wow that was just the thing i needed, i would really like to get into pylon racing, i more wanted the build thread to see what hardware people are ussing and such.
Wile you are here can you tell me a little. Is it true the engine has to be 100$ or less? for the first class(beginners) what ever they call it? And it needs a stock pipe? Ive been told to just get a TT .40? am i correct?
Thanks
Alex

Alex,
The racing class u r interested in is called 424 or APRA...the engine that we all use and the engine that is most used is the Thunder Tiger PRO .40...i have had good luck with these engines...they cost about 80 bux or so depending on where u buy it at...the muffler must me stock...i can help u with the engine..the airfram must be all wood, no composite in the 424 class..
I have been into pylon for a little under a year now, and let me tell u it has eben the greatest thing in RC Flying i have ever done. I have met alot of great people and had alot of great times...There are plenty of people who will help u with anything possible..It would be great if u would come out to the December club race and check it out so u can get the bug planted in u...I just started to fly the 428 and Q-40 racing classes...really fast airplanes and i couldnt of done it without the help of Tony Pacini and Fellow racers of Speedworld...if u check out Torque Roll.com there are alot of us in the Arizona area that get together and talk about racing.
Let me know if u would like to know anymore about this...feel free to give me an E-Mail at [email protected] and i will answer any more questions...i dont check this forum very much so e-mail is the best way to get ahold of me.
Check out http://speedworldrcf.com/day_at_fiel...club_race.html there r some pics there...im the one holding the T-Tail..

Yes Alex under 424 APRA rules the TT .40Pro is the engine of choice, not the GP. the mandatory propellor is APC 9X6. APRA which stands for Arizona Pylon Racing Association are the rules used in california, Arizona and I beleve Oregon. This is the appropriate beginer class for pylon. These rules are only slightly modified from the AMA 424 rules one item of which APRA provides a racing handicap for new flyers so the can be competitive with oldtimers. There are other minor differances but nothing of much import such as the engine claiming rule which I think still exists although I,ve never seen it acturally done. I would be delighted to sell my old eighty dollar TT's for a hundred.
You are lucky in that you are near one of the hotbeds of pylon activity in the country. Do make every effort to attend the December club race at Speedworld. These races exist primarily just to help new folks get started and there is one almost every month.

Thats really too heavy. A couple decent batteries worth looking at are standard 270 or 350 mah NICD's.
If you comfortable with NIMH's you can go with 500 mah or 720 mah batteries.
Just make sure you charge/discharge them a couple times and know where they are at, and what they are capable of. These batteries are under 2 oz, and really where you need to be to get to a decent weight.

I've bought 720 mah NIMH batteries cheaply at www.radicalrc.com and the ones I prefer are 500 mah NIMH's from www.flyfastcomposites.com

well i finished my viper, it turned out good. ill post pictures in the morning.
I plan to maden it tomarro afternoon but i can t seem to figure out how to do V tail on my radio. I have a JR 8103. I tryed doing it threw two mixxes,
Elev--Rudder
rudder--elev
Now when i move the right stick back both surfaces move up... got that
But i cant figure out how to make rudder work, when i move the left stick to the side they both either move up, or they move down...
Maby i am doing this wrong... i cant seem to get one servo reversed on the rudder comand.
Anyways, dose anyone have advise on taking off tomarrro? should i just have a friend take it out on the runway, then just gun it? or should he hold onto it untill im at full power?
Landing should be fun, i just hope i dont have to walk to the end of the runway to retreve it
Thanks for all your help

tripxrcer,
I'm pretty sure that with the 8103 you have to use sailplane mode and then select the V-tail option. It should be in the manual. Sailplane mode was how it was done with the 347, 388, and 783.
Give that a try.
Good luck tomorrow!

Thanks guys, well i just got back from the field... WOW
It was a windy day here, like 10-20 mph winds... most wind ive ever flown in but the viper did well. The damn wheels fell off durring the second flight. So i landed in the dirt really soft and didnt hurt anything. It surtanly dosne fly like my KAOS (wich is my first and only plane) But i like it alot.
