Looking for a Biplane

Moneymaker,
I've had the Tecate, and it DOES fly on a Thunder Tiger .46 without any problem. But it IS a temperamental little wench, and it WILL bite you if you do anything wrong at all with her, either in flying or with setup. Also, the top wing isn't fastened on all that well, and the guys are right to say she is heavy for her size.. Might I make a suggestion? Same sized , almost, ARF, called the Sun Dancer 50 Bipe ARF from Sig. Proven flying ability, good quality on the building, flies like anything and is very stable too. Kinda pretty, too. I have the Big Sun Dancer gasser ARF, what a beauty. I had plans on getting the 50 size Sun Dancer Bipe as well. However, I was recently sidetracked when GP announced the release of their Super Skybolt.....bigger, but I've always wanted one. I'll get the Sun Dancer 50 ARF next time around..

They Sound great, the Sundancer is a beauty of a plane, and I love Sig models, a lot of sanding with sig
almost like carving a plane out of a log. I'm looking for a new manufacturer for my next building product, I like to try different things out, I think I want the Carl Goldberg Super Chipmunk but its an ARF, Hanger 9's Miss America, again ARF,, Sigh
I want a Good Kit.

Looks like I'm going back to my original plan too. I'll be getting the Sun Dancer 50. My Hobby shop guy told me that the earliest I should expect the GP Super Skybolt ARF is May 31st....ISH! So, I put in a standing order with him for one, and also put in an order for a Sun Dancer 50 Bipe. I'm thinking maybe a Saito .56 four-stroke in that little sweetie... I've got to check and find out what colors it comes in. I love the Red, Yellow and Orange my gasser Sun Dancer is, but I don't really love the other color scheme that the first 50's showed up with. I'm hoping I can get the same Red, Orange and Yellow scheme.
Wait a minute, Waldo Pepper....I want to point out that I graduated from New Lebanon Central School, Class of '74, and I used to live just outside of East Nassau and fish at the falls there and swim in the Kinderhook every summer. That means I MUST know who you are if you grew up in the area!

waldopepperaxel, I admit there are some real builder's kits coming out of Sig, but even those fly great! The Sun Dancers are a whole new breed of Sig models, light, strong ARFs that are nothing short of gorgeous. I checked your page and saw you have a 4-star 40 so I know you're aware of how they fly. I also think you've probably been flying long enough that you've got a whole passel of those builder's kits under your belt. I'll admit it makes it hard not to associate them with the mere mention of the name Sig.... Hey, I don't know how small you go with your Planes, but you might want to check out the Sig's Herr Little Something Extra ARF....I have one in the Turquoise color...It's AWESOME...and small....1/2A....not a Bipe... but far from carving out a model from a log, though! Thought you might like it! Here's a link, hope it works:

Now you say you want a good KIT. You say you want to try something different. If you like giants:

I've had most of the models shown here..... they're a blast to build..but they ARE BIG... I'm back to flying smaller models because they're easier to store and transport.

EXCELLENT JIM,
Thanks for the Links, Thats exactly what I'm talking about, And you can't beat the price of those mini's either. I've been an OS 20 - 40 flyer for my whole life I'm just starting to get to the bigger motors, Not by choice just the way things seem to be working out, planes have been given to me that require Large motors and fat wallets too, which is why I liked the 40 size I could use the same motor all the time, now I'm getting a little out of hand, I bought me one of those 6 channel 6 model memory boxes, so I'm trying to fill that up now, so you need servo/ receivers and motors for all, I thought my big expense was going to be a 1.20 this year for my mig 27 and the Ultra Sport 1000, but I found out now the US is a 1.60 motor, so I can't just by the 1.20, looks like the Mig will be screaming cause I'm not buying both. well (Maybe not) Both of these planes were given to me but your paying for them one way or another, I do prefer the 40 size still though, but I'm not complaining, Planes are planes
I'm going to try and find a way to make a guy walk across the wing on the Ultimate Bipe just for fun, I think it can be done with some string and any servo with the stop gear taken out and modified, maybe glue a little channel across the wing to mount the feet in. but how can I make him juggle at the same time?
Formerly, Thats awesome Too,,, My wife couldn't have an objection with that plane, she works for the USPS, LOL, its not to much time on your hands, thats creativity at its best.

Walking the wing! Better make him as full of holes as a cheesgrater, or you'll be fighting some whole new control problems! But we CAN get him across the wing. Go and buy a servo for an R/C Sailboat sail, that's made to wind cords in both directions. You can simply pull him across the wing with it, and then back if you like, what the heck...
I'll look and see what kind of motors I still have around from my larger planes, I don't think I have much left.. If I were you I'd sell that plane and use the proceeds to buy a nice Little Something Extra ARF, and then you'll be able to set up the whole dang plane for less than that motor would have cost you by itself! I've been selling off my giants and doing the same thing, sometimes getting two minis from the proceeds from one giant.

I had a Tecate bipe as well. The plane was a marvelous flier. Yes it flew just fine inverted! I ran a MDS .48 with a pitts muffler. It was one of the best planes I had. Unfortunately it found a tree (bummer!).
