ORIGINAL: mullenc525 Typically I get 50 FPS. After 1/2 hr of flying or so, this goes down to 20 FPS (to me it seems much less, it gets quite choppy, to the extent that 3D flight is scary) When it does this I switch planes and it goes back to 50 FPS for a while again. Other than the choppiness, everything else is fine (other than crashing). I have the latest video driver. My BIOS is from december 2006. I have the latest audio driver for my on board audio. Are you running a single display or multiple displays? We'll try to help you get this fixed, but it's going to be hard, given that you have what appears to be a good, capable system, you are getting slower than expected speeds combined with an continual slowdown. It sounds like the intereaction between system memory and video memory is not being handled properly by your graphics card and driver. It seems like it keeps consuming more system memory each time your run again and again. It does not do that under normal circumstances. So, let me know about my questions regarding antivirus, spyware, full system access, and displays, and we'll keep trying to get your issue addressed... |

ORIGINAL: MSelig ORIGINAL: israelg48 Michael, FSOne is the bomb--best thing out there. are you guys coming up with any more models any time soon? We're working on many new aircraft now. We'll be posting a "sneak peek" aircraft to the fsone site, but like I've said before we cannot promise a timeline at the moment. We also have some patches coming up in a couple of weeks. Michael I know you did not give any promises regarding the timing of the release of your sneak peek, but it would be nice to get a taste of what lies in store for us :-) |

I have Sophos anti-virus installed (free from the university) which runs continually. I have actually never heard of sophos before and have access to free Trend Micro PC-Cillin from work which is more mainstream so I will switch to that. I know PC-Cillin can be disabled if you are playing games etc, whereas sophos cannot.
I run a single LCD on DVI, 1440x900 so not too many pixels. Sophos apparently has anti-spyware functions, but maybe they are not so good as others? I may use the program available from microsoft. Also I am fairly sure PC-Cillin has built in anti-spyware also. Also I have heard of a program called enditall2 which apparently will end any processes on the computer other than what you are specifically running. Maybe I will try that as well. |

Development Updates
Patches -- Our next patch is scheduled for release no later than March 23. Other patches will follow, and we're going to strive for more frequent smaller patches rather than less frequent larger patches. It's clear at this point that users prefer the "more patches" approach, so that's what we'll try to do. Feedback -- We can adapt our focus of which issues we address first, based on user feedback. So, at the risk of being blasted by harsh criticism, please let us know which bugs/issues are the most critical to fix. We will do our best to move these reported issues up in priority of the "to do" list. More Models -- More models are indeed being developed and have been for months. You want more models, and we want to give them to you -- we definitely have a common goal. But we want our new models to continue to be high quality and do not want to rush them out -- quality must be maintained -- and it does take time to create high-quality models. Please realize that it involves the work of many modelers, developers, and engineers and it takes time. We really appreciate our "early adopters" that were willing to give our product a try. We have been busy with many topics behind the scenes have not forgotten you. More patches and other improvements are in the queue. Now, let us know what you'd like to see -- which bugs need urgent fixing, which new features would you like to see, etc. We're listening... |

Hi Brian,
I just got my copy of FS One this week, loaded it yesterday and haven't had too much trouble getting it to run with my Futaba T7, thanks to the patches and advice I have read here and elsewhere. I'm getting some kind of weird crashing of my computer with certain planes and I'll try to work thru some of the suggestions you and Michael have given others. I'll come back to you on that if I can't fix it but I wanted to say that I made my selection of FS One mostly from what I have seen here and at RCG. It's a bit of a leap of faith at this point (all I've seen running in stores is G3.5) but, to me, the feedback, support and attentiveness that you guys show thru this forum, and others, demonstrates your desire to make things right. That's all we can ask for. As a noob to the whole RC thing, having some insight to the physics, I appreciate that the inner workings of this thing must be pretty complicated and it's bound to take a little while before the bugs are sorted out. No doubt the competition's is similarly complicated but the differentiator is the ability to 'speak' with you guys directly and to have you respond to queries, concerns and preferences. If the FAQ about pano sites is an indication of your philosophy, it looks like you'll also be open to allowing users to create and share some of the visual aspects. This is great for us because it helps leverage the development of things that appeal to various users. Anyways, keep up the good work... and keep those patches coming! Thanks, Dave |

