aswell as a nice stock replenishment of balsa and ply from balsa cabin. been looking at that irvine and the exhasust that came with it has 2 real tiny pin prik size holes near the manifold and im willing to bet thats why it run like it did. anyway just dragged a nice 3 view dawing of a spit out and iv been working hard on it the last 24 hours,

yes your right i do have the ultimate to finish, as well as the cub the edge cross with the crop duster
and then there isnt forgeting the coyote glider limbo killer and a few other bits and pieces pluss another 3 airframes that need finishing off from the deal i did with mark.
on a good note i have a flying wing up and ready for fuel just need to sort its cg out and get a field box battery. but the spit is somthing i crave for more than flying. oh yeah theres still that control line spit that needs attention and im just going to stop there as im geting further into trouble

. besides i havent built or started building the new spit. still waiting fro retracts to come so i can measure the oil tank and air tank and work out in the design where there going. but yeah i have plenty to do this winter

Here are a couple more pics. Not sure if I am going to put any decals on. I was also thinking about putting a white band on the rudder with black trim to match the fuse, but am pretty much out of energy now.

That looks real good, wish I had some more time durring the week to finish m ine off. I got home last night at 8:30 pm, I left for work at 6:30 in the morning?! I might leave ontime today though, and it's drizzling so no painting the boat tonight, might just try and get more done on the extra.

Thanks. I really like the look of the plane and am happy with the color scheme. I am working from home today, so I just sprayed a couple of coats of clearcoat on the cowl and landing gear. I had no confidence in the paint being fuel prook so I am want to protect it. I may run the engine up tonight so that I can at least make some noise and smell the great smell of glow fuel.

I hear you, but I am missing flying anything. So I have been trying to fly my Electric Pulse 25e at a nearby business park but have ripped the landing gear off several times. The gear is so weakly installed and I have not put much time into fixing it. My most recent attempt has involve using gorilla glue - we will see how that goes. I have more trouble landing that plane because it seems to glide and glide. It is also really too fast for the space I am flying in, but that is what makes it fun. Good luck finishing your Extra - I look forward to seeing the photos. I want to find a place in the house to put mine so I can at least look at it! However with kids and dogs that probably is not a wise idea.

Small kids and pets don't play well with planes, I've had my cats destroy some of my planes finishes by chewing on bit's of them, dogs can be worse, not only do they treat it like a chew toy, they can crush them without even trying too hard. So I guess if I do have kids someday or get a dog, I'll need a seperate lockable shop to hide my planes in.

I have a small hobby room (10 x 7) off my garage with a door. I am wishing it was bigger, but it is great to be able to leave things out.
This morning I got my OS46AX running. I had the mixture setting way too lean so it was cutting out - not sure what I was up to the last time I used it but it was way out of wack.
Anyway, it is running well now on Powermaster 15%.
All I have to do now is recheck the COG and then strap the battery in. Running the engine up really makes me want to go fly.
The two coats of clear coat on the cowl and landing gear worked well - the finish is much harder.
Have you made any progress?

Yeah I got no plane progress, but the boat is alot closer to being out of the way, I got the second coat done, and now I just have the bottom paint and inside coat to do. I think tomorrow will be alot easier, maybe a little time to finish the paint on the extra. I seem to be fighting battles on all fronts, between work, boats, cars, planes, the GF and friends dropping projects off, nothing seems to be letting up, but I can finish them off one by one.

I hear you. I am packing for a four day backpacking trip into the Sierras. Taking my 13 year old boy and a couple of his buddies, their dads, and a friend of mine that I went to school with back in England. None of them are very experienced so I have to make sure everyone has their gear together etc. It is a blast once we get up into the mountains but the organization is a bit of a pain. I also have to get a weeks worth of work done in three days so that I can leave on Thursday.

Yes, I grew up in Hampshire, near Winchester. Went to university in Norwich and then worked in Reading, Berkshire for a couple of years. Then, in the late eighties I got the itch to live somewhere where the sun shines more. Was going to go to Australia but came out to Sacramento instead. Just came for six months, still here 20+ years later! Miss the beer and the pubs - Theakstons Best Bitter.
I am really happy with the Extra - I like the look of it almost too much; don't want to fly it for a while.

