I have broken my second differential on my hyper 7. The small metal part that is formed into the case is busting out. I have had one break in the center and one in the front. I know that there is an aluminum case for the spider but it is expensive. Are there any other differentals that will fit the hyper that are better construction.
Thanks

If you keep the diff gears shimmed right those bushing shouldn't come loose, I guess that's what you're talking about. I've been running thew hyper chassis for almost 3 years and haven't had a diff case come apart
From your other post, you're still running the old style a-arms?
wow, those came on the original RTR kit are you sure you have a pro kit?

Unfortunately I have to agree with HAd on this. I've not even had a whiff of trouble with any hyper diff, I have seen them chew pinions on others rides but this was gearbox wear. I wonder if you are overfilling them with lube or there is actually a case problem.BUT you are the only one with this reported problem. If you can get a pic on here of it then I am interested to see how you mean.

I will try to get some pictures tonight. The metal bushing looks like it it molded into the diff case. the plastic around the metal is breaking off on the inside. It looks like it has to much of a torsional load on the bushing perpendicular to the axel. I could see this happeing on the front with all the up and down movement that it sees from the axel ball. But in the center there should not be in torque on it.
I just rebuilt my diff with another case I had that the gears ate themsleves and I am getting some binding. How should I be shimming these diffs. each of the planatary gears has a small shim under it and the main gears have only the large shim that goes over the O ring.
Yes I do have a pro kit but it is a couple years old. It sat on a guys shelf for two years he never built it.
Thanks

The build of the diff sounds correct from what you say. I wonder if it is the shimming of the diff into the gearbox that may be the problem here, pushing it onto the pinion gear could cause this problem (to my mind) but not ever having seen it I can't confirm. But I think this is the most likely cause. The remedy I think is to place a shim with the bearing on the end of the diff which is seperating, so to push the crown gear a little further off the pinion gear and release some of that tension you speak of.

You may have touched in it Alex,
When the outdrive bearings start getting bad it allows a lot of twisting within the system
The outdrive bearings must be in good condition and fit tight in the case. If when in the gear box you can wiggle the outdrive out of line a lot the bearings or the case need service, maybe both.
I know on mine those are the only parts of the system that seams to show wear.

Thats what i was going to suggest.A bad bearing/s will heat the case up and make the plastic brittle without actually melting it.This could be why it is chipping around the metal insert.
