I purchased and installed the retracts (full set retracts, struts, wheels and brakes) that JP is now sells labeled specifically for this plane. They ARE NOT a drop in fit. The retract unit hole spacing is different and the angle of the trailing link is not the same. The wheel well needs to be moved about 3/8 of an inch forward. When I installed them I removed the plastic wheel well made the modifications and then used balsa and fiberglass to fill everything back in. Having said that it is worth it the new struts are smoother and more robust than the originals.

Dang that sounds like a lot of work. I just ordered the JP struts. I put the carbon fiber covering on which I think looks awesome.
It's funny you say they make it specifically for the plane but the description sure doesn't sound like it is.
What part of the strut is breaking, exactly? Do you have a picture?
And I agree, for $150 more for the plane they better be beefing them up.

So you're saying you have to reuse the springs or find new ones? Sorry I haven't even started on the struts so I haven't looked at them yet.

Mine is still on the box. Would love to remove all the covering, glass and paint. Very little difference in weight. It would be insignificant. But....... Pacific RC jets has one with the electric gear all for just a little more. I will list mine on RCGroups. Nothing sells on this site, I mean nothing! I sold all my stuff on that site in a week!

Picked up a new Phoenix BAE Hawk from Tower to replace the one I crashed. Completely different retracts also come with brakes this time and new control box. Struts appear to be different but not 100% sure. Wings are now set up for lights. More areas are fiberglassed ver V1.

I just got JP's struts for this. The springs and everything are all enclosed in the struts already. So I am really not sure why you would even have to reuse any springs at all?? Maybe JP updated their struts, but your posts are confusing me. Maybe they sent you the wrong struts originally??
