Hi,
I want to put a .28 engine in my MBX5R buggy for bashing. I figure i can make it go as fast as a .21 on lower rev's by using it's tourqe to turn a larger gear.
The lower rpm will make it last longer.
It's only going to be used for bashing around a home made race track and around the park. But i still want it to go and handle well.
I don't have a clue on what setup to use though.
Any ideas on what diff oils would work best?
Also what gearing would work well?
And what oil should i use in my shocks?
If anyone runs a .28 it would be great to hear what setup your running.
Thanks.

I remember you mentioned in your other thread about setups for running a .28 engine. You don't need to change anything above and beyond what is a working setup for that car. If you don't know at all what to try then go with a generic setup for the diffs (F-M-R) 5k - 7k - 2k. 300-400 in the shocks.
The gearing and pipe are the only things you need to worry about when changing the engine. If I was you and I was bashing and I wanted to use all that power and still have great top speed, I'd go for a 16, 17, or at a real stretch, 18 tooth clutch bell.
I have to tell you as well though, if you overgear a car, you are straining the engine much more than running it at higher revs with softer gearing...instead of making it last longer, you may find you simply pop a conrod.

I'm fairly confident i won't pop a conrod. I haven't heard anyone doing that with a NINJA yet. Although not many have .28's it would seem.
I have run my .21 NINJA on an 18t and stock mugen spur gear and no problems so far.
Obviously it's slow on accelaration though.
Looking at the stats of the two engines side by side they say the .28 has double the tourqe consistantly all the way through the power band.
So i was hoping an 18t would be fine because i already have one. I don't have a 16 or 17t.
To reduce the strain even more and produce better throttle response i was thinking about getting the extra Mugen spur it's slightly larger by only a few teeth. I'm not sure if it will fit with the 18t pinion though.
I could do with a smaller spur but mugen only sell 2 and i do't know what others fit so... I'm stuck there.
5k 7k 3k sounds okay, i was hoping you would reccomend something else though. LOL
I pop the drive pins with 3k 3k 1k and the .21 NINJA.
I have the NINJA FLS pipe at the moment do you think that should work okay with the .28?
Thanks for the reply. Foxy

dude i may not agree with you calling the Ninja 28 unrefined.. but regardless you will love that motor... especialy if you like high RPM HP.. the Ninja 28 is an absolute top end screamer... makes a C6 look tame on top is a understatement.... I would think a 18 th bell would be fine.. for truggy we use a 14th bell with the Ninja 28 for track racing.....when you drive this motor you'd swear it was a giant .21, as the powerband is like a .21 but with 40% more power across the board.....it also has an amazing sound to it ....

I doubt that the high rpm will impress me that much i have a Nova 367 which rev's higher. I hope i won't be needing the high revs. If i do it's not what i'm after.
I will be gearing it high. 18t and 13t are the only pinions i have at the moment.
I will be very happy if the .28 with an 18t pinion has enough tourqe to get it up and moving like the .21 does with the 13t.
That would be perfect.
Either way though i will gear it so it accelartes exatly the same as the .21 so i can keep the revs low and extend the life of the engine.
What setup do you use for diff oils/suspention?
Also what gear ratio are you running with your .28, like what size spur are you running/how many turns of the pinion does it take to do one turn of the wheels?
