Default Hawk

Hi

I'm now on my third set of gear
The struts have a weak spot. Where the base of the scissor attaches to the bottom of the strut is super weak. It's threaded on, but the threads are very fine and very shallow, so even hitting the brakes at speed will break that junction. Not sure whether to JB weld then on the new struts or drill, tap and bolt it.

As for the small pipe, mine is fine with a K85. People are putting the pipes too deep into the bell, so an adjustment of that would help. This thing knife-edges superbly, but don't use the supplied rudder mount.

On the rudder mount, Are you talking about the hinges or the servo mount, I have just started on mine but I am not that far on the installation.

Have you installed batteries yet. I am getting ready for equipment installation, RX, Retract controller, Engine ECU and fuel pump, and wanted to get some Idea where the Batteries end up being located for balance.

Thanks

Hi,

I'm talking about the very flimsy rudder mount. That balsa-ish 'ply' they use is not at all up to the task. I made a new plate out of 3/32" real ply and hardwood blocks for mounts. I also reinforced the area the plate mounts to. Good-to-go now.

I did the Maiden flight on my Hawk. It flies great. Looks good in the air and no bad tendency's. I balanced it with the C/G rig that is in the kit. I also checked balance with a balancing stand and with a Xycoy C/G machine.

The rig that is in the kit along with the upside down balance method had the jet too noise heavy. My balancing stand and Xycoy showed this. I put the C/G on the recommended location for the stand and Xycoy and flew it with the balance point there. I marked the location of the C/G using the 2 plates that are in the kit mounted between the fuse and wing as shown in the instructions.

It does slowdown nice for landing and it is a floater on landing. Have fun with it.
I do have video and will try to get it on later.

Joe did you use any crow with flaps? Other videos indicate a hard snap if too slow on landing. Also did you use all the recommended throws?
Congrats on the maiden. It's been cold here in Ohio.

thanks. I set the Rates to the recommended but I also had a higher setting one the three position rate switch. Not sure what I ended up with as I only put 2 flights on it. I did not use any crow because my Maiden flight was with 18 MPH winds straight down the runway. I have a video on Goggle drive but not sure if I can put it here on RCU

Here is the link to the video. Was taken with a phone and it stopped recording right before the landing.

Put 5 more flights on the Hawk this pass weekend. It is a very stable jet and flies really well on the Kingtech K80.

I did the Maiden on mine this weekend plus 1 additional flight. Very nice flying plane. I have a JetCentral Super Bee II for power which is plenty. Pro Modeler servos Jeti TX and Rx.
I set it up a bit nose heavy but it handled very well .Each flap setting needed a little down elevator. I also added a couple mm of crow at full flap, landings were very nice and smooth.

Good to here Gary. Are you going to First in flight at the end of May?

Hi there, I just got a second hand Hawk that had a mishap on landing and requires retract replacement parts. Definitely those retracts are JP ones, but I checked with one supplier and they told me JP does not make retracts for this model. Tower Hobbies is currently out of stock and lead time is June 2021. Did you get yours from Tower Hobbies, or somewhere else? Let me know. Thanks

Hi,

I got mine from Tower. No, they're not JP. They're a knockoff. They're super weak, unfortunately. Just braking hard is enough to damage them. I hope I can find something suitable to replace them since I'm grounded right now

Just ordered mine with a $50 discount! Easy pay which is awesome on the pocket book. Will stuff mine with a JetCat P-120!

Sorry I'm new to turbines. Can you upload a picture of yours? What's an ideal setup for the pipe? I will be using a K85 as well. What alternative did you use for the rudder mount? And are 270oz torque servos enough for this plane? Thanks!

Jetcat P-120 is just to large, won’t fit. KT-85 or a JetCentral?

Kingtech K85-G4+.

Will the DS270 servos from ProModeler will be okay for this plane?

A 120 would be too much for this jet.

I have a K80 in mine and it flies great. As far as servos, If you look at the manual, it gives dimensions of servos needed. You would have to research the torque of a given servo dimension to fit it in the jet. With that said, here are the servos I used in mine.
MKS HV69 High Voltage Ultra Torque Digital Servo 141oz @ 8.4v .10/60deg
These where for the elevator, rudder and nose wheel steering. I had to modify the mounts which needed done any way to add some 1/8th inch ply. The rudder I made a mount in the vertical fin and used the servo mount they provided only as a cover as it was to flimsy as a mount.

MKS DS1210 Digital Standard Servo 138oz @ 6v .12/60deg
These where used in the wing on the ailerons and flap. Dropped right in also had to modify the flap mounts with 1/8th inch ply.

I also added 1/8th inch ply to the turbine rails. What they call ply is some thin balsa with some sort of filler in the middle and screws would not tighten without stripping out from what I see.

Odd type of materials being used. Have not figured out what it is.

Its a carbon fiber looking sticker. Its is stuck directly to the balsa wood sheeting.