RE: FS one by Horizon Hobbies
Hi Brian,
No worries. Thanks for the offer but I figured things out this morning, just by re-reading the FAQ's and other people's problems here. It turns out that my crashing was due to the Realtek HD Audio hardware acceleration bug that others have reported. I got rid of the crashes by loading the latest driver and by turning the acceleration down from the max. I'm not sure what those settings do for anybody because it doesn't seem to change abnything other than stop the computer from crashing. After that things have run great and I'm on to learning how to fly. At this point I'd say I'm pretty happy with the way this stuff has worked out. I know where to find you when I have issues. Thanks, Dave |

Fantastic program that is now an expensive paperweight. USB Controller faulty. Distributor response ..."Can't happen"..."It would be a first".
Bought in November...updated to 1.0.4....worked great until early Feb then intermittent operations with onscreen message to maintain USB connection. Reinstalled the program, same problem....intermittent. Installed on my laptop.....same intermittent problem. When this happens even Microsoft (Control Panel/Game Controllers) said no USB. USB required to remain connected message onscreen. Attempt to calibrate achieves no response with random numbers on control channel icons (sometimes, not always). Distributor will not even sell me a new USB controller but will of course sell me a complete package for A$225. Very impressed with the program, but only when it works. P.S. Computer above specs, no programs running in background. USB Controller sits on large desk with USB and other connections fed to a platform between desk and the wall so floor traffic etc not an issue. Unit is unmarked. Conclusion is simple....the USB is faulty. A USB controller replacement ....even if I have to pay....would solve the problem. |

Re: USB Controller USB Controller is plugged directly not via a hub. FS One: Error message onscreen re USB not connected. Microsoft Control Panel/Game Controller: Listed as installed but when "Properties" clicked error message saying "not connected to computer..." Deleted from desktop computer and installed on laptop....problem continues. Full installation including 1.0.4 patch back to desktop computer....problem continues. No peripherals connected. No programs running in background. No conflicts in Microsoft Device Manager Restore Points used for period when program operated normally....problem continues. The FS One program thinks there is no USB controller connected and MS Game Controllers agrees. The point is this program operated normally with no issues from delivery sometime in November to early February. Proof of Purchase showing 07 November payment to joeshobbybarnonline for delivery in my name to my home address emailed on request. |

Dear Brian,
I would like to see a printed instruction manual. There are to many capabilities offered by the program that get lost which are actually a positive aspect of FSOne. People get in trouble and have a negative reaction to FSOne only because they don'y know how to navagate their way out. You may want to offer this manual as a printable download with update sheets thereafter. ALSO, .... would appreciate your responding to my questions in Post #679 Thank You, ................... Gene |
RE: FS one by Horizon Hobbies
ORIGINAL: eyecare Dear Micheal or Brian, (InertiaSoft) @ Questions A) When flying Hanger 9 Aircraft at my field, the glide slope and landings seems reasonable and workable. With the sim, reducing power for landing seems to drop the nose excessivly, also, the landing approaching with sim aircraft seem to want to wander (fishtail) all over the runway without any stick input.. I used C-182, Funtastic90, Edge 540. I fly the sim on low rates. B) How do you control the idle from the Tx edit and how can you shut down the engine fromthe TX. .................. Thank You Gene I flew the C182 in the sim to see if I could replicate what you're describing. When I back off on throttle on the C182 the nose drops, and I need to apply up elevator as the airplane slows down. This elevator trim change is expected. If I instead trim out for idle glide, then when I add power, the airplane climbs and I need to apply down elevator to keep it level. If the amount of up/down elevator that you need for trimming like this is more than you're expecting, then it's a function of the c.g. position. If you move the c.g. back (in the airplane editor), then the amount of stick input required will be reduced and maybe more like you're expecting from your own experience/airplane setups. The part about "wander (fishtail) all over the runway" is not something I can replicate w/ my setup. At the Frasca field w/ the C182 airplane, when I add throttle, the airplane tracks straight (no wandering). Is there a specific case that you can describe? I wonder if something is weird w/ your controller. Press 'e' when your flying to see if the stick input (in the sim) corresponds w/ your stick input (w/ the TacCon controller). For now the airplane engines can be killed w/ the 'k' key when the stick is in the idle position. Trying to make this work from the Tx is something we can think about doing, but having the PC as the "middleman" to the airplane makes this tricky and frankly we don't have a good approach to doing this, hence the 'k' key. I know what you're talking about ... say, setting the trim to neutral, and then when pushing the trim all the way down the engine kills. We are thinking about it. Michael |

