Hey all in my lack of actual work I took on a project that I have been neglecting doing a rebuild of a Hyper 7. started with a literal pile of parts, new, old, and shot out, and came up with a pretty nice build in the end! I bought the roller with NIB proline crimefighters for 70 bucks, bought the Hyper .21 turbo for 80, got all the new parts (and then some lemme know if any of you need NIP parts), an unpainted proline crowd pleazer 2 body and the green dress kit for 160, the exhaust for 45, and the new shocks for 20.
here's what 375 got me with a little work
also I have PCR lightened shock towers and a HiMoto High downforce adjustable wing and all the upper deck is carbon fiber, fully modded Hyper7 with all the race essentials!
Check out the before and after pics attached and let me know what you guys think!
it is still needing a couple of things done like I need to attach the servo horns, and adjust my suspension, caster camber, and toe, also need to get a screw for the rear brace and just small stuff prettymuch, and also install an SR3300T receiver and the sensors for my DX3S system.
I replaced just about all the delrin parts, upper and lower arms, hinge pins are now lunsford titanium, new bumper and sway barsnew fuel cell, HiTec 625 MG throttle/brake servo & 645 MG steering servo and I custom painted the body.

Wow! Very nice buggy! You cleaned it up very nicely. Looks good.
Mind giving me a link to where you got the wing? Also did you have to custom fit it? Or did it bolt right on?

the wing came with the rolling chassis as well as all the carbon fiber and the light weight PCR racing shock towers an extra chassis and mud guards. paid 70 bucks for that and a huge bag of parts as you could see from the pics. I then paid the same ebay selle 150, for like30 something bags of NIP parts including extra carbon fiber tray and brace, even though I could have just bought one new for the 375 I spent, I ended up with damn near enough parts to build a secon buggy... not quite, but close.
I figured I may as well just replace everything on it with new stuff since I had it all, anyways. the only hop up part I bough for it was the lundfors titanium pins. all in all I cannot wait to get this thing finished and the new engine broken in. ought to be fun to bash with till I can afford to get a good brushless combo for it so I can race it at one of the local tracks ( they only race electrics due to noise ordinances) I already have a novak BL converson kit so it will be soon I hope!
the wing is made by HiMoto I believe it is a 1st gen version, but I found a link to the newest version which looks like you hve to drill the holes for your buggy.

it is a ROAR legal race wing, and slick as heck!

after I get the new rear prace kingpin that goes through the rear wing and rear chassis brace and finish the little stuff I'll take it out break it in and fid somewhere to launch it and tell you how well it works. my understanding is that it helps keep the rear end planted better and gives the buggy better airial dynamics when you launch it off a jump...
regardless I definately am going to be keeping this one awhile, so I ahd to do it up right, ad hell with all the spare parts, why not!

prolly won't make it out this weekend... throttle/brake servo horn is tripped, and my HiTec 645MG servo is glitching out and may need to get sent in for repair. JSYAK. I am running a spektrum DX3S system, so I should not be having servo glitching... Good thing HiTec has a lifetime warranty! also need to get better springs on the front. the ones that came with the shocks I got are wayyyy too soft. won't lift the front up off the ground after a small drop... also going to put heavier oil in the shocks to smooth them out a bit... sucks My new 8ight-t 2.0 has the motor in under warranty, the hyper is in need of little crap, guess i'll be playing with the NTC3 this weekend

So I took it on it's first run just now since resurrecting it. Mind you I have only run the first tank through the brand new Hyper .21 Turbo engine, and it is still rich, but let me tell you all something... the power is phenominal, and I found it VERY hard not to WOT this sucker. The Hyper 7 drives like it is on rails, I only flipper over one time in the street and that is cause I was pushing a corner tooo hard and knew it... OOPS, MY BAD!!!
I now know why have always heard good things about the Hyper engines... at half throttle this thing was only begging for more, but as I am disciplined and all (well sorta) I went easy on it, and will continue to do so through the next 4-5 tanks. I also have a bit of fine tuning to do as far as camber and toe go, as I have noticed that on my left front tire the inside tread has been completely worn off (crimefighters + asphalt = baldness quick) which is ok, as these were the beat old tires that came qith it originally, so I figure WTH let em get chewed up , at least I have a baseline for knowing just how far off things are, so time to get out my digital micrometer calipers, camber, and ride height gauge and tune my suspension up...
anyone out there have any suggestions for the best baseline settings for ride height, camber, droop, etc. I want to get this dialed in for track practice sunday, and since I am new to the hyper 7 anyones input would be appreciated!!!

HA HA, well it is getting another makeover after the throttle servo got into the spur gear and it ran head on into a curb
going to put a brand new chassis on it, and just upgraded to the 16mm hyper 9 shocks.

