Well the RC sim marked is already so minimal they have to charge $200 per sim. Now mac has what like 5% of the computer market there is NO way the developer could recup the cost of developing the software for the mac...

Here's an [link=http://cgi.ebay.com/RC-Flight-Simulator-Mac-OS-X-Fun-Easy-to-Learn-to-Fly_W0QQitemZ190120269431QQihZ009QQcategoryZ34056Q QrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem]eBay auction[/link] that's selling a controller with the CRRC simulator that jerstamb mentioned along with instructions on how to install it in Mac OS X. It's about $33. According to [link=http://crrcsim.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php]CRRCsimWiki[/link], however, it doesn't look like it supports helicopters, only fixed-wing crafts.

OK this is HUGE progress! I hooked up my Futaba via an inexpensive USB cable and viola! I was able to set up the Futaba as a joystick on my power PC Mac mini with the demo of X-Plane. Now here's the link to the download of the CRCC referenced above and I'll report back if and how I can get it to work.

Another question if this works on Mac would be is it possible to create aircraft. It seems to be primarily loaded with sailplane at the moment.

OR you can just run parralells. it wont run the usb interface. but you can at least use it for other games. i have G3 on my windows and run it to the 50'' flat screen so theres no problem there lol. but i would like to see one for my mac.

Another long time Mac dude here dreaming of a native rc flight/car sim.

BTW, has anyone nabbed Parallels 3.0 yet and tried a sim on it?

While I'm here - is there a consensus on which rc sim is best? Or, at least, which is best for what? I have no idea which one to get.

No

Lots of passionate rhetoric for individual sims, but there aren't any clear winners. And lot's of the passion covers which is best for what too. But no clear winners there either.

Top contenders seem to be [link=http://www.realflight.com/]Realflight G3.5[/link], [link=http://www.reflex-sim.de/reflex-sim/shop/catalog/]Reflex XTR[/link], [link=http://www.phoenix-simulation.co.uk/]Phoenix[/link], and [link=http://rcflightsim.com/index.html]ClearView[/link]. Another one that's getting some mention, but with the emphasis that it's a very basic simulator, is [link=http://n.ethz.ch/student/mmoeller/fms/index_e.html]FMS[/link].

I did, and tried Phoenix RC in it. No go. It actually got all the way to the point of displaying the scenery, and then froze. Parallels 3.0 only claims "limited DirectX 8.1 support", so any sim which requires DirectX 9 support, such as Phoenix RC or RealFlight G3.5 probably can't work. AFPD uses OpenGL instead, which Parallels 3.0 has better support for. The release notes for Parallels 3.0 list AFPD as one of the apps known to work. ClearView also apparently works. I haven't heard whether they run noticeably slower than when running them natively under Windows though.

What is AFPD? And we're talking it works on a non-Intel Mac?

[link=http://www.aerofly.com/]AeroFly Pro Deluxe[/link], used through Parallels 3.0 (since Parallels has limited DirectX support and AFPD uses OpenGL).

Parallels only works on Intel Macs, so no, this doesn't allow Windows sims to be used on non-Intel Macs. All of the major sims work fine on Intel Macs by the way, using BootCamp, so there's no need to limit yourself to AFPD if you have a Mac. But using BootCamp requires you to log out of OS X and reboot into Windows whenever you want to use your sim, which is inconvenient if you're like me and tend to have lots of windows open and don't usually shut down your computer. Using something like Parallels would allow you to run your sim without having to log out of OSX, provided you have sufficient RAM in your computer to run both OS's side by side. I would recommend having at least 1.5 GB in your computer for this to work well.

I would like to see a dedicated simulator for the Mac.

My iMac is intel based so I will be forced down the Bootcamp/XP path. Will more than likely install the Phoenix sim.

Good luck getting a Mac sim going.

Cheers
Jason.

I can't get RF G3.5 to work in Parallels 3.0. I still use Boot Camp to get to it.

Do a google search for: mac helicopter simulator

There is one out there, you just have to look for it.

That's great if you fly helicopters but what about RC Planes?

I now have Phoenix RC on my MAC running under Bootcamp and Windows XP. Seems to work fine but would still prefer a native app.

Wouldn't it be great if Steve Jobs could get Windows applications to run natively under OS X...

Cheers
Jason.

I don't care who does it! Codeweavers (http://codeweavers.com) allows some windows apps to work under Mac OSX or Linux without needing Windows at all, but it doesn't work well still for graphics intensive apps such as flight sims. I don't even really mind buying Windows though as long as I can run my Windows app without needing to log out of OSX. So if Parallels manages to support DirectX 9 well enough to run flight sims, I'd be pretty happy. I don't expect a high quality native Mac flight sim until Macs become much more popular than they are.

Hi everyone,

If you are really looking for a native Mac OSX Heli flight sim go to http://www.alphamacsoftware.com

You can play around with the sim for 30 minutes in Demo mode, and it is only $30. I use this sim on my Mac with an USB fake remote from RC Tech, and it works just fine.

Best Regards,

David

I have found an rc heliii game for the playstation, it is mode one but very realistic. I have sent word to PS company to upgrade and they are looking into it. I think that you will have an easier time consulting the game manufactures than mac. good luck in your endevers. amybe if you can find one of the stafers at mac who fly or a game designer who flys you might have a chance. Or just learn to create them yourself and sell them the idea that way, then you would make the money.

Absolutley. We need a didicated Mac simulator, that doesn't have to rely on software that copies windoze.
