Default Yet another choke question!!!

I'm finding it impossible to choke the mvvs26 engine with a cowl on. I've tried all sorts of pushrod devices, but none of them seem able to effectively choke the engine. (The very best method is tying a 5lb box of nails to the choke arm!!!)
I read in the huge thread regarding the mvvs26 where a chap had put a velocity stack on and all his prayers were answered!
Is this method merely a case of fitting the stack over the choke? Do I have to remove the internal choke assembly?
Can I then block the velocity stack with a rubber bung or similar whilst flipping the engine to catch initially?
What of the situation in flight? With the stack now more open than the choke area, sitting proud in the propwash, does this create an issue of leaning the engine in flight?
The engine is mounted inverted on a taylorcraft.
Appreciate your responses.
Happy new year.

Euclid,

I am afraid you will have to devise a way to operate this choke, using a steel, or a Kevlar cable and maybe a cable roller.
There is no other way to do it easily.

It will have to be incorporated into the model you are flying, so it will be safely operable from behind the engine.

If your engine can be started on a cold day, without using the choke, then you may be able to get along without building such a contraption.

Default RE: Yet another choke question!!!

If I may interject. I have a MVVS 1.60 mounted inverted in a cowl. I attached a 4/40 wire to the choke control and let it hang out the bottom a bit. When I want to choke I stand BEHIND the prop push the rod up ( choke closed ) with my left hand and flip the prop with my right hand. It's a bit awkward but works very well - chokes it everytime. I wish I had a pic but my plane is 3000 miles away from me right now.

P.S. Attach the rod to the choke arm with a ball link so it moves freely and put a piece of fuel tubing over the rod so it doesn't cause any interference should it rub against any metal.

its ok to put a velocity stack on the carb. if the stack clears the cowl its perfectly ok to plug and flip engine
