Default Which receiver do you use? Spektrum AR6100???

Just wondering if anyone has used to AR6100 Spektrum receiver in combat. They consider it for park fliers, but thought some of you may have more experience. I have a real problem putting a $90 Rx in a combat plane, but my Tx dies recently and I upgraded to a Spektrum. Now I have half a dozen receivers sitting around and I'm trying to figure out if I should sell them off or buy another FM TX. For the cost of sending it off and having it repaired I could almost replace it. Also curious what receivers most of you use in you combats. Thanks.

Hi, we like to use Electron 6's. They are small, light, and as cheap or slightly cheaper than a 7-ch futaba. Hitec also has great warranty service if you break the RX in combat.

Unless you want to go to spread spectrum, I would recommend the Electron 6.

I used the R7000 in all my combat planes this year. I cant count how many times I was in a midair or dirtnap. None of them have broken the only thing I have happen is one of the remote receiver came off and got lost after a dirtnap.

I figured some people were going with the 2.4 systems by now. I fear the FMs will be phased out pretty quick. A friend of mine own the LHS and we've noticed that the Futaba FM transmitters are almost all discontinued as well are replacement parts. I've looked at the AR6200 Spektrum receiver since it is about $20 less. Don't think I'd miss the extra channel, at least with any of my combat planes.

Blue Note,

Do you fly SSC? We have a huge combat meet in Jackson, TN the third weekend in June. I think last year the Nationals only had 2 more pilots than we had in Jackson. We're not too far from Knoxville.

Good to know about June. I'll have to look into going. There is little activity with combat that I have found here in Knoxville, but I look to change that. At present I do more flying of the models than the actual combat due to lack of willingness from other pilots around. Most of my attention is directed toward to SSC, open class, and 2610 WW2 scale combat. Still working the bugs out of some of my designs. Will definitely pull the map out to find Jackson.

I tryed the 6100's[&o] I lost signal alot and eneded up with a lawn dart. I wrote spektrum and they said these are designed for slow flying electric aircraft, Mainly Heli's. I switched to the Ar6200 (like $69.00 shipped on Ebay) just wrap em up with foam and they will live, I've had a couple of good mid airs and I'm still good.

Dont waste your time with the 6100's. But if you do I have 2 I'll sell ya

http://www.spektrumrc.com/Search/Def...rchTerm=Ar6200

just my 2 cents.

I had the chance to see Lee Little fly Open B at Jetero in Crosby Tx a couple of weekends ago. He is a very good pilot, as were all of the Open B guys. I had thought of maybe giving it a try. all I have ever flown is ssc and thought whats the difference? Huh, big difference. Glad I sat that 1 out and just spectated.

Yeah, I much prefer SSC. It's plenty fast and exciting for me!

My reciever of choice is a 555 hitech, cheap and very durable. I bought 6 or so on rcu and e-bay last winter all new for about $35 each if you watch carefully. I have used O5S hitech single conversions on my SSC planes for the last 2 seasons with good results. I think we bought those for $23 each from our LHS here. Need to protect the 05S as it only has a cardboard case.

I've decided to use the Spektrum AR6200's for my combats. I just had to buy a new radio and couldn't justify investing more money in fading technology. I would definitely like to see a growing interest in the different combat events here in east Tennessee. Even slope combat would be possible around here.

Slope Combat as in Gliders?

Yeah. Slope combat, as in gliders. It is my understanding that instead of trying to cut the ribbons you are actually trying to ground each others plane to score a 'kill'. One of the biggest differences is that in most cases you are flying parallel to each other. You have to fly a certain pattern to maintain lift along the slope, so in many cases the collisions are not as violent. That being said, I have also read that a slope glider holds the world record for the fastest RC plane and clocked in over 300mph. Unconfirmed. However, the ability to fly on windy days when it kind of sucks flying regular models is intriguing, and you would have less money invested since you don't have an engine, fuel tank, or throttle servo. I'm going to look into it at least.

Thats what I'm reading about and googleing right now. Pretty amazing never even thought of it, but I live on the flatest state in the nation too. My Mom lives in Leesburg Al. just below Lookout Mountain. I've thought a few times when I was there what it would be like to fly from the Mountain when we were up there looking over it. Never thought of a glider though. "Duh fer me"

Lookout Mountain is beautiful, but I don't know about any landing zones. Only been there once, and the hang gliders landed in a field much lower and farther away than their takeoff point. I've seen where in some locations they set up a net to fly into and catch the plane if there is no landing zone. I understand slope soaring is also popular at the coast as the wind blows into the dunes. The cool thing I was thinking about it, if you build and fly a scale combat plane ( say 2610 class ), it would be very easy to modify your design to be a slope plane - I think. I think scale WW2 combat is more popular, but any form of combat will be a rush.

Blue Note,

I don't know about your specific area, but to see the popularity of the various combat events in sanctioned meets on a national scale, check here: http://www.rccombat.com/nps/index.asp SSC is the most popular class, followed by Open B, with the scale classes pulling up the rear.

If you're in Knoxville, there are SSC meets in Jackson, TN; sometimes Nashville area, several in Georgia every year, and more as you get further away. There may or may not be a scale meet in Nashville next year.

Here is the calendar of official events. http://www.rccombat.com/events/index.asp

I fly SSC almost every weekend with the posterboy on that site, Bert Dodson. At the Jetero Joust he placed 2nd to Lee Little in OpenB.
