Default RE: OMP Hybrid "My Build"

one extra upper bulkhead half way between rudder and rear of hatch for extra strength

Good piont as this seems to be the spot where you want to pick the plane up.

If OMP is secretly designing an arf version of this plane. I wonder what the time frame would be. I don't know how long I can stare at this ZDZ60 sitting on a shelf. LOL

Keep it under 18lbs. Anything over that and some of us would just buy a 2.3 composite.

Looking at the thread count, It looks like there are/were alot of people watching this thread. I bet the interest for an ARF is quite high.

Covering. I really wouldn't care what kind of covering was used. Just make a nice scheme. I don't care for the newest scheme on the GS540 Arf. Or the scheme of the Original prototype. I believe it was white and Maroonish??

I am definately getting antsy. I am ready to buy a plane. Don't know how long I could hold out. Knowing for sure weather there was plans for an arf would sure make it easier to sit back and wait.

Great! ! I will put one servo in each wing in the center of the Aileron. A new Hitec TG servo with 300+ oz. torque!!! As long as Mike feels it will work out!

No not yet. I have the fuse built but havn't installed the firewall yet. Working on the wing thanks for the idea on the single servo in the wing. I am thinking a DA50 depends if the 75 will be available I also am on the waiting list for a Revolution from Bisson I would like to have it ready to fly by April.

Has anyone ever cut circular lightening holes in Aluminum landing gear? Wondering if it is possible without sacrificing strength.

I have seen it done on smaller planes. This LG is super strong. No doubt you could drill some holes in it. Just dont go crazy. Maybe somebody with a little experience can tell you where to and not to drill.

Quicksand,

One Hitec TG monster would be more than enough servo for the aileron. Matter of fact at 300 in oz of torque you'll have enough extra power to run a cd player in that bad boy!

Don't drill holes in the aluminum gear, you will weaken it significantly. There's a reason you don't see this on the flight line guys.

No plans for ARFing at this time as we have too many other projects going on. However we do have several professional builders that occasionally want work. Shipping is always a problem but anything can be worked out. Other options are professional builders in your area if you know somebody. Building costs are usually around the same as the kit cost for giant scale planes but ask around.

Tlg1. No, not yet. I am considering the composite arf 2.6 yak. I am also considering having a local builder build me a hybrid. Dunno. I got the ****s of kit building right now. LOL I wonder what products OMP will be introducing in Toledo this year.

Yes, one aileron servo would work fine given the new beasts that are out there now. My figures say you need about 200 in oz per aileron. there are several servos out there now that fit that bill. Would be an easy mod to the wing also as the servo bays can be assembled really between any two ribs.

Like this....Using 1 8611 servo...

The fuse went in a trash bag and the wings are still in the basement. The wings were not damaged. Twisted but not damaged.LOL

Hey Crash90, here is one I framed up in 10 days. It could be yours for the right price! This airplane is pretty easy to build, and the interlocking system on the wing I don't see how you could build it twisted??? this will be put aside for a while though until I get an engine for it, and after I finish the OMp ultimate I just got in the mail.

Capthis. Try building those wings on a twisted table.

Mike,
I was looking at the 80 inch or even the Hybrid. Will OMP be at the Dayton show this weekend and will you have these two kits? Perhaps you can bring one for me!

Look at the pics and see what mods I made for the single servo on the wings. I ran 1/16" vert. webbing as shown in the pics cross ways on the Ailerons.

Yes Kregg we will be at the Dayton show, it's always a pretty good show. Matter of fact bring your electrics because we'll be flying indoors afterwards. So I've got you down for one 80" ARF and one Hybrid.

Samon or anyone have any pics of the inside hatch geometry for servo and tank set ups? Also what size servo arm for the pull pull servo?

I want another one myself! I miss my awesome flamejob Hybrid...it died way too young. Lesson learned though and that's always run two batteries and switches on any plane big enough to fit them into! One bad switch and by-by plane. Since I don't have my Hybrid anymore I can't take pictures. The new one we have for Toledo doesn't have the guts in it yet but basically the rudder servo is mounted pretty much center in the hatch behind the wing tube. Use a servo arm as wide as you can get in there and run the pull pull wires back standard installation for pull pull. Tank can be in front or above the wing tube. I did mount mine right on top of the wing tube on a platform I built inside. This was because I built the tunnel for the tuned pipe through the bottom of the fuse.

Yes, there are at least two Hybrids with a G62 in the nose. One guy (pics on our website) has a G62 with a smoke system installed. Servos I think were discussed early in the threads but around 200 total per aileron, 150-180 per elevator, and I used one Hitec 805 (343) for the rudder. My friend has the Futaba big digital for his rudder and I think it's around 250 in oz and it's plenty!

Default RE: OMP Hybrid "My Build"

a g-62 would be a great motor in one of these planes look at some of my earlier posts
i have a mvvs 58 in mine and it is tail heavy with the g-62 you would not have this issue
also the plane flys great at 1/4 to 1/2 throttle with my motor . the g-62 would need 1/2 throttle
at full power i think you could clime out of site
