RE: Skymaster Mig29 with P200
A few more pics of the progress, the install is coming along nicely. I started to strip and repaint the exhaust cones last night. The old paint was never clear coated so it was chipping and scraping off. I got the base coat down and will be doing the second color hopefully tonight. I wont be spending too much time on these but they should be done fairly quickly. Enjoy!

RE: Skymaster Mig29 with P200
A little more progress but not much, I am waiting on some parts to finish the air and fuel system installs. Most of the components are done and I have started repainting the tailcones in the meantime as they were heavily chipped and scratched. The first pic I posted of the full scale exhausts were for a different model and I have found one of the same scheme so I decided to go with that one as the example. I finished the second color on the tail feathers and am pretty pleased with it. I have also painted the forward sections but just haven't had time to snap a pic yet but I will do a little weathering on them and post a pic
The secondary color pops much more in the sunlight.

Is it possible to mount the EV5U valve under the cockpit? I don't want to remove the nose cone for every flight in order to see the air pressure.

RE: Skymaster Mig29 with P200
There is not enough room to move it. If I move it back under the cockpit then something else needs to go up front. I chose the EV5U for a few reasons, one the airlines head up there anyways and for maintenance it will make things easy to get at, two, it is easier to read and program since it is hard to reach inside the cockpit area since it is tight and third it is easier to access the fill valves which I was going to put right in front of the EV5U. Its not that hard to unscrew the pitot and remove the nose cone. Anything else we put up front will require more work of extensions and such (i.e. ECU, reciever....).
The exhaust cones are painted with the exception of a flat clear and maybe some weathering. We'll see what happens:

RE: Skymaster Mig29 with P200
Does anyone out there (Skymaster Reps ??) know if Skymaster sells a rebuild kit for the hydraulic struts for the Mig? These seem to be leaking and I am not sure if it is the fill valve or the seals between the upper and lower portions.

Couldn't you just run some BVM air pressure valves and put them in a visible spot? Not as cool as the digital read out, but it would negate having to pop the nose all the time.
Thanks for doing this build thread, this plane is going to be my winter project.

RE: Skymaster Mig29 with P200
Hey Ian,
Just a few issues i found with the install to keep in mind. Get everything as far back as you can for cg. Mine has nothing installed forward of the cockpit except for air tanks and my ECU battery is mounted on one of the main fuel tanks next to the turbine. I had to do it this way to achieve the correct cg without any lead in the tail. The reason being with the 200 and all that fuel on board even without lead its a super heavy bird. Although mine is a porker cause i have a powerbox royal, dual receivers and dual batteries. Not trying to sound like a know it all mate i just know that i would have appreciated that info when i was building mine instead of spending lots of time finding out for myself.
Kind Regards
Levi

RE: Skymaster Mig29 with P200
Well I spent half the day Saturday banging out the rest of the Mig and then Dantley came over and we finished off the CG and such. Sunday was maiden day and everything seemed to go pretty well, check it out:

The plane flies extremely well with the P-200. I put 4 flights on her yesterday. Very stable and lots of power for strong verticals.
Next time we'll have to take a proper video. Thanks Ian for the awesome build (as always).

RE: Skymaster Mig29 with P200
From what we heard the OVT is not strong enough for the 200. I believe someone melted the nozzles with the 200. It is not "tough" per say to fit the 200 just more of a challenge to get the plane to balance. We were lucky and were able to get away with adding NO additional weight to balance. So basically this P-200 mig is just about as light as you can get it. I did not have time to weigh it so we dont have the numbers on dry and wet but if Dantley gets saucy maybe he will post the numbers.

Hi ianober & Levi Wags.
I have a problem, I did not understand how to connect the rudder to the plane
If you have a picture that would really help
Thanks
jan

RE: Skymaster Mig29 with P200
Jan, the rudders are held on with a single 3mm bolt. What I did was to drill a hole on the bottom of the fuse under where the bolt goes so the ball wrench could be used. Once it is bolted down then you are set.

Thanks, I will wait for you (or anyone who has images that can help)
Another thing I do not find the way to lead the servo wires from the rudders into the plane [:@]

RE: Skymaster Mig29 with P200
I believe on Dantley's plane there were already holes drilled in the bulkheads (from former owners) to run the wires through. It is pretty much up to you as to how to run the wires Jan, just don't do any structural damage.

RE: Skymaster Mig29 with P200
Jan, to take a picture Dantley will have to remove the whole rear exhaust system on the plane and I don't know if he will be too hot on that idea. Just choose a place where you want to run the wires and grind or drill a little slot big enough through the rear bulkhead to fit the wires through. Run them away from anything producing heat or movement, its not that tough, just use your common sense. When building this plane the easiest thing you will come up against is routing the servo wires so you have some challenges ahead of you. I have posted quite a few pics to help and others (Levi) have added their expertise as well. Read the whole thread as well as Levi's and you will have more than enough info to complete your project. Good luck with the build, start a thread and post pics of your own, people will chime in with help.

Here's a video of my MiG from this weekend. The P-200 is PERFECT for this plane.
