Default Blade tracking problems

I own a venture 50 with original blades and have just come to balance them but seem to need an extreme amount of weight on one to get the spanwise cg correct but then have to add more to the other side for final static balancing.this seems far too much for my liking or is this normal. if i weigh the blades seperatly they are exactly the same with no tape on them (116g).so why should the balnce be so far out?
any help would be good help

If your blade cg's are that far off from each other I'd return them and get a new set. Did you get this heli used or as a package deal? The Venture 50 doesn't come with any blades unless you guys in Australia get them with the kit. If it was used either balance them or get new ones (if you feel it takes way to much weight I'd buy a new set). If it was a package deal depending on where you got the blades from a lot of dealers will exchange them with no problem.

Hi , i unfortunately bought this whole package on ebay (brand new) so i dont stand a chance of getting replacement ones FOC so i guess i'll buy some new ones.
thanks for your help.
also i did actually fit them with half a roll of track tape on them and fire up the heli to see if it was ok but the heli was seesawing at slow rotor speed is this normal or is too much weight causing some sort of centrifugal problem ? this is my first heli and i am so eager to get it off the ground with everything running as smooth possible.[sm=confused.gif]

Half a roll? Seriously? A brand new roll? Order a new set (or two). The seesawing will happen until the blades have slipped to the right position in the grips via centrifugal force from the head spinning (one leads a little), spin em up slowly but spin them up enough to straighten them out, if you still get it then you still have balance issues with the blades or the blades are too tight in the grips. What balancer are you using? Do the blades look damaged? Have you tried it without tape on them? If you got wooden blades on that thing replace them with carbon and you'll find the balance to be way better!

Half a roll![sm=eek.gif] Wow I'd definitely get a new set. As xanadu_vector said make sure the blades are not to tight in the grips. The easiest way to set your blade grip tension is to turn the heli on its side. Tighten your grips till its just to the point that the blades won't fall under their own weight but will move easy by pushing the tip of the blade with one finger. If you got the money to spend I'd buy a set of carbon or glass. Since this is your first heli and if you haven't got an instructor or a lot of sim time get wood blades they are a lot easier on the wallet if you plant them. If after you get the balance on and make sure you got your grip tension set right you still have problems with the blades, the weights in the blade are probably positioned way off from each other. That being the case toss them in the can (If they were mine I'd toss the anyway).

Thanks for the advice guys, yes nearly half a roll in the end i went to a local car stripe guy to get some thicker tape, so it doesn't look half as bad.
Having said that i will take your advice and go for some carbon ones and just keep practising on the sim.
Thanks again will let you know the outcome with hopefully, no bad crashes.

One other point about your "see-sawing".... Might as well wait till you get the new blades to find out, but if the blades were that far off, and your getting that vibration, and you bought it off ebay (ack!), chances are probably good that at least your feathering shaft is bent too, perhaps even the main shaft.... Try starting it up and spinning the head (NOT REAL FAST!!!) without the blades installed... If it's shaking and vibrating then the main shaft is probably bent too... If the main shaft is bent I can pretty much guarentee you the feathering shaft is too... Even if the main is okay, probably not a bad idea to replace the feathering shaft anyway...

JR calls it a Spindle Shaft. Its the metal shaft that holds the blade grips on the rotor head. With the blades off look inside the grip, you'll see a nut, that nut is threaded onto the spindle shaft. If then heli was brand new chances are its not bent. You can look at the space between the blade grips and the yoke with the blades off you should have an even space all the way around if its not bent. You can also with the blades off just spin the main rotor by hand and look down at the head button and see if it looks like its wobbling. These checks will let you know if there is a real bad bend but if there is only a very slight one you might not be able too see it this way. If you think that either might be bent pull them out and roll them on a smooth surface. Again if like you say this is a band new heli its very unlikely either is bent unless the heli was dropped or damaged in shipping.

Jay, If you have'nt already seen this site it has a ton of useful info....http://www.raptortechnique.com/ I entered this hobby solo and for about 6 months only had the internet to learn from until I met some local heli guys. Hope it helps..

If it's a brand new heli (like advertised) and it is a shaft and not a blade problem I'd personally do whatever it takes to leave negative feedback and then some. There's no way a "brand new" heli has a bent shaft. It would have to be a crashed heli with replacement parts and someone who obviously has no idea selling it or someone who just don’t care. Either that or the blades are so far out of spec they require ½ roll of tape which in itself is highly unlikely. Personally I'd re-check everything starting with blade grip tension, then static and dynamic blade balance then pull shafts out and roll on a flat surface to see if they're bent. Write it off as a not so fun learing experience...

Thanks guys for all your help and thankfully it was just the blades,i did as you told me and started it up without the blades on and she sat as steady as a rock so new blades are on the way.
i did manage to balance the old (new) ones and yes with nearly half a roll of tape jsut so i could have a bt of a fly today (sunday)
But to my horror after ten minutes of hovering and feeling pretty pleased with my progress the new servo that i bought for the tail rotor SH** itself (PRETTY SCARY MOMENT FOR ME THE NOVICE) so now have to wait for replacement before the bird is back up to hover height.
Thanks again guys
Jay
