Default REGULATORS TO JETS

i always used DURALITE regulators on ours jets, but, the guys of GIANT SCALE PLANES said that DURALITE not is a great and safe option, FROMECO and FLIGHPOWER are the best and more safe REGULATORS on the market, and they heard some crashs caused for DURALITE REGULATORS.
Does anyone had problem about it ?
We have 9 JETs, and, all mounted with DURALITE REGULATORS and THUNDER POWER / FLIGHPOWER LIPO or FROMECO LION.

Just my personal preference, skip the regulators! Use 2s A123 batteries and remove one more point of failure in your system. I like using 2 seperate 2S packs and isolating them with Schottky diodes just in case one cell goes bad (remote possibility). I have seen first hand a lost SM viper because of a burned up regulator. Just my 2 cents.

Stick with 6 v NiMh Batteries I believe is the best option for the receiver

I have had a number of Duralite regulators in helicopters (lot worse operating enviroments than jets) over the years and never had any issue with any of them.

That said, A123's unregulated is the best option, no need for diodes IMHO.

We have one jet with A123, is a great option, but, i have many DURALITE REGULATORS in stock, and, if the reliability is questionable, i change the REGULATORS for A123, this is the point.

I'm unclear why you're saying the reliability is questionable. Because you read it on the internet, or because you have hands on experience with a failure?

My doubts came after a conversation with the Brazilian champion freestyle and F3A (giant), and he is not sponsored by anyone.
Our JETS are BANDITS, BOBCAT, EUROSPORT, ULTRA FLASH and BOOMERANGS, and they are very expensive, and, the REGULATOR is an very low cost of total amount of a JET.

I have used duralite regulators in my jets without any problems. If you used duralites in your jets in the past without problems, why change? Stick with what works for you.

On the other hand, I agree with others as far as using A123s. No point of failure and direct plug into the RX.

Again, stay with what worked for you in the past.

Iv been using 6.6v life packs for a couple years now.
Safe to burry in the nose of jets and no regs needed..

Large scale planes use many large servos and pull very high amps. We use redundent lipos and regulators. HV servos will be a good path after a few years of development. I prefer to let others do the R&amp;D.<br type="_moz" />

Their was a time many years ago when people were using only 1 of them with a high loaded system. At that time I think they were rated a 5 amps. Now they are at 7.5 amps. I use 2 with ions and have had no problems for years. Dan

Never a problem with any of my Duralite regs.

Don't understand many peoples love affair with A123's; too heavy, too bulky, not enough capacity for me in most applications.

Besides the ability to do away with regulators, two words: discharge curve. There is no better/safer discharge curve than from A123's at this time.

Exactly what I thought!! Talk about voltage spikes to the low side!! This is also why I don't use A123 batteries, due to voltage spikes to the low side. Personlly my choice, and I use this set up in my 1/8 scale F-18, CARF Flash, CARF Viper, CARF Extra 2.6, and my 44% CARF Giles. Again, this is my personal choice that I have had great success over the last 6 years, provides constant 5.9-6V to the reciever with NO voltage spikes to the low side, as is a snap roll, or other high energy use manuever. I start with dual 7.4 2S lipo into a Fromco Wolverine dual switch(love them, due to they fail ON, and they draw each battery down equally) from the switch to dual Fromco Sahara regulators, with dual leads to the receiver. I have hundreds of flights on this type of set up on all of my planes.
