Default RE: Futura 2.5M in BMW Williams scheme

ORIGINAL: Carsten Groen

I have been looking at the large Futura from Tomahawk the last two years at JetPower, the first year I put my eyes on it, well, I didn't think it looked too nice....
The colors it was presented in didn't exactly fit my taste

So, when Ali and Duncan did the first ones in Vinyl (Martini and Audi scheme), I loved it! Suddenly the plane looked very nice, and I ordered one at JetPower last year.
My plan was to cover it myself, just doing some simple stripes etc etc. However, I discovered that there were talk of some BMW motorsports scheme, and talking a little with Ali and Duncan, my plane took a detour on the route from Germany to Denmark, and is currently in the talented hands of Duncan ! Duncan has sent me some pictures of the plane, and I'm a VERY happy man now I think it looks very nice!

PS: Thanks Ali and Duncan for doing this, you guys are some of the best [8D]

You can own the jet and a part of the team as well. Williams is the only F1 team on the stock market now. They won't be a front runner in 2011 though. Leave all that to McLaren, R Bull and the Ferrari boys

Cool paint scheme though. I would like to do a Renault scheme sometime. I like the yellow and black.

Agreed. Ali did mention something about a Riszla scheme, although most of the bikes are based on a colour other than White. It definitely something I'll look out, cheers

Plane has arrived, and Marc was right, it's even nicer in "real life" than on the photos!
The quality of the plane is outstanding, very nice indeed!

I think I'm going to use some Behotec C50 retracts for the plane (C50F for the front), I'm not sure I like the "original one" from Tomahawk too much...any thoughts from you guys that uses them ??

Hi Carsten,

Tomahawk supplies the gear from Airtech germany, a friend of mine has the futura with this gear. The quality is fantastic, you will not be disappointed.

Chatty.

Thanks Chatty,
I know that it would be soo easy "just" to mount the original ones, and I might even go that route.
Not fully decided yet.

Duncan mentioned if I had found his hidden logo on my Futura, I looked and looked (even my wife did), but it was only yesterday I actually discovered it

I told you it was subtle

How long do you think it will take to build?

Yes, it's almost "stealth" [8D]
Hmm, building, I don't know, but the Buildstage 3 is no big deal, I was afraid that it would take "forever" to do the steps, but at Euro 600,- even I can keep a decent "hour rate"
I think even Mark managed to build his the first one in a "few" days, so can't be too long
Jokes aside, I think a couple of weeks, when the "buildstage 3" steps have been completed, I think is is almost the same as Ali 1.9m build thread.
One thing is sure, there is PLENTY room inside the plane !

Ahh, knew you had subscribed to this thread
It's a wondeful plane, extreme nice quality all over (mine was missing two of the horns for the surfaces, but other than that, all is fine), just completed the canopy fixing, a piece of cake, thanks to Ali's thread on the 1.9m !

cool, hope you did a better job of aligning the canopy than Mark did

did the vinyl line up ok after it was fixed in place?

Hmm, I bet Mark will comment on that
Yes, about the lining up on the letters on the canopy, that was my biggest fear, 1/2 mm, and it would scream at me! But it was actually very easy to align it, I did the trick with 4 bolts thru the top, resting on the fuse, and marked the locations. 30 minutes later, the slots were cut for the boltheads, perfect fit !

excellent, well done mate. I was worried about that, for the reason you mention about the RBS text.

It aligned perfectly before you started breaking bits off it LOL

Actually, if I'm completely ana. on the canopy, it is as if the "lip" of the canopy is resting on the front a little, so that the first 1/3 of it has a little air between it and the fuselage. Maybe it's possible to remove some material on the edge of the fuse at that point, lowering the lip of the canopy a little, and take out some of the space between it and the fuse (maybe 1.5mm or so)
Duncan, did you include a small piece of the "canopy black" vinyl also ? (didn't check)

Yep there should be some there. I put a few pieces of each colour in for you. If you can't find it, let me know and i'll put some in the post.

Yours aligned really well at the front, the black of the canopy helps to loose any small gaps

I'm about to paint the internals of my Futura, I'm planning for a primer first, and then some nice stuff on top of that
I have some "Plasti-Kote" metal primer, covers nicely etc. but I was thinking if it has any "bad" influence on 2.4G ? It has some corrosion resistance, and I was wondering if there are any metal particles in it....the can says nottin about that......

Any clue ? Should I just go ahead with it ?

Carsten,

I had a chat with someone the other day who was mentioning the latest fad of painting internals with the 'speckled' paint. He works in the coating industry and explained that, quite often, these paints are created by using heavier metal flakes to force the 'paint' to separate. This means we're spraying millions of little metal flakes in the fuselage.

Now, the one and only time I have ever had a suspected RF issue was with my Futura that was fully coated internally with speckle paint.

Not sure if it's a coincidence or an issue or not - just passing on the info.

For my current Futura, I've stuck to standard grey primer.

Rgds,
Mark

Hi Jeremy,
I'm on Weatronic on all my planes

I have some pictures of my progress, I have a build thread on our Danish jetforum: http://jetdanmark.dk/e107_plugins/fo...topic.php?6811
It's in, tadaaa, Danish so you might not understand what is written there, but the pictures are universal

Well Carsten, this forum in danish langage is quite...interresting... to read...

Out of subject : I've seen on your canopy a former : is it your addition or was it on your canopy from factory ? There is not such a part on my Futura (molded juste before Jet Power 2010, basic kit)

Nhalyn,
oh no, the Danish language is very easy, we have kids here at the age of 2 that understands most of it, so must be quite easy
Anyway, the former for the canopy was included with my kit, I did not see it on the pictures that followed the plane, but it fit perfectly in the canopy, so I assumed that was where it should be
