No actually I want a real jet. I would actually rather gas since I am planning on a baja and gas just seems better. Do they make around 1/5 scale gas jet planes?

You're looking for a nitro/glow engine ducted fan airplane??... or a gasoline powered 'jet' plane?

Basically a jet plane that runs off some type of fuel. I've seen proper gas jets so I guess someone makes them.

Be advised, they're not very popular and it's not very reliable form of propulsion.

Glow fuel ducted fan 'jets' can be very fickle in terms of tuning, unless you know exactly what you're doing ... They are about as popular as 8-Track tape players. j/k

Do they make real jets though? Ducted fan isn't really what I want it's just an internal fan. Gas would be better as I said and I have seen mini jets but they were a bit large.

Most of us are flying gas turbines, in other words, miniature turbine engines. But if you're having trouble finding information about turbines in this forum, that just tells me you haven't bothered to read anything.

If you are looking for something that is gasoline powered, then no, jet engines do not run on gasoline, they run on jet fuel, kerosene etc.
There are tons of manufactures of turbine engines these days and many many many choices of airplanes and manufactures.

So yes, there are real jets, you can buy turbine engines anywhere from 5lbs of thrust to 60lbs of thrust.

I wast looking on an rc forum I noticed it on a Cnc forum except the home made ones were too large. I don't visit here much im more into cars. I didnt realize turbines ran on kerosene but that sounds good. Now obviously by now you figured out I'm new to this so what would you suggest as a beginner one? I live on a farm so bug places to take of and land and plenty of room to fly. I know jets are hard to land because you have to be going fast but as long as parts are readily available I dont see much of a difference wether I break a jet or a high wing. Thanks for that link and your help.

Take it or leave it, but my tip to you is you should learn how to fly a common propeller airplane first.

Seems like they're giving up on you here. The bottom line is that learning on a high wing prop plane will cost you a few hundred to start and you can get back in the air for much less after a crash. Starting out with a turbine will cost you at a minimum about $3000.00 and anything more than a bad landing may cost you a few hundred to a few thousand to get back in the air.

Well that sucks. I want to stick with gas though so what would you suggest as a nice starting point that can keep for a while even when I'm good.

Go to your local RC club and make some friends, and get started on a trainer...you have to learn to walk before you can run.
Full scale fighter pilots had to learn to fly a trainer first....so do you.

We don't have a local rcclub. Completely random question but would just be cool to try once. You know how in the army the air drop humvees while moving. Could you do that with a rc plane and a savage? Would look so cool.

You are right about one thing. Flying model jets is very cool. But you have to learn the basics first, usually with a prop plane

You can learn the basics, in one of two ways, easy or hard.

The easy way is to join a club and lean with proper instruction from people who have a wealth of experience in RC planes, and know how to teach you.

The hard way is to do it alone. It is possible, but most people who go this route get so frustrated at constantly crashing, they just give up.

I note you are in Warragul, There are a few clubs on the eastern side of Melbourne and I suggest you check one of them out. Got to http://www.vmaa.com.au/site/ .From this site you can search for clubs in your area.

I can't drive to go anywhere. Dad used to fly them years ago so he can give me a hand but I won't give up. I'll have a look at those Troy jets once I finished rebuilding my truck.
