Had the first startup/run on the engine today……….

That's quite something else then an P-20 hallelujah very impressive.

Startup went with not an single hick up or anything strange, just flick the switch, throttle up and down and of it went no problem at all, very nice!!

Now on to the last bit's and pieces and the most scary part, glueing the canopy in the frame…...

You also need opposite aileron to rudder about 4-5%, so left aileron with right rudder and vice versa.

Are you saying an aileron to rudder mix for turns or a rudder to aileron mix for knife edge?

Go and get you a bunch of magnets (I use the discs that are about 1/2" diameter and also small 1/4" dia) to hold the canopy in the frame. Rough up the edges if the canopy that will be glued and get some formula 560 canopy glue. Take your time and use the glue sparingly so it doesn't ooze everywhere when the magnets are reapplied. Sounds tough but it's actually pretty easy if you take your time.

Rudder to aileron for KE. Takes the very small opposite roll out.

That's the opposite to normal aileron differential, are you saying that the UF has more drag on the up going aileron that the down going aileron.

Mike
Has nothing to do with drag, the surfaces are hinged at the top skin, so the downward travel needs to be bigger to have equal travel.

It is actually a bit of both,as a result of the forces, but as Thomas says its because the aileron cord goes into the wing on the down going, so it needs more down going movement to compensate for this and equal the effect. When its not in you can see the yaw input when rolling, it wags its tail rather than following perfectly. I could see this on dubd's video.

Nice smoke , I am just about finishing my UF , One small question could you please post your smoke tank set up . I have a n idea but not quite sure , is there a vent line? . is it messy and are you injecting the oil behind the turbine or to the back end of the tube.

Thanks very much
Paul

Hi Paul,

I'm using the wing tank as smoke tank, the nozzle is directly behind the turbine, there is an vent line from the wing tank and yes it is Messy!!

dave, are you saying to put 4-5% rudder towards the upward aileron ?, and does it need any elevator to rudder mix for knife edge ?
jonathan.

jonathan.

I asked the same thing. I think the way Dave worded it made it sound like rudder with aileron but he meant oposite aileron with rudder on knife edge.

Sorry, just back from Germany. Opposite to rudder, so left rudder, right aileron and right rudder left aileron. No elevator with my 230mm balance.

Hi All.

I am building a UF for a friend and have a question about servo arms (apologise if this has been discussed in this thread already).

I always use Hitec servos on my planes. They come with heavy duty arms as standard.
My friend has provided me with JR8411 and Futaba BLS172HS servos. Are the standard arms that come with these strong enough for the UF or should I be ordering HD ones for these servos?

Regards,

Paul.

Don't use the std white JR arm...Super Servo arms as shown in the Flash manual, 46015 part No
Would't use the Futaba arm either as they are brittle. Guess Dubro HD arms?

Thanks for the info Dave.

I will make sure I get heavy duty arms for both servos.

Paul.

Hello every one,

Fancied one of these for straight flying neutral sport machine, so when the fly navy colours scheme came along off i popped to see Dave and bagged one. Its the first jet I've built myself (still building) and all is going very well so far. Donkey is a 100RX and pretty much going for the standard set up with servo choice and retracts. Ive taken millions of photos as a record, something i do with all my projects and hope you enjoy having a look. Word on the street is this baby flys a treat ? What C/G are you guys using ? I will almost certainly go with what ever the book says but what i really want is next to no elevator for inverted
flight
