This past Sunday we held our annual Onslaught Over Ontario near London Ontario for a couple of hours of nonstop WW1 combat and 6 rounds of WW2 combat. Twelve inches of snow makes for a soft landing!

Lot of snow there. We haven't seen any yet, and there call us "Winter"peg. Looks like everyone had a great time. Snow was deep. How were the temperatures?

Hi Jim,
We try to hold the Onslaught as close to Remembrance Day, (Nov. 11) every year.
The snow this year was a 'Bonus' extra challenge for us. A Big lake effect from Lake Huron Friday night.
Temps were -6 , close to 0 by Noon, tapering back down with the Sun.
If it had got above 0 the streamers would have melted on contact with the ground.
Light winds and variable sun/haze/blue sky was perfect.
Breaking Trail through 18in. of fresh snow to get our downed planes was a good test of our winter boots, and left most of us breathing hard upon return... And thinking SkiDoo !
The flying was Great. We had a Laugh !
More pictures are coming.
Video was taken all day. Just got to find the site it will be hosted on...
Yeah, It is True: If model airplanes were like Television.
Maac Scale Combat would be like the Jerry Springer Show.
Without Jerry and the Bouncers!
HeHeHe
Take care,
Have fun,

Hi aldentwc,
The snow was 12-18in deep and really light and fluffy. Would have needed floats to takeoff/land.
Not much cushion effect for lawn darts. The reason for all the 'little pieces' in the midair shots is that coro gets brittle below freezing.
95% of the planes are coro. Actually the carnage was not bad at all. (only 2 that are not worth repairing)
I'm the only die-hard left flying balsa/foam.
More photos to come and a video of the day is being worked on...

Cross Check,
Those are great pictures. It looks like you guys had a great time.
In regards to hosting videos... Consider uploading the videos to [link=http://www.vimeo.com]www.vimeo.com[/link]. The nice thing about Vimeo is that their playback quality is so much better than YouTube. They will even let you upload and playback in HD. And as you probably know, you need as much video quality you can get when taking video of combat. Here's my video of Toronto-style combat, in HD, on Vimeo...

Hi Juice,
Too bad the Humber Combat Pilots were busy/sailing that BattleRoyale weekend !
We could have been Famous ! ! ! HeHeHe
Great Video, love that music.
My Caution (I call it 'Intersection Ahead') is ready to go anytime. Combat is always a Laugh.
I know someone was doing video of the Onslaught. Said he would put it on some site.
I was busy re-tying streamers at the time... and was distracted .
I'll catch up somehow and let him know about your links.
Thanks Juice.
We'll be flying our Cautions/Enigmas New Years Day...

Those are the best combat pictures I have ever seen! Good job. I have a spare OS .25 engine sitting on a shelf. I should build one of those coroplat planes and joing the fun.

There are some short kits available from Johny G over at the "other" RC website, namely the SE5, Fokker DVII and Neuport 17. The Albatros D5a is scratch built and we have some dimensions and working drawings for it.

Juice,
I'm in Maple if you wanna get together to have a look at how these planes go together. Johnny G also has Corsair, Spitfire, and Tony short kits which are well worth the money. I've got P51 templates as well as DVII templates and some Albatros parts if you're interested.
email me at dpaluzzi at rogers dot com if you wanna get together.

Buzz,
Thanks for updating the links.
More photos and the video up shortly...
Hopefully more closeup shots of the planes.
The JohnnyG coro kits are the latest and greatest in 8+yrs of coro ScaleCombat construction techniques here.
With plenty of 'destruct' testing along the way. (HeHeHe)
The Coro construction is very practical/durable/economical. And they fly great.
More later...
Take care,
Have fun,

A Big Thanks to Bob'SKYDOG' for taking the time to take the video and edit it, just to share it with us.
Check out his cool website at www.skydog.ca
A Really Great guy who used to fly 100+mph C/L Combat back in the 60/70s... (I'm spending the $10 for my Club to show the full video on this winter's video night meeting ! )
Anyone doubting the Durability/Fly-Ability of coro...
Nudge,Nudge, Wink,Wink... Say No More ! ! !
Due to the weather/pit conditions, instead of usual Rounds/Heats, we opted for a WW1 'Free for All/All Out', 2 hour Session.
We had no frequency conflicts.
Planes took off from the plowed section to the right of the Flightline.
Landings 'plonked' into the snow to the left, and could be easily retrieved/refueled/re-streamered.
The Combat Box was well out. (The camera shots make it look closer sometimes)
As needed, every 20-30minutes or so, we would all land to get the planes that went down int the Combat Box area.
Needless to say, it was a complete Laugh.
We only stopped because the hot chili lunch was ready and our Rx batteries were getting low in the cold.
And our fingers were 'warmed up' enough to get the WW2s fired up to start 6 Rounds at 1:00PM.
For WW2 Rounds we opted for no 'start on time' pts. The snow made the pits a bit crowded and we did not want anyone rushing...
Planes that took off earlier just flew around at half-throttle, till most/all planes that heat were in the air. Worked out Great.
The 5th Round was frigging awesome. Last 8 planes up, really cool 'nibbling' cuts, engines really honking/dialed in... everyone 'in the groove' keeping/cutting streamer pts...
I called 'End Combat' after 5minutes.
Every Pilot complained, so we started the 6th Round without ending the fifth... Too Cool ! ! !
Last planes landed 15 min after the start of the 5th Round. Both with partial streamers.... Increadable Flying! ! !
Biggest pain of the day was picking out snow/ice from the engines after landing in the fluffy snow.
No big deal.
Because it was Too much Fun.
Actually, the most fun you can have with a model airplane... HeHeHe
