Does anyone know anything about the OS 47 LA? I've found a lot of these for sale... would this be a good fit for the 4 Star?
#77
I've got an OS46LA in my Four Star. I've never heard of a 47LA, I don't think it exists. I love my .46LA, it is super reliable, starts easy every time, and requires no fiddling to keep it running smoothly. It has a lot less power than a .46AX. I am really happy with the performance of my plane, but if you want something that will climb out of sight, you may be disappointed with a 46LA.
If you want the power of a ball bearing .46 and don't want to spend $110 on an OS46AX, you can get a SuperTigre 45 for about $65. You could maybe even get away with a SuperTigre 40, and they are only $50. I have both of these on other planes. They are heavier, noisier, and require more tweaking, but they are cheap and make lots of power. You could also look at a similar Magnum engine, which may be closer to the OS. The OS engines are great, and you do get what you pay for.

alright thanks I meant 46 haha typo... do u know if they have the same dimensions or close to the ax? I just drilled the holes in the firewall for the ax/gp 46's I had a GP 46 in the garage and test fitted it so if the la doesn't have the same dimensions the gp will fit, I Just dont know how well the engine will run its kinda old, but its got the same dimensions as an AX.. so im safe

The product descriptions at Tower Hobbies give you pretty detailed dimensions for all of these engines. It looks like the width of the 46LA is about .2" narrower than the 46AX.

Use 30 min epoxy to glue the firewall and the 1/2 tri-stock in place . As a rule of thumb , I use 30 min epoxy when ever there ia a chance of fuel coming in contact with it. You`ll want to fuel- proof the fiewall and cheeks where the engine sits .

Alright thank you.. I held off with gluing the firewall in until I got a reply.. Im gonna go do that now.. so did you jsut brush epoxy all over the cheeks too?
#88
I set the firewall and the tri stock and then spread the rest of the 30 min using a heat gun and small acid brush to spread it out. The heat gun well speed up the dry time , so make sure you setup before you start.
if you look closely at the pic, you can see where the epoxy has flowed into the seams .

Hey everyone!
Got a little bit more done
Heres the fuselage all glued and still letting it dry though
Put the stringers in place, is that how the back of the stringers are supposed to sit?
Let me know how it all looks
Picture of the wing next to my Nexstar wing also

Hey ChevyPower,
I'm working on the same kit right now and just started gathering the parts for the fuselage. As you may have found out, it is very important to read AHEAD in the instructions and not get too ahead of yourself!
I made one error so far and accidentally glued the torque rods backwards into the torque blocks. Now I have to pick up some 1/4" square stock and run a groove with the vertical mill at work. Not a huge mistake, but certainly something I could have avoided.
Have you decided on which engine or color scheme you are going to go with? Tonight I am picking up a Saito 56 from the hobby store
. I'm not 100% certain on the color scheme, but am thinking of a solid orange with a checkerboard belly and rudder. I may also add a strip of black trim in front of the canopy.
I'm having a lot of fun building in the basement workroom; nothing much else to do in this 0 degree Wisconsin cold!!!

Did anyone mention yellow or Metallic Red and White. The yellow 40 was my first kit-46 ax with 12.25x3.75 APC prop-SOOOO nice. The 60 I just finished-should fly but who knows!

Nice,
I now have the dowel set in the wing and I have the wing sitting in the fuselage PERFECT.
Im letting things dry and set into place before I do anything else.. I got the worktable and workplace
all cleaned up and tidy so when I start building again it'll be ready for me
