I am also curious about the Wheel Pant and the robart strut, I would also like a picture of how you guys hooked up the elevator control, I've heard not to use the supplied pushrod.
Any pictures or suggestions?

When I installed the Robart strut I took it apart to paint it, there should be no problem adapting the strut to fit inside the wheel pant....
The nose gear that come with the kit is a complete wast of time....don't even think about using it !!!
I used the wire that came with the kit for my push rod for steering the Robart strut it's fine !!!
I was just down in the hangar working on my lights...looks like I struck out with my port side (Red) wingtip running light I must of broke a wire off I can't get it to work to save my life....
Is there any other lighting systems out there for RC Planes ???

Just a little bigger...
This is the MAX size that will fit in the Robart Strut...
Bigger is always better...takes up the shock of some of those "Not so perfect landings !!!"

Hi All,
Got a couple more flights on last night, took some time to do some more flight tests:
1. Stall test (About 8 mistakes high)
Result: Nose came up slow...the plane stopped flying and she did a very gentle pitch down with a slight roll to the right...
She regained speed and with a little power was back flying...
2. Take off from rough soccer field grass
Result: She took a bit to get rolling once up to speed she lifted off the grass ok, but in an instant not quite having enough power on she rolled to the right sharply and just about scared a turd out of me...
I thought.."Oh boy here comes the cart wheel the guys with the 83" version were talking about..."
I poured on the power and she righted herself and was flying fine !
3. Take off from blacktop with the flaps down...
Result: I usually only take off at about half to two thirds throttle, with the flaps down she got up to speed and in half the length of a normal take off she jumped into the air and was flying awesome !!!
So things I learned tonight about my new bird, she likes to be flown a little fast, she likes to have a little rudder added to her turns and pulling her nose up into a stall isn't too scary as long as you have enough altitude to get her back flying again..
As for your questions about the AXI 4130/16, I went with this setup because this is a good match for a .60 size glow plane...
I plan to add floats to this plane, so the extra power will be needed for that application later...
My rule of thumb is.....you can never have too much power...it's what you do with the power that determines whether your plane flies or dies !!!
Is it too much power ??? Yes if you fly it wide open and do aerobatics with it...is that what this plane was designed for ??? NO !!!, so fly it for what it was designed for and it'll stay in one piece...
With my AXI 4130/16 with the Thunder Power 6s 5000 I'm not really sure how long I can fly, I'm setting my timer for 12 minutes now, but still have lots of juice left over...
A full charge on this battery is about 25.0 to 25.4 volts, after 12 minutes of gentle 1/4 to 1/3 throttle fly I have about 23.5 volts left on the battery...
I take off at about 1/3 to 2/3s throttle, she climbs out nice and flies quite stable and scale at about 1/4 to 1/3 throttle...
I highly recommend this setup for this plane...
All the best,
Sam

A guy in my club has this plane and cant get it to fly. It has over a pound of nose weight but it still acts tail heavy. It gets what looks likes plenty of speed he gives it a little up elevator and it tip stalls. Any suggestions.

A nose-heavy airplane will necessarily have to fly with lots of up-elevator to compensate, which makes the wing fly at a higher angle of attack, which increases the propensity to stall at higher than normal speeds.
Try moving the CG back.

Ok so mine is almost done. All I am waiting for is the windshield.
Here's a pic showing the cowl with the lights and the inverted setup. When i took the picture i had not cut the cowl for the muffler yet. those pics to come later.

Anybody had any problems with the vertical stabilizer on the fuse being off center? Mine is like that from the mfg. I'm calling Nitroplanes to see what they can do for me. If they're not willing to replace the fuse, any suggestions to straighten the stabilizer?

How much is it off and in what direction? Full scale light planes have the vert stab at a slight angle to the left, giving some right rudder effect to counter the effect of engine torque. I seriously doubt that the seller is going to do anything, but who knows? If you feel you must reset the vert fin, you will need to relieve the slot enough to allow the movement and then fill the gap and patch it.

finally got mine today.
anyone have problems with an aileron not sitting correctly?
i think they maybe drilled the hinges off-centre, one wing can't get full deflection one way because the aileron touches the wing.
the other wing is fine. i also found cracks in the fibreglass on the firewall probably when they mounted nose gear brackets.
wondering what the best way to fix this aileron will be, any suggestions?
Sam.

Yikes !!!
Those cracks are scary !!!
I noticed a bit of cracking on the inside of my firewall where the nose gear was attached, I had to make new holes to line up my new Robart strut...
I just slapped a coating of epoxy on the inside to add a little more strength just before bolting the new strut on...
As for the spinner, I went with the 2 1/4....it looks Great and quite scale...

No, found a 4" long crack in my fuse and one of the wing root ribs were slightly crushed. They guy I bought it from ordered me another one. Should be here soon.
I have asked several times how everybody has rigged their elevators and if somebody could post some pics. I have heard to not use the supplied pushrod and was looking for ideas on elevator setup. So, this is my last try...Can anybody post pics of their setup?

I am using the supplied pushrods for the elevators. I am not goind to be doing a lot of acrobatics with mine so i don't think it will matter. If i was planning on doing loops and other stressful maneuvers than i would probably go with wire in plastic tubing all the way back like what came with my gp RV-4 kit. Mine doesn't have a lot of flex on it so it should be ok for conservative flying.
I am still waiting on the windshield.

Waaaaay too risky !!!
I didn't want to chance it...I have way too much money into this plane...
Those things can back off and you could be left with no linkage to your servo...
This is what I used for a direct connection:
Dubro EZ Link :

I always stay away from EZ connectors on flight surfaces, nosewheel and throttle are okay although a nosewheel 90 deg from straight would be disaster upon touchdown.
You could say it is too EZ for the screw to vibrate out or loose!! Sorry, that was not funny

Well i pretty much have everything finished in my cessna except for the windshield (big disappointment from nitromodels).
To read about this, here's a link to the thread.

On a better note, I ran the XL .70 RFS and it ran beautiful. Very good idle and transition. Can't wait to get this thing in the air!

Well i showed the pics of the cracks in my firewall and crappy hinge holes on my wing and nitroplanes are sending me a new fuse and right wing.
VFR RC sorry to hear your're so close but getting screwed around.
The instructions and hardware are crap but still think this is a beautiful looking and good quality plane for the price. Love the shape of the fuse.

I guess it all comes down to who you know and who you talk to, to get things done. After opjose told me to contact John, I sent him a PM and he quickly responded he was going to take care of the issue. He has already sent me the tracking number for the part!
This changes my view in their customer service. They should really look at that and improve the support from the phone guys.
