I tried running Aerofly on parallels but had issues with the USB connection (the dreaded 5 to 10 sec warning!!). The rotating plane on the menu page seemed to be rotating very slowly so even if they get the USB problems sorted out I think graphics will be an issue. We will just have to see how the direct x support improves things....

Yes, there is a distinction between emulation and virtualization. Definitely not the same things!
You won't be able to run Aeorfly or any other "real" sim on Parallels until/unless they include DirectX support. That's just the way it is.

It will be very interesting to see how this plays out, potentially any company willing to port to a second platform is taking a sizable risk in the techology world (given the performance trade offs potentially incurred in making stuff cross platform).
I do have a mac and I would entertain buying a sim for the mac as its my secondary machine (work laptop being primary). I do think that a killer flightsim (rc or full scale) would do great on a mac simply because of a void in that space. If a great looking sim like FS One or G3.5 or others were to do it, I think the first to market could see a whole lot of mac geeks that might just be chomping at the bit for it.
One further benefit for the early adopter is the ability to introduce ports for wine on linux(transgaming) and or linux native without going thru the entire development effort again. Maybe even an bootable cd solution making it super easy to introduce working demo's into lhs without further cost to them.
sorry, enough of the crazy ideas, please consider this my addition to the petition for a mac port.

X-Plane is supposed to be good. Also, my cousin gave me his old pc, it can run g2! Since it may be quite some time before an rc sim is for a mac, look around for old windows computers, or ones that other people are getting rid of. THE BATTLE WILL STILL CONTINUE!

It's not a drivers issue. It's that you can't run DirectX through Parallels. DirectX talks directly to the graphics hardware, which can't happen while you're using a hosted OS.

Parallels claims to be releasing a version later this year which will support DirectX. Also, VMware now has a Mac version, which already supports DirectX 8. Phoenix requires DirectX 9 support though.
I use Phoenix with BootCamp, works fine, but I would rather not have to quit OS X.

Hello, folks:
I am writing this with an iBook, but I have Linux boxes and a Winbox. I gotta point out that there is a Mac sim - "RC Helicopter Simulator 1.82" by AlphaMacSoftware.com. It can be demo'd before purchase (about 30 euro). It seems to be fairly good with the Raptor model (heli). I think this software is native Mac.
Also, I just today stumbled upon another "tri-lingual" software. "CRRCsim" at www.CRRCsim.sourceforge.com has Linux, Mac and Windows versions. My main box is running Linux so I downloaded the source, compiled and ran it. It does real well with gliders - very realistic. It has decent graphics and has thermals, wind, gusts, etc. The models can be altered but bewarned, you gotta speek some geek!
But it also has some standard power models - foamies, deltas, pattern and the like. But no helicopters. I have not run the Mac verision - yet.
And ----- it is free.
Cheers,
Jerry
An old time modeler just returning. KwikFly II Veco .61, Kraft built PCS 4 ch.
Now building a TRex 450sx electric and DX-7.

Hey, try X-Plane. It's a great Mac flight simulator where you can edit existing aircraft and build your own. It's easy, I taught myself and have built several RC planes. It actually includes two RC aircraft as default planes. There are also a few RC planes available for free download on the web, at www.xplanefreeware.net. Try http://www.tony.smiths.btinternet.co...aircraft1.html for all kinds of links to other aircraft. Go to www.x-plane.com to download the free demo version, available for Mac and Windows. I'm a Mac fan and really like this simulator.

I makes sense to me. Face it make has the best graphic interface in the world except for silicone graphic machines, that's out of almost all home based computing.
I'm all for a sim on mac include the interface for JR radios. My 16 yr old son would think that he has died and gone to heaven if there was a good one. He just wrecked his first plane and believe me he tells me that with the sim all you have to do is hit reset. He claims that one should have to have a waiting time frame that would be an equivilant to building time to reconstruct the airframe after a wreck. Short time delay for small dings longer as the severity increases.
Best of look at petioning for a good sim and mac

Heh... having done support for SGI machines, I can tell you that the GUI isn't great. I did most of my work through the terminal, just to avoid the GUI.

I too would love a good realistic flight sim for mac
Ideally, I could use my DX7 with my settings, and fly a TREX450SE with realistic controls on my PowerBookG4 running MAC OSX!
when will be the day?

If you build they will come!

All of these sims, including RealFlight, FS One, Phoenix, and AFPD, require DirectX support, which is not supported in Parallels. So the answer is no, it won't work. Parallels claims to be working on a version that will support running DirectX apps, so we'll see how that works out.

By the way, here's what Parallels has said so far about DirectX support. http://parallelsvirtualization.blogs...arch?q=directx Just search for "directx" on this page. Supposedly they already have DirectX support in their test version, and it will be released in Parallels version 3.0. I'll by very happy if it really works well, as the only reason I ever reboot my mac into windows is to run my flight sim.
