I don't think DF-02 would be weird / odd enough to be collectible, though... they would just be replaced w/ DF-03, -04, etc.
But you never know!!

The durga is just too plasticy to buy and it doesnt come with universal's either...[&o]
But the 501x does plus more bling, bling..lol
RE: THE LOUNGE 2
I could be wrong, of course, but my view is that none of the TRF cars / race buggies will be collectibles.. because nobody wants a TRF 414 when there's a 415.. (i.e., its only job is to go fast and win race, so you want the latest one!) compare to say a Wild Willy... where you buy it for the unique characters..
Not that I am in the hobby to worry about collectibility, but that's my view.. I love TRF cars.. as it is the cutting edge performance.. but 20 yrs later, people won't be like, "do you remember that TRF 414? Oh man, don't I wish I have one of those", because people would prefer the 415 over it, and 416 (which is out now!) over the 415, etc.
Of course, unless there's some significance like if the TRF418 made some revolutionary new improvement or something..
I guess my point is, there's only one Wild Willy, Wild One, FAV, etc. but there's plenty of substitute for the TRF415, there's the X-Ray T2 2007 (ah, hmm, 2008 version is out, scratch out that 2007, it is old news now, joke), the Mi3, the Cyclone S, etc.
Just saw the Pajero went for $500+ at eBay.. (XC/CC chassis) Maybe the T-Egg will be worth some $$$ down the road.. maybe.. because it is a pretty odd chassis.. And other companies don't have similar stuff...

Give it 2 or 3 more years. I bet it does because it has the side battery design. But the Durga does too.

Take today's TA-05 and a F103GT. Add 10 years and I bet the F103GT will have a much better value, especially if you have a finished body, by then there will be a TA-09 (what LB was saying).

RE: THE LOUNGE 2
Here's my view on collectability in RC (not that anyone is asking):
If you're collecting RCs as part of your hobby, enjoy shelf queens, and want to hold onto them to sell down the road for some $$, that's fine. It's what you enjoy, it's a hobby - it's fun.
But...if you collect RCs solely for the purpose of stashing them to make $$ as a sort of savings plan, to me that's a waste. You're better off taking the $$ and investing it - over time as interest compounds, you'll be much better off.
Sure, there's the off chance that you keep an RC that becomes a rare collector's item and you get a lot of $$ - but that's pretty rare.

RE: THE LOUNGE 2
I think the rule of thumb is with like a 7% return rate (which is nice, but not unreasonable), your money doubles every 7 years if you hit 7% every year. You will have up and down years in investing of course, but you get the idea.
In terms of retirement planning (wow, I'm way off RC topic here), that's a powerful message about investing as early as you can in life!

RE: THE LOUNGE 2
My Dyna Storm was cutting edge when it came out. And now it's a collectable. But I think this is not a good example to judge by. Although the Dyna storm still has some of the best shocks ever made even by todays standards.
I think when My TRF 501X is replaced with the next great thing it will be just another buggy with no re-sale value.

Hee hee, not trying to be a smart *****, but if you get 7%, it takes about 10 yrs to double your $$$...
But yeah, know what you are talking about!! Invest early, max out your 401K!! Hee hee...

RE: THE LOUNGE 2
Yeah, Dyna Storm certainly has its carrying power..
I saw one that went for $200 at eBay today.. not NIB, just a decent example..
Tamiya actually re-re the Dyna a few years back.. many examples we see on eBay are not the original, but the re-re, actually....

Nah, dude, was just playing... it is not a bad assumption.. if the $$$ is in your tax deferred account... so you are not really getting taxed until you take them out.. so... not a bad assumption..
