Default Blade covering problems!

I have a Raptor 30 and the plastic covering on the blades is comming off. Could I recover them in monokote or paint them or is there another solution? They are somewhat new and have only been in 2 or 3 flights so I would hate to have to get rid of them.

Thanks for the help.

If you can hover spend the 35.00 for a set of fiber glass SAB blades. Mono can work but your better off with a heat shrink tube, hobbico sells them or any on-line store to.

Default R30 Blade covering

You can also get K&S of Japan (KSJ) heat shrink blade (white and clear) heat shrink covering with shaped and sealed tips for only about $3.00 and recover them. I use steam to shrink it.

What's wrong with Monokote?

The edges don't hold very well and if installed on the wrong edge the mono will start to peel off.

That's what's wrong with the shrink wrap blades for me. The tips where the material is melted together comes undone then the whole tip peels off. I'm gona try it, what do I have to loose? (besides my Nexus?)

I used to monokote all my blades before I started using glass, many moons ago. Just do the top first, leaving about 1/4 inch to over lap the bottom, then wrap that 1/4 inch around the trailing edge and on the bottom. Then the rest around the leading edge and cut even with the Trailing edge, making sure it has at least the 1/4 inch over lap. Make sure it is all on tight and do it only in 1 piece, not 2. It works well and holds up better than the heat shrink stuff.

All:

I stopped using covering on wood blades. One coat of clear butyrate dope, sand them smooth put contrasting color tape on the ends, another coat of butyrate to seal the tape, and balance, both static and dynamic. The give them a couple more coats, varying the thickness to get the final balance.

One or two rotors, gotta have twin motors.

Bill.

Regular heat shrink films don't work well or last long. Ultracote Plus and other sticky backed films like it work the best. Heli-world sells heat shrink slip on blade covering for 30 + 60 size blades for about $3 per package. You need to seal the ends with heat and then shrink the rest of the covering to fit the blades. A few drops of CA on the ends will help keep them sealed OR you can finish the blades with a fuel proof paint and forget about covering them OR spend more money for glass or carbon blades (ouch).
