OK, here we go again! Our Lehigh University team posted a few weeks ago about ideas for new RC products tailored to your needs. We used all the input you provided us in the survey, (see this thread for the discussion), and created a product concept for a flight data system. This would be a small electronic board, or group of boards, which would fit inside a plane and would be full of all kinds of sensors the user would want, such as GPS, accelerometers, compass, temp gauges, etc... You could view the data in real time as you piloted the plane or save it for viewing later on. The system would also serve as a way to locate a lost plane if it ever disappeared out of sight. Obviously, there are many more applications for such a product. Our team is also looking into having the option for people to custom order these flight data systems, with only the components and sensors that the individual user wanted included.
We created another quick survey to gauge your interest in this type of product which our team may pursue to create in the near future. Feel free to also post here and share your thoughts.

Only people I have ever seen using any flight data are a couple of giant scale 3-D pilots. It really isn't used except after a crash or if there is some glitching they noticed. The bad thing was after a crash the battery must be left on to get the data. The one time I was helping to pick up the pieces the batteries started smoking and had to be turned off before the readings were taken. A memory storage when power is disconnected may be a good thing but I see very little use for any data system for normal sport pilot use, giant scale a little.

The funny thing is, the equipment is so incredibly over the top hi-tech now...sometimes I enjoy just doing some old school slotcars..
Now where were those new toys I bought from SKYNET .....

Hi, I remember that thread.
The trouble is you are a little late with two major players already with product on the selves. That can be a problem with the relitively small market within the modeling community you have targeted.
Those two are Eagle Tree Systems and Hitecs Full Telemetry when pared with the Aurora Tx system.
I have the Hitec system up and running fully now, just do not need all the temps. This includes GPS position coordinates, ground speed, altitude, two different types of RPM sensor, four temperature sensors, fuel tank level and on board battery levels.
My chief use is for some cross country work and the main desired sensors for that are the fuel level, ground speed, battery voltage and altitude readouts for this.
Also Spectrum or JR I beleve are very close to releasing if not already their telemetry products.
This is the test bed for my set up which will soon be transfered to the new cross country ship. Dang I hope they release their voice prompts with sexy lady soon.
You mentioned something though I would love to have to experiment with in some of my Pylon racers and that is an accelerometer sensor. I would love a real time info on G loads at the pole.

A product we really need is a universal 2.4 receiver. It would be a gold mine for the BNF manufacturers and we end users would buy it if it were cheaper than our regular branded ones. A universal transmitter would be even cooler, but I'm guessing that would get complicated.

It would free us up to buy exactly the equipment we want as new stuff comes out too. 2 or 3 different brands of transmitters used to work with the same receivers. I figure it's only a matter time until they do again. It can't be that hard to program a receiver to decipher the coding of multiple brands of transmitter.

ok..heres a joke product but it would be kinda cool, a special electronic device you could install in a few airplanes. The idea would be that one was set as the LEADER, and the other two would be in WINGMAN mode..when the product was enabled ..they would all fly in a V, or a staggered line precisely..just like in the fullscale warbirds
up close and tight without bumping (of course)
What do you think?

that really sounds like a good idea i know ive seen videos of "drones" using this same technology of mimmicking on youtube
and also ive seen videos of people that connect planes on some kind of diamond patteren plastic frames just so they can fly there jets in a formation lol

something i was really curious of people love apps and new gadgets i was wondering is there or could there be a POV/FPV system that connects the driver to a wireless camera/monitor so you can drive your vehicle from a first person perspective or could even sale custom rc controllers with monitor/smart phone mounts of course this is everyones true want is a wireless car they can drive from a monitor (just like home alone 2 lol) via wireless camera ive seen prototypes on youtube I just really think it would be a really good idea it would work universal on helicopter planes boats quadrocopters cars trucks might even take racing and this hobby to a whole new level! im going to build one from a diy i saw on youtube hopefully ill be able to get it uploaded on here in the future
just signed up to post this but ill be hanging around seeing how im 26 and my sons 5 and im getting him into RC's
