Dale I blacked out my canopy using black lexan paint used for RC car bodies. For best results Spray several light coats instead of one heavy one. Ron

Dave, what / how do you black out the canopy. Do you use a spry on tint ?
Thanks
Dale

That one is RC Car Colours smoke tint. I also use Pactra smoke.

Dave,
It looks like your slow passes are with full flaps?

Always!? Even landing in a gale you should use max drag. My flaps are on a three pos switch and that is landing setting. This day was rough air because of trees and 10' shear edge each end, but the UF allows walking pace passes all day

Hi Dave,

The covers look straight, but viewed from the front they are at a slight angle against the airflow, thats the only reason i can think of the mains not retracting consistently. I use the BVM high flow valve with dreamworks retracts and struts which i bought from you. No restrictors used in the system. On the ground the gear retracts consistently. Could it be any other reason you can think off.

Chattty.

The CF covers should not affect the gear going away as the covers are straight. I have no bad tendancies with the nose door on my UF, as the landing shot shows in Aberdeen it floats in. All three UF models I have flown are the same. On the C-36 in both my CF and UF I only have 85psi.

Guess its the angled out covers, are you quite late getting the gear away? The CF is going way faster than the UF at rotation. put a 6mm packer under the nose unit to get a slight angle of attack and you will rotate earlier and slower and that will help.
Only know Behotec gear in the Flash series, really, really fine gear!

The manual will tell you that the max thickness for the servos in the horizontal stab is 19mm. I think Dave Wilshere will tell you that you can take out a little of the 'foam' in the stab if needed, but I just went with the 8411s and had no problem. I think your other servos are fine. I used digitals in the flaps and they hum in the up position, okay at half and full flap.
Regards,
Gus
Nope! the foam is already removed and the outer skin is the top! 8411 is as deep as will fit.
You can use 8611 in other places, but it was designed for 19mm servos. I use 8411 and 8321 servos and would always, always, always use Digitals on Flaps, it's probably the most important control for it (just ahead of the Rudder) You will get variable flap amounts with std analogue servos and their lack of holding power! The whole point in digitals is the holding power, so they have FLAP written all over it! My UF with Digitals on everything except nose steering and retract valve uses 110mAh per pack (two on a Sensor switch) for a 9 minute mixed flight like the early video on here.

Dave
I'm waiting for my UF to be delivered, and planning servos. I want to use Futaba brushless, but geez... 19mm on the elevators, and Futaba's are 13/16" (20.6mm). Is there ANY tolerence in the 19mm? Anyone have any experience with fitting Futaba servos in the tail? If I have to I'll use 8411's I will, but I'd like to keep it all Futaba if I can.

Thanks guys!

Colin

Depends on servo case length, you'll struggle I think. Anything over 39mm is really tight.

Thanks Dave,

I didn't realise length would be an issue too. It looks like the Futaba misses out by 1mm in thickness, and 1mm in length. Sounds pretty close, but often "close" doesn't cut it. I might wait until the kit turns up and test fit one to see.

I'd be very interested to hear though if anyone has already tried Futaba servos in the tail.

Cheers,
Colin

I have Futuba 9156's in My Original Flash.
From what I remember I did not have to really do anything to get them in.

My flash is done but I'm way tail heavy at 220mm. I got all my equipment where it is shown in the manual. Where are you guys flying, closer to 225mm?

Thanks
Albert

My UF was initially very tail heavy, but discovered that I had some fuel in the fuselage tank. Took that out and balanced with UAT full, gear down, ECU and receiver batteries forward in the nose 'pockets' and the CG was fine. This is with a P-120.
Regards,
Gus
PS I should add that (although I can't remember the exact location - 220mm?), it balanced per the addendum Dave Wilshere wrote on the C-ARF UF site.

The threaded rod should be approximately 50mm long and a good starting point for the push rod centres would be 75mm. This is centre of ball link to clevis pin.
The aileron pushrods need to be approximately 60mm long with 86mm centres. Both figures based on JR 8411 servos.
The flap settings for the Ultra Flash are:
Take off 25-28mm (1-1 1/8â€). Landing 95-100mm (3 ¾†to 4â€) both figures measured at the root, trailing edge of each flap.
The Ultra Flash requires down elevator with flap. Take off 1mm and Landing 4mm measured at the elevator trailing edge tip. Exact figures will be affected by balance position.
Balance point, gear up 220-225mm back from the wing/fuselage joint.

Normal!

Anyway, model will carry a ton of weight if needed. My model has around 3 oz of weight. Exact equipment weight, battery type and weight all affects things. My ECU pack is 5200 Mah...

Back on the P-80SE project after a couple of trips away. Wood work sealed with ZAP 40 and primed. (I'm also doing a set for a friend also building an UF. Fuselage insides painted light grey.

I misspoke, my UF was balanced gear up, UAT full. Again, it was tail heavy until I realized I had some fuel in the fuselage tank, took it out, then okay.
