Turnkey or Second Hand

I have just bought a Second hand jet which I consider to be imaculate and very well built indeed. I bought it for a very good price. While driving home with the jet I got to pondering:
1) A second hand jet complete can be very good, flown very little and about half the price of the constituent parts.
2) A Turnkey jet is very similar but flown less (Possibly) and generally costs over twice the cost of the constituent parts.
A factor of 4............................. Makes one think..................... What is the real difference
Off to the Nats now

Lol yea who knows my first jet was early this year, a Yellow F15 with and old AMT airstart, the complete package RTF minus TX and RX cost me a whopping $2000
Airframe and turbine were in great condition only had about 10 flights total then it just sat for a few years. I doubt I will ever find a deal like that again though.
Now I have a MBA Tornado with AMT 180, and a Tamjets f-16 that I will get a K80 for next week. (my first new turbine) I never thought I could afford turbine jets
but you just gotta be smart about it. There are some killer deals out there right now if you got the cash. I was thinking the other day Ill have 3 RTF jets
and less than $7500 total invested. Before I didnt even think i could get one for that price lol. Granted Im running old Air start engines but they work great!

here the difference in my mind.
Turnkey - All brand new items, no flight time, no run time. PERIOD
Second-Hand- most if not all items used. Flight time could range from 1 flight to 1,000 flights. Condition anywhere from excellent/brand new to "what the hell did i buy"

Guns have this problem also. "Never Fired, except test fired at the factory".
How can it be never fired when it's been fired?

Hi Dennis
Lots of great deals to be had on the second hand market especially in recent years. Plenty of crap too...
Can you just clarify what you mean by 'turnkey'? To me it's commissioning a build or do you mean going out and buying all the stuff from new and building it in your own time?
Cheers

I have to say I am not completely sure of what I mean by turnkey. It seems to be a term that has crept in over the last year or so.
We had and have: RTF, ARTF, KIT, Bits of sticks and a plan
etc now we have turnkey which I think is a complete model jet built and all set up and ready to turn the key or in our case push the stick forward, start and fly. This is basically a complete model with all the bits and truely ready to go..... and of course if built by you to an amazingly high standard.Oh we also of course have Bind and Fly which is a bit like turnkey I recon................... This is moving into the biger sizes as I have just ordered a 26 cc petrol Taylorcraft from the 'elf master'... How soon will it be before the companies do a bind and fly turbine jet perhaps with a P20 in it.

Regarding buying a restored car for $40,000, thought the point of the hobby was retoring it? I have friends that do and making a profit isn't even considered.

that is one big 262 in the background.

The 262 is Ali's It has 2 Jet Central Mamoths in it I think. It flew today after a few problems. Model was originally built by John Greenfield on the Ghost Squadron and later brought back to life by Ian Redshaw in the UK.

Dennis,
Did you press the "N" key by mistake
Most of your models are turkey they only come out once a year, something to do with you being a chicken
