Hello all I just picked up a used Lanier 540 edge in excellent condition. Only one problem the canopy with hatch are missing. I called Lanier but said they don't sell the hatch seperate for the canopy. They can sell me a canopy but no hatch.[
]
Anyone have a used hatch w/canopy they want to sell from a plane that has been crashed?

Hi ALL
I am ordering the edge. I am thinking of using a SPE 65cc. The weight is 4.3Lb with muffler. The engine has 6.5 HP and useing a 21 to 23 inch prop. Should be plenty of power and should cut out the nose weight required for cg. What do you think. I am also going with lipo power.

freebird1 have you seen the last video post I posted on the thread, personnaly the DA50 with a 23x8 prop is more then enough power to handle this plane, if you need the extrem pull out speed put a 22x10 or maybe a 22x8 on there and you will notice a vast improvement.
You can even shave off weight from the plane by replacing the landing gear and the wing tube. I have personnaly never used a SPE engines, mainly working with Da's and 3W's. I have also heared good feedback from corona engines (sp?). Or maybe even consider the zdz60.

thanks shesha for your reply and info, but I hate over priced engine. OK, let me say That the SPE engines run very well when broke in. DAs are $600 with out muffler. Lets just say $700 ready. The SPE 65 are $340 with muffler. That is less than half for the DA. yes, I have seen both run, owned, and fly. Why shave this and add that and spend $$$$ for a DA. I just think For what when you can move thing and get the correct CG.. Do not take me wrong DA engines are great, and I see lots of pilots useing then, but I just think they are over priced for what you get, when you can get an engine for less than half with as much power. I personally think it will not be long till the price of DA, ZDZ, and 3w come way down. Why because there are to many lite and powerful cheap gassers out there.

Please see this post. Thanks guys!
I am looking very hard at the Lanier 87" plane as a cheaper throw around plane.
Right now I favor the Edge over the Yak just because it it looks like it comes in about 1/2 - 3/4 pounds less with the same wing area. Also, I think the Edge may be slightly more stable at lower speed at a heavier wing loading.
It will most likely be powered with a 60 to 80cc single cylinder and cheaper Digital 56X5MG servos that I have on hand.
Anyone have any input that would confirm or deny my leaning toward the Edge over the Yak?
Thanks and Happy holidays all.

What hardware is everybody using on this plane? I just purchased one at a great price but I don't like the hardware that comes with it. I could really use some sugestions if anybody has any. This is my first large scale 3-D plane, I have flown 1/4 and a 1/3 scale cubs but nothing high performance this size. The largest 3-D plane I have is the 90 Funtana. Thanks for any input.

I used DuBro large scale horns on all surfaces (10/32 bolts) and AirWild pull/pull equipment.
Tail wheel got soft very quickly and replaced with CF setup from TBM.

Is anyone using a ZDZ on this plane? If so 50 or 60? If possible could you give me details on your setup its probably in here but no time to look through it all. I could really use some help here as this is my first competition style plane to date. I have heard good things about ZDZ and was hoping to get some input on this subject... Thanks for any thoughts or ideas.

I'm running a ZDZ Super 80 on mine--was going to go with the 60 but wanted the 80 for future use in something bigger---flies so well with the Super 80 I don't think I'd replace it with anything else--auw is 19 lbs even-----only problem with this combo is you can't hardly get that big prop to slow down enough to land--at anything above a real low idle it just keeps flying

Hi all....been lurking for a while on this site, and have found it very interesting.....anyway..........I bought this plane (87" Edge) about a year ago, but havnt really worked on it yet. So instead of having it rot, i figured I should start working on finishing it.
Ive flown for some time now, but this is my first large (large for me anyway) gasser.
To get this thing in the air, I need to purchase an Engine and Servos.
Regarding the Engine, I was thinking of getting the Evolution 58GX. Can anyone comment on this choice of Engines?
Regarding Servos - Still not sure what to purchase, I will prob go with Digital, but I dont want to brake the bank. Can anyone give some recommendations for servos for each control surface?
Thanks everyone for your help.

My recommendation go with something light you want this plane to be light as possible, a DA50 will the way to go for light, also you will have to work on the servo's for the weight compensation, if you want a quick job of the plane stick a zdz80 in there and it will make your life much easier.
My advise in terms of the servo, look back on the thread most of us have pretty much concluded on the servo choices maybe not in terms of brand but oz wise we are not very far off.
Not to recap alot of the things that have been posted on the thread, I would seriously recommend that you go through the entire thread and take notes down, either way your main choice in terms of determining which setup comes down to the engine choice.
I have no personnel experience with evo's but from wat I hear they are very powerful engines. I would stick with a DA in terms of preference.
Your choice your plane your dead weight your flying ability pretty much will sum up the character of this plane, look at the video posts that bonedoc and I have posted it will give you a clear indication what a 50 sized engine can do to this plane let alone a 60 and up engine.
Also in terms of characteristics of this plane, it's very forgiving, very very if not non apparent stall speeds, and lands on the dim, it just floats and keeps on floating, you will enjoy her for sure, look at shaving weigt of in terms of setup it will reward you bigtime in the end.
Btw mine is still around, have to crank her up soon the season is nearly over here with summer kicking in.

I am looking into building this plane and powering it with a Brillelli 366GT engine(60cc). The Brillelli 366GT engine weigh's only 4lbs 2oz complete with muffler, mounts and EI. It spins a Xoar 23x8 prop at 6800RPM so it should have more than enough power for this plane. I was just wondering the engine is 6.25" wide from carb to muffler. Is there enough room in the cowl for the engine to fit with out cutting the cowl to make room for the muffler and carb?
I will be using 8 Hitec digital servo's. 4-5625 airlons, 1-5955 Rudder, 2-5646 Elevator, and 1-5625 throttle. I will also use 2-2400mah TBM lion batteries for reciever with MPI regulators and a 200mah nimh battery for EI.

I am wanting to get started with this plane, but I don't have the funds at the moment for the Brillelli 366GT I want to use. I do hower have a great running Brillelli 46GT thant spins a Xoar 22x8 at 6800RPM and all of the servo's and a good PCM JR790 reciever. The Brillelli 46GT generates 23lbs of thrust and is 6oz lighter than a DA-50 with a stock muffler. I am not a 3D flyer, but I really like to way this plane looks. Would an engine that generates 23lbs of thrust be enough on this plane to have a good day sport flying? The Brillelli 366GT would come later of course.