Naaaa, don't be scared of it, you can fly the pulse 25E so the extra is just the same, just a little more refined and smoother. I've been trudging away at the boat, got the inside intergrip paint done, the outside yellow finished, and now just need to do the bottom paint and put the hardware back on it. Then it's done. I got sidetracked today and BS'ed with my landlord about submarines, he use to be a engineer for EB, but he still won't tell me what they are made of or the max depths, so I guess we'll never know.

I am balancing the Extra and am tail heavy. If I move the battery all the way forward I still need to put 1.5 oz of weight - I attached (small screws) lead weight to the engine mount - basically the furthest point forward that I could attach weight to. I need to put the battery either on top of the the tank hatch, or inside on top of the tank which is a real squeeze. So I think I am going to put it on top of the tank. I figure I will just wrap it in 1/4 foam and then run ties around it and through some holes in the tank hatch - I will add more screws to hold the tank hatch down so it does break loose from the weight of the battery. My only concern is the battery is then open to fumes/moisture from the motor. I don't think this should be an issue because I have run these type of receiver batteries in Nitro RC cars and they survived. Do you see any issues with doing this?
Once I get this done I will actually be ready to go fly! I could have rushed to get it ready to take to the field this morning, but I was too tired from working too much. I had an interesting experience with my Aresti which has a YS 63 in it - it took off and then lost power - all I could do to get it back around and land. Turned out all the fuel had come out and was in the foam around the tank - the fuel line had cracked where it goes into the tank and with the high pressure system of the YS it pushed out 11oz of fuel in a hurry. I am going to replace all the lines and probably the tank itself. Also made a mental note to regularly replace the lines.

Well I flew a successful maiden flight today. The Extra flew very well and was nicely balanced. Only needed two clicks of up elevator, everything else was in trim! The landing was ok - i cut the idle down too much so that the motor died 30 feet out but fortunately I was high enough. There were a lot of people at the field this morning, so I decided to just fly the one time. I need to get out there early next weekend and fly before others arrive so I can hear the engine and figure out landing speed. The plane is a fair bit less powerful than my Aresti which has the YS 63 in it, but then I have a lot of trouble landing that plane at times because it is fast. I have a OS 46ax with a 10x7 in the Extra - may try and 11x6 to give it a bit more climb and land slower. Also, I got the SSE kit down from the shelf tonight. If I build that and put the 46 in it then I could get a 55 for the Extra!

Did you finish your Extra? I flew mine a couple of times on Sunday before my Spektrum 6i broke - the up trim switch on the throttle just stopped working. The plane flies great - I just need to get half a dozen flights on it to get comfortable.
I bought a use JR8103 from a friend at the club which has been converted to 2.4. Tonight I started build the Sig Somethin Extra - it looks like a much simpler build.

I have a friend who has the gp 40 size cap 232 arf and he is running a ys120 with a 17-4w apc in it. He says for imac and pattern it is great but for 3d it sucks. I got to watch him fly it. Most of the flying was done at 1/3 to 1/2 throttle but he opend it up a lot too.
Personally I hate caps. I really like extras, specifically the 260. The gp 300s 60 size is ok but not great (I have one.) Somebody needs to put some 3d versions of the 300 and 260 in a 60 and 90 size on the market in kit form. Aeroworks has some very nice ones but they are arfs and they should make them available in arcs too!

O.K., so it's been a while, I tried many a times to work on it but work kept getting in the way, but,......a week ago, I twisted my ankle at home and was forced(
) to sit around and finish some stuff laying around. Well, I extended my bench to 14' long earlier before the incident so I now have a huge bench to work on, so I looked around and I almost forgot about this bird. So I plugged away at it and within 1 week all the trim was done, setup and ready to go, I even fired up the supertigre(in the basement) to here it run. So I only have to say that yes, it is done and I hope in the future that work doesn't encroach apon my time. BTW, I had 2 weeks vacation before I twisted my ankle, I found out I still had 7 days of vacation time, 1 floater holiday and 5 sick days to use up, so yes, I used 3 vacation, 1 floater holiday and 1 sick day all year. It's about time I use what's given to me, in other ways than injuring myself.
Thanks for looking.
