I bought a yota hilux body for my SCX10
I really wanna try and do a cool job on this body.
I plan to have actual rust between the paint and body.
I was kinda thinking of a primer like color. But I cant even find a gray paint on ebay.
Anyone had luck with paints that dont specifically say they are for lexan? I know the krylon paints are supposed to be for plastic...can they work on lexan?
Any thoughts on other colors? I want to make the truck look like it shows its age, but is still in good condition. Most lexan paints are very bright and cause of the body appear glossy and new. I at least want the paint be a color that wont add to the glossy effect of the lexan. No metallics, or "brilliant" in the name.

For That type if detail I would recomend paiting on the outside and using A enamel paint with a plastic primer. That way it will be a harder paint surface. then layer up ur paint job, texture it, then detail in the rust
It might chip off over time but nothing a touch up wont fix, and by the sounds a touched up spot would suit the look u ate going for
U can get really keen after the primer u could paint it with a few coats of a mild steel color then another primer looking color and patches of a body filler color. That way if u scratch it, u will get some cool scale looking scratches.

like phax said you will have to do it on the outside, as the gloss is actually from the lexan shell itself due to the paint being on the inside.
Compared to enamel paints I've used on other things I actually find lexan paint to be pretty dull (when you don't get the sparkly paint) specially when its clear coated

Just to add, if u paint on the outside u could go nuts on detailing the lexan body with a razor blade, create scratches, score marks, and u could even drill some rust holes and scratch out the edges of the holes to thin out the lexan for a more scale look
I'm my experance ive had more luch with perminate markers sticking to lexan than acrylics.
Sometimes markers can help to define body lines and general detailing.
I would highly recomend practicing paint rust, i found it very challenging on a 1/24 model I made and learnt a lot from that and a few boats

jeez, I dont know if I have the extra skill to paint on the outside. More detailled masking and such I think would be needed.
My thought other than the primer like color, is a dark read. Again, I havent found a lexan paint thats a DARK red, they were all bright.
My other thinking is that the seems (door jams and such) If I painted them 1st with a color that was a shade darker than the body color that would look more scale. Ive seen many bodies where the seems and such were drawn over with a black marker. I get the effect attempted, but the black marker stands out too much against the body color.
Ill have to see what options my LHS has.
Maybe if I paint the body color on the inside (a darker color) and then do 1 body panel on the outside a different color....to look like a replacemnt part.
I also have to buy new links. I have 98mm front and rear and the front especially is too far forward. I bought some 91mm hoping they will be short enough.

ive seen 1:1 cars painted with plastic dip.
Apparently it can go on...and you dont have to mask. just peel it off the windows and lights before it fully dries.
after a day, its solid enough you can drive the car threw a car wash. and rocks and such wont chip it either.......but at the same time, if you start in a corner you can peel the whole dang thing off. And it wont damage the paint. So you can change the color, and go back to you stock color down the road.
Almost tempting to try it on a lexan body. The plastic dip stays flexable, so it might work.
I like the 2 pics below. granted, they are hardbodies, but I like the colors used. I actually think I have a tamiya High lift light bar as well!

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXRV23&P=7 backed with black I imagine would be quite dark, but it would take experimentation you could also mix a drop or so of black in the paint itself. I've done that to darken paint colors in the past. I think I've done 1 black to 7 of the color, but it takes some experimentation so just use a piece of scrap lexan
