RE: Congratulations on your test flights!
I just put my pbf together tonight. Was sitting around bored with no projects and remember i had bought the corroplast from a friend a few months ago in for the purpose. Mine is 24"x24", but i have 7" ailerons, and a 9.75" elevator in the middle of the ailerons. hopefully i can get it out tomorow and see how it works with this setup. the cg is at 5". should i move it back a little? i'm running an evolution .40 on it with a bunch of old parts (servo's and receiver) i had laying around. it's been too windy lately to fly my 3d planes so hopefully this will keep my time occupied until the winds die down(in spring).

Wow, this is the thread that won't die! Just catching up with what's been going on makes me want to get mine out again. It's been a long time since I felt that PBF feeling.

RE: Congratulations on your test flights!
what is the best thing to use to glue the wood to the coro?
I had to repair my Pizza box Delta wing (Went through 2 trees before stopping)
and the Wood Spine came loose.

Dave,
I love the PBF! Started out with a saito 30 and moved to an os 32sx. The disease is spreading like crazy in my club. Well, I kinda cut out 6 entire kits with spines and distributed them to my fellow club members.

RE: RE: Congratulations on your test flights!
Something I wondered about contructing one of these. When you screw the coro to the spine, do you crush the coro running the screw down tight or just tighten it to where it starts to crush it? I have a couple splines ready to go and three sheets of coro. I just have to find time to screw one together. I haven't been in any real hurry as I prefer flying in warm weather and this snow won't go away!
Thanks,,,basmntdweller

RE: To crush or not to crush...
I would go just short of crushing.
The coro is very forgiving. I was amazed the first time I ran the plastic 1/4-20 bolts down through the flutes or holes in the coroplast. I thought it was gonna burst! Didn't.
Just bring it down to a slight dimple. Works for me.

Holy Cow! The PBF thread is still alive and kicking! After nearly two years of flying PBFs, I've got to admit that I still get a thrill from wringing out my PBFs that none of my other planes have been able to totally replace.
I highly recommend using #6 x 1/2" wood screws (tapered head) to attach the coroplast to the spine. First drill a 7/64" pilot hole, then tighten the screw until the head is flush with the top surface of the coroplast. Despite the flimsy appearance, the screws won't pull through the coroplast, even after a hard crash.
Rich Stech,
Here's the direct URL to my PBF web page with the plans and information, plus links to several PBF threads:

Yeah, I was waiting for someone to bump this thread up to post my lite PBF here. Anyway, no one did at that time so here is that thread.

I can't wait to fly the lite PBF, but I'm waiting til warmer weather. I'm still beating the tar out of my old 40 FP powered one. Wish I had a video camera the other day - I was out doin' the 9 with my PBF when the wind started to blow me backwards. The result was a taltouching backing up bounce!!!!! Looked like the PBF was a pogo stick! Then after the 5th bounce or so I doinked it! All in a great day of Pizza Box Flying[8D]

RE: RE: Congratulations on your test flights!
I finished one up about 7months ago. It is by far the funnest plane I own...not to mention the cheapest. I took the plans/intructs from Dave's website and printed them out, obtained the materials through a few sources(for nothing), and gathered the hardware(had everything left from previous crashes. The only thing I had to purchase was the pushrods, and that was just so I'd have something solid and secure to contol it.
I powered mine with a tired FP40, and with that thing out in the open air, and on such a light plane(if that's what you call a PBF), it really came to life. I found I could take it down to the local high-school after work and get in several flights in the middle of the week, even in the winter when its dark early.
Rock On with the PBF's guys.....what a kick in the pants they are. My girlfriend thought I was nuts, and said it'll never fly.........got news though...........the more wind the better they are...thats for sure..

RE: RE: Congratulations on your test flights!
just made my first pizza box, pink foam with a geared 300. 17 x 17 inches. really fun little handfull. I started out with a 180 geared and it flew but could just barely hover, I burned that motor up in 2 flights, I guess it couldn't take 8 cells. goes straight up with the 300 and a 10x6 prop. it's nearly indestructable just like the plastic ones and not near as prone to break a prop.

RE: RE: Congratulations on your test flights!
This is me with my small 20x20 inches PBF. 3 standard graupner servos and magnum .15. Wieght about 20 ounces. Overall perforamce-great. I had some problems with flying it at first- it just wasn't stiff enough, now I can hover and harrier.
I am just waiting for the new season- there will be 2 or 3 more PBF's at the field.
From my experience this model has just one, but very big disadvantage- it is really a prop killer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not sure what size of PBF for cox .049 or small motor. Try smaller one to check the weight. 12 oz. or something like that.

RE: Build your own PBF (Pizza Box Flyer, Flying Pizza Box)
my geared 400 powered pizza flew very well at 17 by 17 inches made of pink fan fold foam. elevons where 2.5 inches wide (included in the 17) and it also has rudder (it needs rudder in hover) I would think normal pizza construction would be too heavy for .049 or electric, the foam pizza weighs about 12 ounces and can climb out of hover on 8 cells with geared speed 400 with gws 10 by 6 prop. hope this helps.
