nothing to do with RC or the AA...but, the Twins rule. sorry Neuro
and a high-five to the ex-minnesotan, DJ
on second thought, all minnesota teams are renowned for choking hard at the last moments, so we'll see how it goes
anyway, back to the AA, i built this one this last weekend, a Burt Rutan PondRacer. this is actually the 2nd one i built. the first one was far too small and made out of some really crappy foam. this new one is all 1/16 and 1/32 balsa with the AA Jet electronics. because of the swept forward wing design, the plane doesnt really stall in the typical way - the nose just never drops down. it also can take corners like a nascar driver, none of my past planes would bank as steep as this one during a turn, it looked like it was doing a knife edge.
i'm probably going to remove the AA electronics and put in the 3 channel BR RX so i can stick an elevator on the tail and get some loops out of it. should be quite fast too! and, i know i know, it needs some color (if i do a 2nd one, it'll get some printed tissue graphics).

here ya go suzonka, these are the plans i worked off of. i had imported them into coreldraw and retraced everything so i could scale it to the size i want. if you want a certain size just let me know, it only takes a couple minutes to resize and save as a .pdf file. there's lots of info on the pond racer, and a lot of RC models of all sizes have been built, its a really cool plane.

I also have half a dozen of these little foam bi-planes. Ive got two tx's on c and two on b so I was able to turn mine off while in air and let the wife turn hers on and she actually kept it up the entire time till it ran out. They are a lot of fun but ive noticed with 4 of them that they dip a little bit... With power off I can give it a slight hand launch and it tries to climb till it stalls... Being an engineer I was able to spot them being tail heavy straight out of the box... my fix was spliting the nose open and useing elmers glue i inserted (3) 5.5 grain bb's. Just normal .177 cal. bb's from a bb gun and they fly better that way. Although I saw the planes with the bottom wings cut off I clipped both wings back to the strut and it seemed to fly a bit better and handle the wind a little more. I was thinking the other way and adding another section of wings in the center and converting to a tri-plane for a really slow flying plane. I bet adding wing area and moving the motors out towards the wingtips more would make it fly slower and be able to turn sharper for indoor flight in a living room.. but havent tried it yet so cant attest to that.. I guess I could do that and use the bottom wings for the tri-plane and see if the mono-wing would work better.. Its all in fun so we will see but if your asking for the perfect trainer...thats most likely it.. Buddy-cord?? Yeah right, get a 30 dollar plane that requires no mant. and that is almost impossable to break, one that flies slow and is eazy to control.. thats about it right there...

hey nitrocharged...
Thats some thinking on your toes there man... Ive taken apart transmitters and done my own modifications before so i might have to look over what you got going on there on page 8. My question is do the motors always run now or stay off and them right stick turns left motor on with power off? and vice-versa... Thats smooth man, I can admire another beeing of intelligence.
A long time ago when I was 14-15 I only had am radios because fm cost a little more.. and I wanted to learn how to fly so I bought another christal on the same channel and just ran a junction wire to transfer battery power from one radio to the next.. Like a buddy box. It worked and I was proud because the normal buddy box systems have like 5 or 6 wires and I only needed two. There was also a time my freshman year in highschool when I was designing planes and flying them..after spending a few hundred bucks on a hotrod 40 size plane with a doubble tapered wing, I was unsure if I had the M.A.C figured out right and the CG right so i took a half page math problem to my pre-cal teacher, my algebra teacher and my math models teacher, with the formulas on finding the proper cg, and all the dementions of tip cord, root cord and M.A.C and how it was supposed to be figured with this and that, nose moments, tail moments and weight.. long story short all three teachers chrashed my airplane because none of them had the same answer nor the same answer as me.. To test myself i took a shot in the dark and flew it and it turned out that I needed about 20 bbs in the nose end and it flew like a dream. Anyways, I like your idea man and im gonna have to try it...

up TrU to find out what it was. After 15 minutes waiting while they searched
for what seemed like the Holy Grail (listening to piped in Britney Spears music)
they found it and told me it was the XPV made by Flywheel. $60.00 for the little
thing- not too bad until they told me the battery pack is $50.
You can find it on the TrU site- punch in XPV.

Nat, Go a couple of pages back, and you'll find winglets and an explanation of how to set up canards.
I took one of the charge umbilicals apart just now, I know I said I would do that on Friday, but I had to see if I could find my local SMD soldering guy. Anyway, it is a standard microplug with out the inner tongue or spring. So after a while the metal either bends or is worn away. Two options come to mind to solve this: 1. try and shim the connector with a little piece of foil, 2. carefully remove the outher housing(I used small flushcut nippers) then remove each wire, one at a time, massage it a little smaller and re-insert it into the original plug. The best case would be finding this connector built for mobile use. These connectors have the tongue and are designed to give a little and maintain positive contact.
For those of you who know what boscovs is, thats where I found my first plane, and last I checked they were still selling them. Decent price as well. Tim

suzonka, You can peel the lower wing out without damaging the air frame. You can hot glue the stir sticks in without damaging the air frame. Try it. I keep bipes for different reasons, including the joy of bipe flight. But you might want to try a mono mod. I prefer the mono with stir sticks. Primarily because it keeps the keel of the plane in play. On a standard mono mod the upper wing flies, and drags the rest of the plane along. With the stir sticks you can force the energy back into the airframe. your call, Tim

Talk is cheap, here are pic's of the stir stick mono mod. This plane will cruise around under low power or stunt under high power. Tim

CS, that depends on what you want to do. I find it quite enjoyable. As opposed to a traditional mono mod, it flies, and controls better. No need for canards. Tim

I will try more mods based on this mod. But I just got this one figured out. FYI, the straw is about 3.25" long and centered on the wing and in the lower wing slot. Tim

While I was doing a store check yesterday I saw something that I never seen before. It was an Air Hogs F-16 fighter the date on the back said 2005. It used a nimh in the plane and had a one stick controller. It used 2 pusher props like the AA.
Does any have any info on it, it looked cool but nimh/one stick controller is not enough for me to get it.
I got a Micro Mosquito ( $69.99 ) yesterday and must say the cool factor is high, flight factor is low. Up/down is fine and left/right is great but forward/reverse stinks. There are some mods I can do to the tx pods that improved flight. I will give it another day or two of tweaking but if can't get this thing to fly better than my picco z its going back.