RE: FS one by Horizon Hobbies
I uninstalled Sophos and installled PC-Cillin. I had no viruses or spyware per PC-Cillin or Sophos.
I am still getting 30-50 FPS, which actually looks fine, though I am still crashing. I noticed Albatross' post regarding Realtek sound drivers. The driver for my mobo is Realtek, and comes from 2005, though there is no newer version available that I know of (I checked on ASUS). I am going to try disabling on board sound in my BIOS to see if that will fix the problem, in which case I can just buy a sound card. |
RE: FS one by Horizon Hobbies
Disabling on board sound has allowed me to fly the funtana 40 for example which caused me to crash instantly before. The FPS has not changed on the other aircraft.
Now there is another problem though. When I attempt to fly a heli, I press Fly, the sim pauses for a moment as if beginning to load, then the aircraft continues spinning around in 3D view etc. as if I had not done anything. When I attempted to fly a training session, it began loading but then returned to the pre-flight menu before loading. It did not crash my computer or the program, but these flights just would not load. Interestingly I could load the training sessions before disabling on board sound, but they would just crash as soon as I began. |
RE: FS one by Horizon Hobbies
I have only used FSOne for a short period of time, but so far I really like it. The airplanes do what I think they should do given a certain stick input. Just like in real life, when I over control the airplane it does things that get me in trouble!
My only other sim experience comes with G2. In my opinion (and that's all anybody can offer) FSOne is far superior in flight performance. The only thing from G2 that I would like to see come over to FSOne are some of the fun fly games, like the limbo flying and spot landing. Those are things that we do at our club picnic every year and are a lot of fun. I have read through all 29 pages of this post and there are a lot of people who say one sim is more realistic than another, but it all comes down to personal opinion based on setup. And with FSOne there seems to be plenty of options in the program to change not only the airplanes physical cahracteristics, but all the servos throws, prop & engine characteristics (as well as choosing standard sizes and brands), and transmitter characteristics (rates, expo). If you don't think the airplane flies like your own, take some measurement from your 'real' airplane and change the setup. From what I have seen, this is a very capable sim (that's not saying the other sims aren't, just saying that this one IS). I have been flying RC (off and on) for 20 years and have flown many different types of airplanes. In all the flying I have done, I have never flown '3D' (successfully). I truly believe this sim is more than capable of helping me learn (which is the reason I bought it, to learn 3D flying). To all the FSOne folks that have been monitoring this forum, thanks for staying involved and helping everyone out. That is one of the reasons I purchased this sim. Happy Landings! FWIW, my installation and patch updates went without a hitch. Everything has preformed exactly like the FSOne guys have said it should. I am running an AMD Athon 2400, 512mb Ram, GForce 5500 128mb AGP video card, motherboard integrated sound card, and Windows XP Home Edition on my 3+ year old HP desktop computer. I also agree with the comments about a written instruction manual. That would be very helpful. |
RE: FS one by Horizon Hobbies
I have a question about the Autozoom. Does it work at all the fields?
I have tried pressing 'A' on the keyboard and I see that I can turn it off or on, but turning it off does not seem to make any difference. I have only flown in the 2 default views so far (F1 and F2 keys), is there a different camera view that I need to use for autozoom? Or is there a way to 'turn up' the autozoom so that it is more effective? With my tiny montior it is very tough to fly 2 mistakes high and see what the airplane is doing. Of course, since it is only a computer maybe I should get used to flying zero mistakes high. If I do that I am sure to get lots of take-off practice!! |
