Don't know!
My 2300 was $800 less than a P-120 and the difference in thrust was only 2 pounds. The 2300 works great.

THe P-80 is over 19 pounds of thrust now.

Just keep asking owners and you will find out what the difference is. I can't say any more because of commercial restrictions.

I don't why either.
I must be a sucker. I bought three P-80 lately.
My first Jetcat engine is P-120. It had over 500 flight to this day.
Send in three time for maiden service.
Each time average cost $350. Get it back less than 10 days.
Maybe that why I like to paid higher price than other engine.

So the implication is that Jetcat is very reliable. That's good, but is it notably more reliable than Simjet?
I don't read simjet owners complaining in here, nor in the support forum. Maybe Jetcat owners are more vocal in their appreciation?

I have 100 flights on my 2300/Roo now, and it's run perfectly all the time.
What more can you ask for?

Hi I have a old simjet I think its a 1750 Air start,Gold cover,Runs to this day perfect, Ive owned P-80 I can say the simjet is much faster on spool up time and this is important to consider when flying Jets.

What Pete doesn't tell you up above is he sent his Simjet 1700 to Simjet in Canada in June then they sent it to the Netherlands and he just got it back a couple of weeks ago. I on the other hand sent my P80 to Jet Cat on Monday and had it back by Friday. That is what I think is the big difference.

Watch the classifieds like a hawk! There are a number of poeple looking and generally you need to be quick to snap up any bargains.

Hi Scott

The lengthy turn around time on Pete's engine was unusual and not the rule. Average turn around is is about one week.

Probably get an ear bashing for saying this but.....
Both Simjet and Jetcat are good engines.
But Jetcat wins as they have better electronics than Simjet.

I take my Simjet to Carlos at RTI and he fixes it right then and there no wait. The guy is the best I have seen in turn around time. Who wants to wait weeks for repairs especially out of state repairs? But for a Simjet if you get one that works out of the box you got one of the best engines on the market, mine has almost no spool time and it fires up every time. I just wish they had a true US Distributor here in the states...

For the most I have seen Jet Cats and Simjet and they all have there own problems, Just use your better judgement.

Dave

My jetcat p-80 is putting out right at 19 lbs, after the ecu 4.9 upgrade. Its a beast! Oh and very reliable. Keep this in mind, i needed a jetcat rep to come out and help for my waiver process. It was awesome, jason s was out at my house the same week. Now, he happened to be coming to phoenix then, but still thats first class. Also, i had a fuel problem when we tried to run the jet (self induced), and he said "lets work it out". I will always fly jetcat.

My Jetcat P-80 Has been flawless after the ecu 4.9 upgrade. Four starts and flights in mid 50 degrees overcast day. BUT I would like to have faster spool up time like the Simjet offers. With only 400 ft of paved runway landing approaches have to be perfect!
A missed approach and throttle lag is not my kind of fun.

JetCat Service...............
How many of you guys remember the Utah meet this year, when Bob Wilcox disassembled Ed Allen's P-80 to make some field repairs after a belly landing in Ed's BobCat XL? Lots of guys were there video taping the disassembly and the assembly procedure at my pit.
Bob used my tools and the vice in my trailer to get Ed back in the air again. There were lots of wide open eyes, and plenty of questions were asked and answered. Afterward, Ed finished flying the meet, and won the trophy for the Best Sport Jet with his very first jet! How's that for "above and beyond'?
Bob Wilcox delivered my first JetCat, a P-120, to me at another meet this year, after talking to him on Jason Somes' cell phone the previous day from the meet. How many others would do that? I sent him the money Monday after the meet. That's customer service!

The reason for my mentioning this, is that you CANNOT get or ask for better customer service than JetCat delivers. Bob and Matt have been able to help many of us here in this area. You seldom need to ask for help at any of our local meets when they are there. They OFFER it. We are very fortunate to have them in our area.

They understand exactly what customer service is, and go out of their way to deliver it. One manufacturer went down the drain because they didn't understand that the turbine community is small, and word travels fast. Screw one customer, and the whole community sees it on the internet the same day.
Lets hope that good words travel as fast.

I have never owned a Simjet. I do own a JetCat P-120 which has been flawless.

If Simjet were truly a better turbine, or even a just-as-good turbine, only a fool would pay hundreds more for a JetCat.

In my opinion, I think the difference is far less about good service than it is about not needing that service in the first place! Sure, eventually they will all need servicing but JetCat seems to go much longer between needed servicings.

I personally know some experienced jet pilots who have tried Simjet and were not that happy with them. The last thing I want, when spending thousands of dollars on an engine, is to risk dissatisfaction with an engine just to save a few hundred dollars. From what I have seen and heard, it is a risk that I am not willing to take.

For all of those happy Simjet owners, I am happy you are pleased with your engine.

Just to clarify things a little, YES the SimJet turbines are much lower in price than the jetcat at the moment and there is a very good reason for this. The last 2 years the dollar have gone down from app 8,5 Danish kroner to 6,3 kr. this should have made the SimJet turbines 25 % more expensive in the USA like jetcat But close to a year a go we had the feeling that this fall of the dollar would continue for a while and that this was a part of the politic to get the economic on track again in the USA.
As a company that export more than 98 % we have the possibility to buy a insurance to cover us from currency fluctuations so we don’t like jetcat have to raise our prises every time the dollar go down.
Normally the SimJet prices would be close to that of a Jetcat , so the price difference are not due to lower production cost or quality.

Reg. The electronic , yes it is right that we in 2001 had problems with the electronic and we spend more than 150 thousand dollar to produce new ECUs and send more than 450 new ECUs FOC to all the SimJet owners we could track that had this 2001-D1 version.

If you look back over the last 12 years that SimJet made and sold turbines the quality SimJet turbine it self have newer been a issue at all it is A1 like the jetfuel.

It may surprise some that I say this , Jetcat do make good turbines , and not so surprisingly so do SimJet and I must congratulate them they have been much better I damage control than we have, when we at SimJet back in 2001 realised we had a problems with the Ecu and same day went public on our homepage and did inform all our dealers that we hat to get all the 2001-D1 ECU back and would send new instead, the forums thread did not say , look at the good service SimJet provide they tell you there is problem and would like to correct it for you FOC ,I refer to the hardware and software problems with the P.160 I must say they are good at it , well don.

We at SimJet also know that it is very easy to loss your reputation and very hard restore it, but with the new D2 and D3 ECU we have had no more problems than any other manufactures in this business, and we are actually selling a lot of engines, but it is very hard to kill hearsay and roomers often from guys how don’t have a SimJet or not are up to date.

Ed and Kevin of great northern models have preformed a fantastic job of getting SimJet service and sales on track in north America and in less than one year they did traced down nearly all SimJet turbines in north America and got the logistics set up and are to day providing a excellent service.

Best regards
Lars Nohr

When purchasing something of this dollar value, you need to look beyond the initial investment price. How much will it cost you down the road a ways? What kind of service will you get from the manufacturers? I bought a JetCAT for this very reason. The service after the sale is exceptional. Bob Wilcox and company don't just take your money and send you on your way. You're part of the JetCAT family at that point.

To be fair, I have no experience with any other manufacturer so I am not knocking them in any way.. just offering what I know from JetCAT as a paying customer.

I bought a simjet 2300 and have enjoyed it so much that I purchased another simjet 1200. I had my 2300 in for service (over the pond) and it was back in my hands in 11 days. I think that it is only a matter of preference of which engine you buy. But for the price, you cant beat the simjet price. I am sure that you could not go wrong with either engine. Once again, I think it is preference.
