Default HPI's Tuner Kit

So I ordered the Body Tuner Kit #85613 and got it this weekend.

It comes with 3 different sets of side view mirrors, an Intercooler, and a chrome Muffler
Plus the parts you need to mount it.

To mount the intercooler you have to slice up the bumper, wich I didnt want to do but did anyway.

A small HPI RACING decal to bring it out a little.

I decided to paint the couplers red for a more realistic look.

The muffler came with some questionable mounting intructions. According to the instructions you are to mount the muffler directly on to the shell with the hardware thats provided. That wasnt the best option for me because I wanted the exhaust to be functional so I had to dream something up.

After mindstorming, this is what I finally came up with.

I used a piece of sheetmetal that I cut out to attach it to the chasis

Then used a piece of sport bottle straw to connect it to the exhaust, then wrapped it with electric tape.

Since the drifter was going trough tome cool changes I thought Id paint the banged up rims for a nice tuner look. With a new set of type A drifting tires, Im ready to tear up the driveway!

I actually painted the rims with a brush. Not the best paint job, but Im satisfied with the results.

Rims and tires on, it starts to come alive

And the final result...

Have you tried with that exhaust? Does it really work without major effects?
I think that something will be effected by that.

I would imagine that exhaust setup would cause some problems with running the engine

but the work looks top notch

It makes the air travel longer and further, but I dunno what the effects of that would be.
Why does it seem like when you let off the throttle, the wheels stop spinning immediately?

I ran it yesterday and it ran fine for about 5 minutes, then the straw I used to connect the muffler melted!

It was actually running fine, no restriction problems, I had melting problems!

That tuner kit is only $12, pretty cheap if you ask me.

The wheels are way to light to gain any kind of momentum stong enough to keep them spinning, specially with all AWD. That along with the servo slightly engaging the break on its way back. If it was on the ground running it would be a different story.

the melting was what i thought of 1st! i once tried some car heater hose to replace a broken exhuast hose on my nitro sport SE, even that melted after 15 minutes. if you can find some hose that is meant for RC exhaust and bent it to work... it does look really cool tho.

Yeah, I'm sure you can find some metal tubing that can bend like that. Sorta like a thinner version of that segmented stuff they use for conduits.

you will, like i posted before, i tried car coolent hose. coolent get pretty hot, but not as hot as exhaust gasses. find some flexible metal wire cover. like youd see in a school or office building. if its not metal, or crazy rubber meant for heat AND GAS then it will melt/distort.

Yeah gases are far hotter than liquids due to latent heat.

I use large size silicone fuel tubing to extend the exhaust stinger on several of my engines, and that has never melted on me. Might be worth a shot.

or look at plumbing supplies, copper tubing bends easily, not sure on how far you need to bend it with it kinking, but worth a shot. ???

yes, but those hoses dont get as hot as you may think. sure, they are near the turbo/engine, but thats not the same as having exhaust gasses flowing through them. they will last 10-15 minutes. you need some metal.

Guys - hit up www.mcmaster.com and look at their silicone tubing

Do you have any pictures of how the hose comes off the factory muffler piece? I am confused because doesnt the exhaust dump out the side of the car?

You can pick up an exhaust hose which comes standard on a traxxas nitro-V. It is very thick and doesn't like to bend much but you might be able to get it to work. Also copper flexible tubing works too. I like to make my own custom exhausts with that and th seems to work out alright

Find some refrigerator copper line that goes to the icemaker. It is usually pretty flexible, and should be about the right size.

I bet it looks sweet with the exhaust coming out right there with the body on
