Hi guys...new to the site [sm=regular_smile.gif]
Have thought about getting an RC Buggy for a while...I remember enjoying an electric one as a child but used to hate waiting for the 8 AA batteries to charge
Wanted some advice on where to start...here are my creteria...
1. Nitro
2. Buggy
3. 1/8 or 1/10 but must be pretty fast
4. Would like to build it myself so it must have clear and easy instructions + diagrams
5. Cost around $300 including engine/radio gear/glow starter etc
6. Second hand is fine
7. VERY important - must be strong - able to take a beating, will sacrifice speed for strength
Am I asking too much or is there something for that price to get me going?
Any ideas/recommendations would be great
Thanks in advance

I have to go very soon so I need to make this short but I highly recommend saving more then $300 for a buggy. $300 will get you some of the ofna RTRs but you'll need to upgrade atleast the radio and servos pushing that to about $400+ at the very cheapest. Not to mention that they don't come with oil in the diffs so you'll have to buy silicon diff oil along with fuel, rechargable glow ignitor, tires and rims (if your racing), glow plugs, reciever pack, and a few other odds and ends.
I'd recommend getting the hyper 7 TQ kit. It costs about $200 for a rolling chassis then you put in your own engine and electronics. By the time your done it would cost about $600. Sorry I can't give you more info but I'm late getting to the track already

thanks for all the help...an expensive sport then!!
was hoping i could get an ofna hyper 7 with everything to run it for $300 off ebay? some pretty good second hand prices but then it takes the fun out of setting it all up from scratch
is the hyper 7 with a .21 engine a good way to get into nitro buggys?

Eh depends on how much he wants for it. That buggy still has the worthless stock ofna electronics in it which is exactly the stuff I said he would need to upgrade if he bought an RTR. The steering servo will lose torque after about 3 quarts of fuel and the buggy wont turn, the throttle servo doesn't have enough torque to pull the brakes so you wont have any brakes. The stock radio is prone to glitching and the inputs it gives to the servo aren't to precise.
If you can get the buggy for $200 like it says in the thread then it might be worth it. Just upgrade the radio to a Futaba 2PL 75mhz ($80 and it might come with servos), and if the radio doesn't come with servos then get the Futaba S3305 ($35) for steering and the S3010 ($25) for throttle/brake. A reciever pack (about $30) would also be good to have because it puts more power to your electronics making them perform better. If you did it this way that would come out to $370 and would be a lot cheaper then buying a new kit, electronics, and especially an engine. He might also include all of the small stuff like a glow ignitor and if that is a PBS or a PCR it should come with a starter box so you don't need to screw with a pull starter.

Get a Hyper 7 TQ = $200
OS RG= $110
Futaba 2PH = $40 (this is the absolute bottom of radios, its very relible and i used one in my buggy for over a year fine, but there are much better radios)
There thats exactly $350 about $75 bucks more will get you some preatty good servoes, and your ready to go. This car definetly meets all your requirments, and the OS rg is the operfect engine for you, relieble, powerful, and preatty fast all in one package.
OR
You could just get this very very strong car also a good choice for you,a nd it comes with everything you need, except im not sure if it comes with a radio, but thats about $100 for a whole system. Ive ordered from this guy before, hes in HONG kng it takes a while to get to you but he has very good prices.

If you are looking for a cheap hobby this is not it but is well worth it in my opinion. I started out 6 years ago and about $10,000 plus I am a true RC junky! Is this your first nitro? If so keep in mind you will need more then just the RTR kit. Good luck and welcome to the forum.
