Default Hobby Warehouse

Has anyone ordered anything from these guys? If you did any problems? I'm thinking of ordering an engine from them but before I do I'd like some feed back.

If it is the Hobby Warehouse in Richfield MN, BUYER BEWARE! They have an unsatisfactory record with the better business bureau. They will sell you anything, but if you need to make a return for any reason look out, a whopping restocking fee will be deducted from your return. For example: Say you purchase a $500.00 item, take it home and find out it will not do what you were told it could do. Now you return to the store with the item and try to return it. Even if it has never been out of the package a $50.00 restocking fee is charged to you. When companies charge a restocking fee you know they are hurting for cash and will stoop very low to get it. You are far better off using mail order. Why? For starters No Sales Tax. And a number of mail order companies offer free shipping. Thats a 32.50 savings right there. No fees charged for returns if needed.

Good luck dealing with this outfit.

I have returned stuff there before(MN Hobby Warehouse) and had many, many dealings with them on returns, exchanges and have even sold some stuff to them. Never a problem in 5 years and have spent over 8 thousand dollars with them.
I think this thread was in responce to another store. Many exist with the name Hobby Warehouse. Besides, the MN store is under a different name now.

Their is only one Hobby Warehouse in Richfield, MN. That Hobby Warehouse has an UNSATISFACTORY rating from the Minnesota Better Businee Bureau. The store is now under new ownership and is renamed Sky Hobby. Try to make a return and see if they don't charge you a fee. If they don't charge a fee to some customers but do charge a fee to others, then their is something wrong with this business.

I say again. There are many Hobby Warehouses. Google it once and you will see a large internet store, another large one in Ca. There is only one?
If I had bought a item that was not an easy on hand item like DuBro parts and wanted to return it, I would expect a restocking fee. When they sell something the onhand supply is depleted and then another is ordered for their shelves. Now lets say that they had to order another $500 (your example) kit, because you bought the last one. Now they have none. Another one is ordered to sell and it is sitting on their shelf. Now you bring back your kit. Now they have two of them. What if it took a year to sell the one you bought? Now they have $1000 of product to sell because you changed your mind. Would you like to come up with $1000 to just have product sitting on the shelf? Would you like to go through the trouble and make the sale, get the box down, then to have to waste time and put it back? To return that part will mean that the whole time you were there, was a waste of time($) for them, and it has to be done all over again. Twice! now.
All retail companies reserve the right to add a restocking fee. To anybody. Read the company policies before buying!
To add a tick with the BBB is very easy. I am a BBB member and it is very easy to have a customer complain. It is usually meaningless. An order against a restocking fee? Big deal.

Peace Brother! Only one Hobby Warehouse in Richfield MN with an unsatisfactory rating. I'm just trying to protect the buyer by letting him or her know about their record with the BBB. Say for example you wanted to put new siding on your house. Would you use the company with a satisfactory record with the BBB or the company with an unsatisfactory record with the BBB? The company with a restocking fee or the company with no restocking fee? A company that charges $500.00 for an item plus sales tax or a company that charges $500.00 for an item plus $0.00 sales tax and no shipping charge? To each his own, different strokes for different folks, etc. etc. etc..

I've done a lot of business with Sky Hobbies (formerly Hobby Warehouse) in Richfield, MN without ever an issue.

I wouldn't hesitate buying anything from them.

Fellow Flyers,
I have purchase r/c products from this store (now called Sky Hobby - son runs it now) for more than 5 years. I have always been pleased with the knowledge of Tom (the DAD) and Jeremy (the son) and the great prices and selection. I was there just last week. I live 150 miles away in Marshall, MN and have also ordered via phone with good result. Mark me as a satisfied cfustomer.

Yeah, I''ve purchased quite a few parts from them, and my brother bought his T-maxx 3.3 there and we had no problems. They didnt charge us a re-stocking fee when we needed to return or exchange parts. Seems like rglass1144 is the only one who has had any problems with them.

Agreed. I have purchased numerous items over the years from them. Never any problems on returns. I think rglass1144 has some issues.
And by the way, they are closed for good, monday the 21st will be the going out of business sale.

Possibly. Possibly not. Jumping to conclusions about gift certificates is not the issue, the store has supplied many rc enthusiasts with many years of
support. Your ethics of slamming a business based on your experience/INexperience is sad to see on a very popular forum, due to some reason in which you have given us no specific details.

As many of us agree, most of these forums are taken with a grain of salt. If I had chosen not to purchase a airplane based on some of the writers in these threads I wouldn't be taking any planes to the fields.

I woudn't jump to any conclusions about a store or why its closing, including this one. I'm sure some people may have had a bad experience shopping there. Its no different than getting bad produce at a grocery store or having bad service at a McDonalds. If I have bad service at a store, I don't go there again. I don't bad mouth it in public forums but that's me. I will not say that doing otherwise is bad. To each his (or her) own.

I will say this: As a surprise, my wife went into Sky Hobbies with a JR321 servo that I had to get me another (I was short one for a project). She knows very little about R/C and they could have very easily taken advantage of her. Instead, they informed her that the 321s were an older servo and, while they could get them, they would be very expensive. They found a metal-geared Hitec that had the same dimensions as the 321 and was cheaper than the 321 but had the same torque and was slightly faster. She was happy. I was happy. I had always had good service from them but, the fact that she could go in there and not get fleeced, that made me respect them more. Say what you will, I had good luck with Sky Hobbies.

I have also had good luck with Hub Hobbies as well. My issue with Hub is that they don't have the selection I am looking for. But the service has been great with them and they will order in anything I need.

Tim

The word on the street today is that Sky Hobbies is selling things at a 10% markdown this week, and 20% next week.

Not sure what the outcome is after that, but time to stock up

I followed this thread and was just wondering, did anyone that posted bother checking with the BBB to see what there rating was?? That would have been the proof of the pudding, it would only take one phone call.
Just wondering.

1st post here, just wondering if anyone knows if hobby warehouse (sky the limit hobby) will be opening at all again? I stopped by on wednesday of last week, and it was all locked up. I need some parts for my trex, and they have the best deals in town. Also I have always wanted to get my hands on one of their hanging airplanes, just never got around to buying one.
If their not going to open again, what are they going to do with all their inventory? ebay?

I went there myself last Saturday and found the store locked up with a restraining order on the front door stating that Tom (the father) was not to be present on the property, and was not to sell or remove anything out of the store. I really liked these guys, they always have been great to me, and hope that this is just a bump in the road. It is hard to run a small business, let alone a family one. If anyone has anymore news about this please let us know. I wish them the best and hope to see them open again.

I too have had my eye on some of the hanging planes myself. You snooze you loose....
