Diff Problem

Hi all, I have owned a Hyper 8 Pro for a couple of months and just recently put 7000, 3000, 3000, diff oils in my diffs front to back on recommendation. THe buggy appears to have been put back together properly although when I tested it, it only had about 20% acceleration. [
] The motor is fine but it seems that the diffs are slipping before driving the wheels. Could anyone please help out with this? It is really driving me up the wall. Could it be that I've overfilled the diffs with oil? thanks

wow them diffs are way off, ur setup should be something like this, going from FRONT CENTRE REAR , 2-5K In front, 7-10K in centre, and 3-5K in rear, its all personal preference really, but maybe something else is wrong , but dam that setup u got is whack

Many like 5 in front, 7 in center and 2 in rear or 3 in rear depending on track.
Your power may be off due to multiple reasons. Check your shimming and see if your diff gears are meshed properly.
You may also check your engine tune since the weather has changed.

The meshing of the gears seems to be fine, the gears were put in the same way they came out and there was to pieces left over. The motor is fine and there is no slop between the clutch bell and the flywheel. The problem appears to be between the flywheel and the links from the centre to the front and back diffs, thanks

Well first if you have TWO pieces you left out could be the problem and what are they? Normally when you take something apart and end of with parts left over you should found out where they go before going any further. [X(] I run 5K, 5K and 1K but I am going to 2K in the rear and might try 7K in the middle.

Sounds like one of the bone ends didn't get put back in the outdrive cup in the front end. Thats a pretty heavy oil in the front compared to the center on this buggy. I still like 3-3-1.

Some say this is a big problem with the Hyper 8 but in 5 or 6 gallons it only happen once to me. But to help keep it from happing again I ground a small recess where the setscrew sets.
When it did happen at first it did not loose all power as it would grab some but after a while it finale was slipping so bad it would hardly move. Bat part it is happen in qualifying at the first round of the Georgia Championship Series this year. Got it fixed for the B main and missed getting in the A main by on position. But I did go from last place to 11th place.

3 - 3 - 1 ??? How do you corner with that setup?? I generally run heavy in the front...7-10k, heavy in the middle, again 7-10k, and very light in the rear, 1 or 2k...my XB8 is currently running 7 - 10 - 2 for a technical track, I love the way the front bites when exiting corners with this setup...I used to run 10 - 10 - 1 on my old Hyper 7, as recommended by a Hyper guru, an old user on here (Uberchav Alex/Grahama), that was good too. Depends how you drive mostly...

It all depends on driving style and the track your on.
If its working for you then stick with it.
And it sounds like the setscrews to me or an incorrect mesh on CB spur.

I'm not saying he's wrong, maybe he knows something I don't, I'm certainly no guru myself...I would be interested to hear any explanation he could offer for this...maybe we could all learn something, 'cos that setup is downright strange in my experience.

I also noticed that Mayhem Maniac/Rustler08 is now MBX5T Maniac (at least he doesn't come in here much anymore, now we have Hincappe), Engrose keeps coming back now and then (as Captain Firearms). I'm feeling left out, maybe I should change my name! lol!

I think I've found my problem. I took apart the centre diff last night and I found that the oring wasn't sitting around the case but had slipped into the gear on the rear side which would explain why the diff was slipping as the gears weren't meshing. Should these orings be replaced every time the diff is opened?

It is good practice to change them fairly often, so your diffs don't leak. I don't think this is your problem though. when you say your car only has 20% of its power is it because something is slipping or is something is binding up? I'm thinking that you haven't done up a grub screw in one of the drive shafts or something.
Also i agree that your diff oils are weird but they are nothing to do with your lack of drive.
I remember trying the 3-3-5 setup in my hyper 7 from the advice of a one of the hyper 7 gurus, he also had a full explanation of why it worked and that it was only a hyper 7 thing. And he was right it works really well i never liked the set up and went back to a more conventional setup but it was interesting to try.
Spider diffs also work slightly different to standards diffs as they are stiffer then a standard diff with the same oil in it at high differential speeds.

I've checked and the grub screws are done up tight so thats not the problem. Part of the oring was squashed between the two cogs to I'm hoping that was created clearance to make it slip. I'm going to replace the oring and test it, I can't think of what else it could be, I'll let you guys know how it goes, thanks for the help