Hi there,
I am not sure, but I don't think the Hyper 9 comes with 16mm Shocks. I only say this because a guy at my local track has this buggy and it came with the smaller shocks and he replaced them with the MBX-6 shocks.

yeah these are the upgrade shocks, makes a huge difference over the 12mm shocks I had on it. I got em on ebay and that is what the seller had them listed as. the stockers are ok, but don't support the weight of the buggy as well.
regardless, being this is my race buggy, and I already have everything else upgraded after the curb incident, I figured I may as well get some big bores to help stabilize the handling a little better. I alos have a EB Mods OS .21 VZB V-Spec that I may be putting into it, unless I end up putting it in my 8ight-t. either way by the time I am done with it, it will be a cherry ride for sure and has come a LONG way from the 80.00 pile of parts it started as [8D]

Question brother.......did you mean to spend as much on this as you have or are you still in the "black" with this project (what is the total amount to date you've spent on it???) and is the finished project keeping up (yet) with all the other guys on the track? (Sorry, don't know if you've taken this project to the track yet)
Just curious bro.
Good luck man.

LOL not even been to the track yet... hit the curb during break in, as far as overall cost I am up to about 380 total on it, and have basically replaced everything, and have around 300.00 in spare parts as well that I got in my spent range. so IMO I am still very much in the green on this project considering it would cost me 300 for a new TQ black without any hop ups, and this has just about every hop up you can get and also some of the bling (purple aluminumm washers etc.)
With the rides I decide to keep for myself though I spare no expense. I love tinkering modding and building up for performance. unfortunately when I go to the track with my nitros it is only for fun, since the only local track only races electrics due to noise ordinances. there is supposed to be a new track opening up soon a bit south of me but the owner had closed it to the public cuz no one wanted to help maintain it. I have been trying to get some of my buddies to pitch in and help out in exchange for potential free track usage. it is in the planning stages, but it would be nice to at least get a local nitro club going. what is super huge right now in my area is rock crawling, and BL racing. they only nitro racing is generally touring cars with .15 or smaller engines, mine has a .18 so I cannot race, just practice.
regardless, this is about my hyper 7 and I am not going to Hijack my own thread to talk about all this other stuff forever. I still have a bit of tuning to do with my brake linkages, and may even need to replace them, and general tuning in other areas, I have my camber set to 2 deg front and rear for now, ride height is set at 19mm forget where I have the droop set, but have it set. total weight I have shaved down to about 9 1/4 pounds. just need to repair my servo, and get it back together. at this point, I also need to check my diffs for damage too, so...
All in all I have spent the majority of my time with this buggy working on it, and only ran it 4 times right now in the street doing RPM rolls, and heat cycling the motor etc. all the repairs were expected(well not the ones as a result of the curb) and I know this one was going to be a major undertaking, but I am sure the end result will be well worth the troubles.

well just finished ther repairs, tomorrow will bw the moment of truth, was extra careful during the reassembly and found I had the wrong flywheel, had a single disk brake flywheel, but found a dual brake flywheel which has a slightly deeper offset so as not to rub against the brake pad shims. Also have upgraded to the larger bore shocks and had to replace my carbonfiber servo tray since the old one cracked on me during the wreck... Going to the park by my house so I have plenty of open space to jam and no curbs to run into
the upside is that I have 4 tanks+ through it, and can start tuning the engine for better performance while running tomorrow. all this time and effort I am sure will be worth it, just can't wait to get it to the track and practice see what kind of lap time I can pull with it.

well it lives, and is badder than ever, got some really good run time in with it today, very impressive with how well it handled in a large open field with dirt and grass, did have one issue though the rear shock tower and wing mount just screw into the rear diff case on this buggy, and at one point I flipped, and noticed the wing was sticking up a little too high, so I shut it off and found that the screws that hold the brace and shock tower to the dif case had either become stripped, or vibrated out. regardless it looks like I can just drill the mount holes completely through and use some lock nuts to secure it better and prevent this from happening again. I'll post pics of the mod after wards and let you all know how it goes... and JSYAK the mount ing spots are to arms the stick up from the top of the diff case and are won't cause any sort of access to the actual diff by being drilled... looks like a design flaw IMO... easy fix though...

ok here's a pic of what I did to fix the issue hopefully permanently... just srilled holes completely through the uprights, and use nylock nuts to secure the bolts. used 6-32 x 1" for the bottom and some spare small block exhaust screws with engine mount nuts for the wing brace up top, came out really well, now just need to see how well it holds up
if it works out I may just do the same thing for the front shock tower to add some strength since it just screws into the uprights on the diff case in the same manner. seems like these are higher stress areas which create an unecessary point of failure. easy fix though...

anyone out there have any suggestions for the best baseline settings for ride height, camber, droop, etc. I want to get this dialed in for track practice sunday, and since I am new to the hyper 7 anyones input would be appreciated!!!

5/5/5 diffs, 45wt f/r, -2 camber f/r, laydown shocks in front, upright in back, -3 toe out in rear and 0 in front. should be a good start and not much to change from there. good luck.
