so my 8 year old daughter's used emaxx is coming tomorrow!
she watches monster jam with me. she really likes monster mutt.
i dont have the cash to buy a clear body. the one coming on the truck is stock, but looks like it doesnt have any cracks, just some scratches.
so, i am thinking of painting the outside of the body. since its a kid driving the truck, it will get scrapped up anyway[&:]
but i need to figure out how the make the ears, mouth and tail(which is on a huge spring on the real truck)
any ideas guys? what kinda spray paint would you try to use on the outside of a lexan body?

i would use regular lexan, do the black first, than mask the spots and do white, like they paint 1:1 cars. The mouth and tail, how about some vinyl or cotton cloth, stuff it with cotton, like pillow stuff, and than sew it into those shapes.Than just screw it to the body, or something like that.

thick felt from a a&c store for the ears and pop-rivet them on to the hood
idk about the tail, maybe twist up a peice of felt and hot glue in a peice of 16awg copper single strand wire (forget the name for it) and shoe goo in the wire to the back of the body

Order her a 1950's Mercury body, I believe HPI or Parma make one. Then mask it off and use Pactra, Tamiya or Spazstix paint meant for Lexan/polycarbonate bodies. As mentioned, use Felt for the ears then either pop rivet or use small wood screws to attach them, and if the real one has a spring for a tail, then go down to ace hardware and get a spring, they've got a whole section of springs. Bend it and just duplicate the real one and pop a small hole into the body, thread it in and as mentioned, shoe goo that area very well. For the Tongue, use excess Lexan from the body, I think using one of the wheel wells should have plenty of area to be used as a tongue. Just be sure to mask it off before you spray it one of the other colors accidentally. Personally, I do all of my masking with Liquid Mask, it makes it very easy. You just have to make sure you use at least 4 coats and when cutting it for the graphics, be sure to use a very light touch or you'll cut into the lexan. I hope that helps ya a bit!

so here is what i did.
i took a stock beat-up body and cleaned the outside real good.
then i sprayed it with bulldog adhesion promoter
then i used krylon white spray paint.
i made the ears and tonge out of felt, each with a fuzzy stick inside to give it some shape(i just hot glued the edges)
the ears and tunge and tail are all held on with zip ties. the tail is made up of many fuzzy sticks.
the black spots are cut-up mail box stickers! much easier than masking and painting.
and lastly i bought a $2 dog collar and used zip ties to attach it.
since i started with a rough body, the results are far from perfect. but my kid will love it.
not bad for just
$5 paint
$1.50 felt
$3 fuzzy sticks
$3 mail box number stickers
$2 dog collar
under $15.
im sure it wont last very long. the paint will scratch off, and at some point im sure i will have to re-attach the felt parts. but it will make the emaxx more fun for my girl, and thats worth the few bucks.

Nice job, it is sure fun when the kids get into it, isn't it. My 3 year old is currently watching a movie on the couch with my slash 4x4, tower terror and cliff climber all around her (she said the trucks wanted to watch movies)

i made a short youtube vid of my kid driving her emaxx with the new custom body. she likes it alot.
she is still learning to drive RC's. but she does better with the emaxx than her mini t since the emaxx doesnt get stuck very easy.
