

You're supposed to balance it with an empty tank. With that main gear mounted under the fusalage you won't have to worry about any nose-over problems. Find yourself a small pilot and you'll be ready for action!

You've got it looking good! IMO the tail dragger looks better than the trike gear. Last time out I busted the tail wheel wire completely off and lost my tail wheel. I continued to take off with just the rudder and no tail wheel 2 more times. Just used the rudder for steering and it worked fine.

Not to mention a file, sanding blocks and a vacuum cleaner! It's a great plane though.

I flew a Hog for 10 years, it was my only plane I owned while in college. I finished the plane back in 1996 and her is a picture of her in 2005. Neon pink and Neon yellow monokote. I have built many planes but this is still my favorite color scheme. I fixed her up like new and it now lives a life of retirement in my hanger. I am now building a Hog Bipe for old times sake and yes, it will have the same color scheme.

one of our club members recently purchased a hog bipe and it flies great with a satio 100.sounds overpowered but I flew it as well and its great sport aerobatics.jis previous hog bipe used an os 91 and when I build mine I am installing an os surpass 91 ,but I can see how a magnum 80 would be plenty as well.it is clearly a legend plane..

Many giuys use the 91 on their Hog Bipes. Remember that a biplane has a lot of drag, you will need some decent power....especially if you plan on doing stunts.

I cant beleive that id did not give a flight report! Sorry guys! I do have a funny story. I got the plane to the field.....unpacked all my stuff and was ready for the maiden flight. Now.....please remember that this is my first large plane (six foot span), I am used to .25 size planes. That said.....I took off. I was having a ball. I did not have to do much trim adjustment all. So.....everything was awesome...I was running low on fuel and needed to come in. Now......I said that I was not used to large planes....in my mind.....I know how big the plane should be as I bring it around for my final approach, done it hundreds of times with my smaller planes. Well.....I need my head calibrated! There is a huge willow three at the end of the field, I was so far out, on my for my approach....I landed in the top of the tree!!! Man was I sick to my stomach! So...the good hearted farmer who owns the land cut down the section of the tree that had my plane. Can you beleive that he cut it down....I took out the plane and recharged the batteries and flew it again. No damage except the prop.

Now....the video. This is from like the third flight or so. Second video is of the evil cat tails that snagged me.

Actually.....the first video...... plane idling and I am walking away.....that was from a previous flight. I edited that in the beginning of of the maiden flight because it showed the plane up close. Notice that picture gets bright before I take off? The bright footage is actually the maiden flight. The landing is from a later flight.....sorry for the confusion. Also....because I broke my wooden prop.....if you notice at the beginning, there is no nose cone and I am flying with an electric prop!!!![X(] Shhhhh....dont tell on me!!!!!

That would be pure SACRILEGE ![X(] The Hog is a CLASSIC and should not be Bashed ! The addition of the Tri-cyle landing gear just broke my heart .[] Please, no more abuse!

With a tear in my eye.[]

Build a plane stock? What does that mean? I never build stock...... in my humble opinion, kits are made to be bashed.... the rest is called ARF's. The wing on the hog is so well built, it has been used on other fuses.... the Astrohog is an all around winner no matter what you do with it.....

You last 2 folks are what make this hobby great! And you're both close to being right. First off, I didn't know you could build a Hog as a trike(hahaha). It's sacrilege. Just throw that junk away and use the taildragger setup.

BUT, the first time you build a kit you have to make it look like the one on the box. This is the standard and proves you can do it! The SECOND one is where you go nuts and add all your 'improvements'. And while you're doing that you can throw the wing from the original on an old high wing float plane and have a ball.

Keep 'em flyin' guys.

IMPROVMENTS ??? On the HOG ?[X(] Augie. that would be like trying to put ARMS on the MONA LISA ! I'm starting to tear up again. LOL ! I'm happy to see you agree with the tail dragger bit.
Had a great day at the field today, successfully checking out my new Ultimate 40. Hope you guys had a good day too !

If you are talking about the GP Ultimate 40, I have to tell ya, that is the best kit for the $$ out there.... I have an OS 70 on mine with a 12X8 prop; great combo. Know you enjoyed it. Drop a pic of yours if you have a chance... I will return the favor next time I get it out to the field. Oh by the way, I did modify it abit also since it is a kit.

Sorry to say but my Ultimate 40 is the World Models ARF version. A little smaller that the GP version (42" vs 45') However, my friend had just finished the GP version an will Maiden it in the morning. As you can see he's added his "Improvements" !

Nice pics everyone--guess I'll have to build one too.

Ugo, what covering material/finish did you use on your Hog? It doesn't look like film. Very nice simple look--makes me think of an old homebuilt.

Jim, My Hog was covered in Ciconite fabric . The same stuff real Ultra-Lites are covered with. It's just a litlle heavier than silk but goes on a lot easier and is heat shrinkable. Then added four coats of clear dope, and painted with RustOleum yellow. Tried to make it look kinda like an old 1930's Pylon Racer.

I've had Hogs since the late 80's. My "new" one has a silkspan/dope finished fuse, and a Koverall/Dope wing with simulated rib stitching, and "riveted" panel lines on the fuse. Engine of choice for these has always been the OS .70 Surpass with 13-6 or 13-7 prop.

Taildragger is mandatory, and anyone seen with a nosewheel equipped HOG should be drawn and quartered on the spot.

There are thousands of model airplanes, but there's only ONE Hog. Vive L'Hog!!!!
