I need help setting up fsone using a futaba 9cap tx. Could someone please explain how to do this? I'm not suprised it's tailor-made for JR's, but geeesh..., I'm going through hell trying to get this thing working.

I realize this is going to be a pretty popular question.

If you don't have the manual to the radio, I'm sure you can download it from Futaba's site. That'd probably be the best way to figure out how to set up a new plane.
If you have a radio that hasn't been used yet, just turn it on...it defaults to PPM with a basic airplane set-up.
Here's a link to the manual for the 9CAPS:

Michael,
If your not starting with a blank model, navigate to parameters- reset- execute. That should give you a clean slate.

Update:
Mike from phone tech support has got me up and flying. The futaba square-plug adapter from hanger9 (HAN174) does not work with the sim. The correct one will be available in november. I'm using the adapter from Aerofly Pro Deluxe. My sticks are working fine but I haven't figured out how to assign any of my switches yet for flight modes and such.

Help for Futaba Users: There's now a new FAQ to cover how to setup FS One with the Futaba T9CAP computer radio. The instructions are long because I tried to spell out in detail each step. I went through these steps to test it - all OK. The general approach outlined can be used with practically ANY Futaba transmitter. There's a similar FAQ for a 4 channel Futaba (listed below as well).
Some people might look at this and think it's long, but let's all remember how long the manuals are for JR and Futaba 8+ channel computer radios ... they're not so short. So setting up an FS One MiG-15 jet w/ throttle, rudder, elevator, ailerons, flaps, airbrakes, flight modes ... is, well, not so short. But I think once the basic concepts are in hand, it gets a lot easier.
It's about a 5 min operation once things on the real Transmitter side are setup the way you want them to be, i.e. what functions are on what switches and knobs in the case of the T9CAP. For the 4 channel Futaba, things are easier ... but the discussion is still pretty long to help the beginners w/ 4 channel radios.
How can I use my Futaba T9CAP 9-channel transmitter with FS One (9-Ch Fut)? (Q1028-FS1, 10/23/06)
http://www.inertiasoft.com/fsonefaq/#Q1028-FS1
How can I use my Futaba T4VF 4-channel transmitter with FS One (4-Ch Fut)? (Q1027-FS1, 10/22/06)
http://www.inertiasoft.com/fsonefaq/#Q1027-FS1
Thanks for the help w/ Futaba reset ... that got me looking in the right place ... in the 109 page manual.

Michael,
Thanks for the futaba faq.
I'm working with the funtana 90 and followed the faq steps as far as assigning channels 6,7,& 8.
In MS game controller, FS1 properties, controls operate like this:
throttle operates crosshair up & dn- normal
rudder moves Z axis up & dn- ?
elevator moves crosshair L & R- ?
Aileron moves X Ro..(rotation?) up & dn-?
switch C doesn't move anything
switch G moves Z Ro... up & dn
switch E moves Y Ro... up & dn
VR(C) moves Dial & Slider up & dn
In FSOne, I have the following assigned:
throttle - axis 6
rudder - axis 5
elevator - axis 7
Ailerons - axis 4
The planes surfaces are operating correctly, but the switches don't seem to do anything. How do I set up the different flight modes, dual rates and expo, or change throws?
From reading through the big thread, it sounds like this may be possible by making the changes in my radio, but I can't set up a different model in my tx for each model in FSOne.
I have to say that the effort you, Brian, and Mike are putting forth to help us out is greatly appreciated!

Griffin,
First thought: I'm thinking that when you calibrated in FS One, you
did not move ALL items: sticks, the switches you assigned and knobs.
Basically you need to move all axes to calibrate in FS One. See
this item in the FAQ: "Calibrate your setup"
Second thought: In the FAQ, you'll see the item: "For the next line
with the Flight Mode Switch, set the input to be Axis 2 (switch G)."
Once you do this, when you move switch G, it will change the Flight
Mode on the plane and you'll see the Flight Mode name change in the
Tx Editor window.
With the Funtana90, you'll only use the sticks and the flight mode
switch (G in the example).
When you're doing all this in FS One like outlined in the FAQ, you're
using the "Software radio", i.e. the Tx settings in FS One. The
FS One Transmitter Editor has all the settings for dual rates and
expos. When you do things this way, then you don't need to use a zillion model
memories on your Futaba radio. Just one real Tx model memory will do
for getting the input into FS One, and then use whatever FS One Tx you
setup for each airplane. So in effect the FS One transmitters become
the "model memory". That's why there are so many transmitters in FS
One. Each one is a "model memory" for each specific airplane.
Let me know if this concept above is not clear.

Thanks Michael,
I'll go back and recalibrate and change to axis 2.
As far as the MS game calibration, should my sticks be working the crosshair up and down and left and right normally or does that matter?

All that matters is that you set the Axes in FS One to drive the appropriate servos. It's sort of like plugging in servos to a receiver, except in this case you're swapping around the axes to drive the servos.
What you're going to see is that when your Futaba radio is plugged into the FS One USB Interface, then the Axis numbers will not change. In other words, the right stick (aileron) will always be Axis 4, and so on. If you write down the the aixs number for each function on your real Tx + FS One interface, then reassigning the axis assignments in FS One will be a lot easier next time.

Ok, Everythings moving like it's supposed to. I've flown the F90 and the Edge around a little and really like the way sim feels. I've got some new questions. (I don't know if I should keep asking here or in the big thread).
I made a copy of the F90 to change the weight, (mine is closer to 10lbs). When I choose the model to copy, the specs say it has a saito125 in it but when I open it up to edit, it says it has a 100 in it and only has the 180 as another option. Mine has a 120. I changed the weight only and saved. When I try to fly the model, it crashes to the desktop during loading.
Also the f5-f8 keys and the arrow keys (walk) don't seem to work.

griffin,
You're right about the engine name thing -- the Horizon guys thought it felt more like a 125, so we called it that in the blurb.
If you're in a Panorama, then the walk keys will not function since you cannot move around in a pano (no picture data for it). Only the F1-F4 keys will work because the other ones are for 3D fields. So I'm guessing that you were in a pano trying out the other keys.
ps We just became aware of a minor issue w/ the Saito 100 engine in the aircraft edit menu. If you end up picking the 100 engine and staying w/ that engine in the menu, then that editted plane won't fly -- to be solved w/ the next patch.

[Edit - I'll add that it's too bad the RC tx manufacturers did not decide on just one standard.
Here's a new FAQ that has more info on the cable side of things:
What adapter cables come with FS One? What adapter cables do I need? (Q1038-FS1, 11/1/06)
