Scale

I told you I use an EOS Sentry I bought from Heli Pro's.
If I discharge to 20% of an 1800 mah pack that mathematically figuires to be 360 mahs. I when I use my "worthless charger". I use a timer to keep track of the mahs going back into the pack at a mah setting on the charger. Example, set charger at .5 mah or 500 mah. That means in one hour the charger will charge 500 mahs. I keep track of the minutes until the charger peaks and that tells me how many mahs I put back into the pack.
Sounds complicated, but it isn't. Just use the math from school.

I want to see it for sure.

So all you are figuring is 20% of what the pack is supposed to be based on it's Voltage,, you still have no way of knowing what the packs true capacity is. That X% it's showing is only based on a formula of the range of voltage for said pack. That's why the percentage will change when you switch chemistry settings. At best it's a guesstimation, both my chargers have a similar feature and they are never display the same %.

You will only know the true capacity if you cycle the pack.

and you miss quoted me,, I said "It's useless for evaluation of a packs condition",, not worthless

good luck, Scale out

Interesting.

Are you still using it? I've seen several people still using their LiPo packs after swelling.

If you discard your swollen LiFe pack, how did you?

I've read, to place (End Of Life) LiPo's in salt water over night. They then are neutralized and ready for disposal.

What to do with LiFe batteries?

No, iput *** in saltwater for a whileand then threw it away.

How DO you know that??..

Left it plugged in on my ignition module in a 100cc gasser overnight, because i didn't know it still drained like .2 of an amp when thew switch was in the off position

My charger won't tell me the condition of my packs. However, by doing the math and discharging to 20% will. It's not brain surgery!!!
So when my EOS Sentry tells me 90% and is reading 6.6 volts, 40% and is reading 6.6 volts, it's the volts giving the percentage reading? Humm.

Good luck......

LiFe batteries have a VERY flat discharge curve and it is not typically possible to read their percentage of discharge via your standard voltmeter reading like can be done on a good NiMH or NiCad... I wonder if this EOS Sentry reads the voltage down to the 1/1000th or 1/10000th of a volt  where the discharge could semi-accurately be read..

You would need something along the lines of a Keithley Instruments nano voltmeter to get good readings.
At that point you have to be taking measurements in a controlled environment lab to get any good solid data.

The only way I know of to keep tabs on a packs condition is how fast it drop off with a give load.
As the pack gets older the curve becomes more of a slope, much along the lines of a laptop battery...
