Default Selling Advice Needed

I'm going to sell my MBX-4 XR Works. I am not trying to sell it here, I just need advice.

Should I part it out, or sell it whole? It has three tanks of fuel through it and is like new. It has a OS RZ-V01B engine and a JR XS3 radio. The body has not been painted. The protective layer is still on.

Since I bought the car, my wife has had a baby. I won't be able to enjoy the car for quite some time.

Thanks guys,
Rob B.

It all depends. Sometimes listing fees on places like bay can kill your profit. But if you part it out you can charge a good amount for shipping. Say $10 for the motor, 20$ for the car, 15$ for the radio, $20 for misc other parts. Right there you already have $65 in your pocket from shipping charges. (trust me it wont cost that much to ship I do it for a living)

Or unload the whole thing for a buy it now price and have it in your pocket asap. Do you have to have the money NOW or is it just an upcoming thing?

i just bought an xr works w/ the same engine...and then bought a hitec lynx 3d radio, servos, and starter box.
i would say that i have about $300 in the car and engine, 160 in the radio w/ receiver (and a synth module), $90 in servos, and $60 in the starter box.
the servos are hitec 625mg and 945mg. the starter is ofna universal.
i bought everything from ebay....
the car has been run, and some of the parts are a bit loose - i replaced the rear suspension arms (had a sh1te lode of parts laying around from other mbx's) and need to replace some more stuffs...(anyone have a good set of hinge pins??)
if you have never run the car, you could probably get well over $600+ for the package on ebay. take a look at some of the completed auctions to see what they are selling for. the less beat the car is, the better you will do obviously.

btw - you are from dayton? have you been to the indoor dirt track there?? i stopped and checked it out when i was at training at the motoman facility... that is a killer track... wish i lived closer!

i would have bought your rig a few weeks ago!!

I have time. However, I don't want to wait until summer either.

Dayton, yes. Indoor track, no. Between my work schedule and our new baby (first) I've not had time to stop by. I know where it is.

I've ran it for three tanks. $600 sucks. I have $1,100 in the package (including extra wheels, tires, two starter boxes, igniter........). It is a great car, but if I had known that this was going to happen I wouldn't have bought it. The loss in value is too great.

Thanks for the suggestions. If you see it on eBay, I'm WERA49 there also.

I got a Hyper at the end of December and my wife had our first child 6 weeks ago so I can see your dilema, 1/8 scale is soo much fun though, I have found a little time to get out with it since our arrival however I know selling it would just end in tears at some point down the line (my tears)[8D] everyone has to have a hobby, all work and no play... etc etc

Wera, when I decided to stop 1/8 for a while, I parted out my XS3, RB S7, servos, and buggy. I made a lot more money on ebay than I would have as a package. Now granted suction fees are a bit steep but you can make it up in shipping. Also make sure you ask for an additional 3% if using a CC cause you will lose money through PP that way in a heartbeat. Good luck, congrats on the baby, and you will be back, I came back lol.

While that 'other' auction site is nice, I would recommend utilizing the RCU Auction here in the RCU Marketplace. The fees for the RCU Auction are less than half of those at that 'other' auction site. Along with that, you will have a 100% RC interest rather than a hodgepodge of lookers and lurkers.

Reguardless of where you sell it, you will get more money for it by parting it out. You mat not get much for the engine because people just don't trust other people when they make claims on engine life. If it were new, that would be another story. Used=bad. The XS3 should fetch a lot by itself even being used. The kit looks really new so you should be able to sell it for as much as %75 of what you paid new.

If you sell it as apackage, you'll get like 50% of what you put into it.

If you part it out, you looking at maybe 70%, plus you can make a buck or two on shipping like previously mentioned.

The sad fact is that people just don't have money to buy it as a whole and pay what it's worth ($700-$800). $180 for a slightly used XS3 is very appealing though. Then another guy is like "damn, $300 for a barely used MBX4". Yet you might not be able to get $480 out of it total and we didn't even go over the engine and pipe yet.

Part it out. More money.

Good Luck.

Just think of this. If you sell it whole, It's gone with one trip to the post office, end of story. Pat it and you'll spend ages listing everythig, You have to break it down, Then you have to collect all the payments, All those trips to the Posties and then your left with parts no-one wants, So that is where all the profit will be lost.

Another thing is that people that charge outrageous postage DON'T sell their Items. A good enticement is to suggest a price at which shippng will become free. A trick I used to great effect.

Cool. Thats what my car looked like new

You are indeed right - $600 does suck for having the investment you put into it...however that is the going rate on the bay....possibly more since it is basically unused.
I might have rocks in my head - maybe you could get $800-$900 out of it with a "buy it now" price...who knows... but there are MBX 5's going for that.
It depends on who is looking at the time I suppose.

Best of luck. And best of luck w/ the baby... heck - maybe keep it for the kid to grow into??

Hey, I got my T-Maxx BECAUSE of our 2yo boy, not in spite of him!!

He fell in love at a hobby store where they were running it outside. This gave me the "leverage" to justify getting into the hobby. Now I'm hooked, and Carter still is into it too!!!

So if you wait 2 years, and your newbie is a BOY, you'll be all set!!!

Congrats & good luck!!

Dean

PS. A Mini-T flyin' around your house will also help "imprint" the wee one with the idea that RC is fun!!!

Some very good points have been made for both options, here's some more food for thought. Right now the MBX4 is a semi hot property as a basis for an MT conversion so you may have better luck offing it as a roller to someone interested in converting it. A good used 4 should bring around $250 to $300, but if you have a pristine example it could bring a bit more. Sell the engine, a good VO1 is worth it's weight in gold at the moment. While it's true some are wary of unknown used engines, many of the OS faithful would roll the bones these days on a chance at a good used VO1 with the current state of the OS buggy engine program being what it is. I've seen these engines go used for as much as $250 in the last few months, but $150 to $175 is average. Another $180 or so on the electronics. The body is another $20 or so and depending on what kind of pipe you have, add another $25 to $75.

actually email me a price for your OS - [email protected]
I have that same engine in my XR, and could use another since they are so scarce.
