I may try this, to see what this Velion is all about, compared to my 7700 can the motor hook right up to the MM esc?

they only go fast because of super high voltage lipos and mega tall gearing.

a mamba would be even faster with the same battery/gearing, we are talking 120~ here. The motors will keep winding out untill it reaches about 90 thousand RPM and the rotor shatters.

Ya, the MM couldn't keep that tall gearing for more then one speed run. If that. It will explode. It's top end vs low end. The low end can be just as fast, you just gear up. I have never seen a MM owner gear their MM even close to what I can gear my vxl.

The vxl is 3500kv.

No it will not. The vxl uses 3.5mm plugs and the MM uses 4mm plugs. You need to find some way to get around that.

What vehicle would this setup be in?

stampede,
The vxl does great in a Stampede. I must say. Do you have one sitting around? Or were you talking about BUYING a vxl motor?

Let me just give you an example. What do you gear your MM (whatever the kv is here) motor?

My dad says "it must be crimped on". I keep telling him, no, it's only a 30 watt iron. He will not allow me to buy MY OWN 60 watt iron. I need to prove to him that his little 30 watt will not get the job done. I will wate until I get more replies then show him.

look, a 30watt iron wont cut it. you will have cold joints and solder everywhere. Pick up a weller 40W or higher, or just go to radio shack, you can get cheap irons for like 5 bucks there.

Also, be sure to use 60/40 rosin core solder and use heat shrink tubing. tin the wire and the connector, slip the wire in and heat them together. If you cant do it your LHS should be able to help.

crimped on, lol. if you have a poor connection, you have poor power, it's just that simple. if your father can't see that, then hey, they're only 7 bucks or so for a hobbico brand iron, if you can get to your local hobby shop, grab one up for yourself, I'm sure you can scrape up 7 bucks ish.

Thats high for a 7700kv! I'm geared 23/86, but I thought you would be geared much lower. If you don't have one, it's probably not worth you buying one. They do perform great though. Never trust anyone when they tell you that it's SLOW because it's a low Kv. It has more power then most people can handle.

Update.

I have just ordered myself a 60 watt soldering iron. (hobbico)

I checked out the Wellers, and they are pricey! I also picked up some rosen core solder.

Just want to make sure it's the right one.

It's 40% TIN 60% LEAD ELECTRICAL SOLDER. Hope it's the right stuff.

The solder should work. Ive heard you can use either 60/40 or 40/60. I use 60/40. But as i said what you got should work for ya.

60% tin and 40% lead solder.

Be sure to get a chisel tip for your iron.

weller pencil irons are not really that expensive, look at Hakko soldering stations (but they are NICE!!!)

I have never soldered before, so I just want something that will get the job done easily. Is there anything wrong with what I got?
