Hey again everyone!
got some pictures of the wing mounted to the fuselage...
Everything seems to have dried very strong
as well as everything looks very straight and true
The wing has fit into the fuselage snug and absolutely perfect

Chevy Power, I love the thread bud. You are doing a great job of building man, keep it up! I envy you lol. I have been here in Japan with the Navy for the last three years, NO room to build onboard the ship hahahahaha. I wonder if the skipper will let me fly off the flight deck lol. Anyways bud, I am sure the rest of the guys here will tell you that when you get your tail surfaces on measure the about 15 times before you glue lol. having an elevator that is off and makes your bird fly up at an angle is the worst, trust me, i have seen it done before. Best of luck and keep the thread going brother. Best of luck from the USS Kitty Hawk- Jon

Its a true honor to serve for our great country and I appreciate the tank you, it means a lot. We do have around 80+ aircraft onboard but I have the best job being an Ordnanceman lol. I truly do envy all of you guys that have a workshop and can fly every weekend lol. I started flying when i was 8 and started building when I was 10, LOVE IT! Now I'm 21 and have been out of the flying/building game for a few years except for those few times I get to fly back home on leave.
Anyways bud, build looks GREAT! Its great to see a young buck like you pick up building. I think I saw on this thread earlier one guy said there is no better feeling than taking a box of sticks and making it a fully functional flying machine. Better than the women in Australia hahahahahaha.
Keep up the great work bud. Whats your next step?? Got colors picked out yet?? Keep us all posted shipmate!

You know... It'd sure be fun... just once.. to see one of your planes attached to the catapult. Or at least sitting on deck. Maybe on top of the numbers on the bow...
The Navy probably wouldn't approve thought...[

Hi Chevypower,
I would like to confirm a question regarding the center photo you posted with the Engine mounts on the F1 assembly....for the engine mounts, is it the top mounting surface of the mounts that you line up with the thrust line?
I just posted this question and just want to be 100% correct prior to poking holes in the F1 assembly.
Thanks,
dave

Dave - -There are reference lines on the sides of your engine mounts - -these lines get lined up with your pencil lines on F1

Better put a big engine in your plane to keep up with the carrier's speed!!!!
God bless the military!

Hey CJ yes that is the thrust line... on the plans there is a guide that you can put F1 on and mark the thrust line... the prop shaft should be at that thrust line... which means (For most engines) that the top of the motor mounts (where you will bolt the engine) should also be at that thrust line.

Yup, I mentioned the orange. Thank you for your reference picture, that gives me a good idea of what the 4* would look like in that shade.
I do like the yellow as well; tough call.

Thank you and others for the thrust line answer.
Chevypower, I believe you asked me how far along my kit is. I have the wings glued together but have not worked through the steps to complete the wing.
To be exact, I dry fit all the fuselage parts up to step 35. Tonight after clearning snow, I will install the engine mounts and give the fuselage a final alignment check prior to applying the glue. Now this is getting exciting.

also the fuselage all glued and the stringers put in place....
awesome feeling, I couldn't get any CA or Epoxy today because my girlfriend was sick and you know how that goes! haha but Im going to the LHS tomorrow and picking some stuff up!
Put some pictures on here 428CJ! I don't mind

Chevypower,
To answer an older question of yours, the Nexstar was my first airplane (from Christmas 2006) and this SIG 4 star was 2007's Christmas gift. This thread is getting big and it's hard to keep up!
I picked up a pair of black colored skis that I'd like to install on the Nexstar. The only issue right now is that all the snow is very light and fluffy. I would throw the skis on right away but I'm having too much fun building the SIG.
I'll take some photos of my workroom and project this week!!!

Hey Guys,
I attached a few photos of my work room and SIG project. I recently hung my Nexstar using some chains (from a work light) and a zip-tied rag for protection. Previously that plane was eating up all my work space.
We moved into this house in August and the guy left behind two benches he build. The bench I built is the one with the computer on it.
Last night I mounted the engine mounts but will need to put the 1/4" reliefs in the mounts because the blind nuts did indeed protrude through the F1 assembly.
I also tacked the fuselage joints with thin CA. Tonight I will recheck the alignment and apply medium CA.
Dave
(hopefully the pictures are on this post!)

Thanks Chevypower! The benches that came with the house are sturdy but a bit on the cheap side. The bench to the left of the computer has a piece of plyboard on it which doesn't make a good flat surface.
I used a piece of pine on my bench; you could probably park my truck on the thing without it buckling!
I am using an old closet door for building the SIG. It's nice and flat plus I was able to push the T-pins in there with just a little bit of force.
I like the 2 stroke that is in my Nexstar but I had the itch to buy a 4 stroke. I already had to drill a relief hole in the fuselage to make room for the engine's carburetor adjustment knob.
Anyway, whether I'm playing on the computer or working on the kit, I'm in the workroom every night. I usually try to clean up at least once a week down there.
I think it's time to add a few posters or something to personalize my space a bit more...I'm still looking for a spot to park my gun vault down there.
