I take my check ride for my Private Pilots license this Sunday. I started taking lessons on the 26th of last month and have worked my behind off... hope it pays off!!
Maybe I'll fly to Tucson!? Maybe Will will let me fly his RV-4... Maybe not!
Wish me luck!

Lets see now, model airplanes, motorcycles, flying full scale and oh yeah, a new born. Where the heck do you find the time? Get some rest and good luck. Hey, when you get the time come on down to the Basin for some flying.

John,
I took the written test on 2-6 and scored a 92. Hopefully that is good enough to get me a little break, we will see. I can handle 45 minutes, not 4 hours like some others I have talked to!
Sung,
I BARELY found the time, actually had to borrow a little from other areas, like model jets.[
] But I wanted to finish as fast as I could, owning a plane is very expensive even when it is not in the air! So if it going to cost me money, it might as well be flying me around! I will be at the Basin as soon as I can "crear the plate" a little. Are you going to Tucson?
LOOK OUT BUCK!!! JOININ THE MARINES TO FLY WITH YOU NEXT!!!!
Hope to see you in Tucson too buddy! Better bring the monster 18!

Once again... you will have no problems. You will now have no excuses for not coming to VNY and the basin to visit us. Its a short flight.

My One word of advice for you seeing i have signed off many students to take their private. You are going to make mistakes accept that and when you do forget about them!!!! Move on and dont dwell on a mistake!!!
Hopefully you will pass the first time, but the reason I say move on from mistakes is because if you do make a big safety related mistake and you dont pass ( not saying that you will make the mistake) you will only be re-tested on the areas you made a mistake in. So be conservative be SAFE and RELAX!!!! If your instructor signed you off chances are you will pass. Just realize we all make mistakes. In my 12,000 hours of flight time and my dozens of check-rides (which reminds me I have one this month DAMN I HAVE TO STUDY!!!!) I have never flown or never expect to fly the perfect ride. When It comes to flying you never master it. You just become more and more proficient with each flight, checkride, and learning experience. GOOD LUCK I WILL NEVER FORGET THE DAY I GOT MINE!!!!
Have FUN,
Pete

hey bro' if the examiner even thinks about turning south with the test, just cold crunch him and when he comes to just stand over him with arms spread out and pull a Happy Gilmore...."you think you're better than me?"

just relax and demonstrate your proficiency

Just have to give you my story. Breezed through the pre-flight questions and walk-around. got in, took off, filed my flight plan and headed out. After I had made a couple of waypoints, the examiner had me cancel the flight plan and headed me over to the practice area. Everything going perfect.......all my safety procedures textbook. Then he says "Set up for an emergency landing" No sweat, done this plenty of times. Pull back power, set up best glide and start making slow sweeping S turns. I'm looking for the biggest, flatest piece of real estate with no obstructions. After what seemed an eternity, I point out a really nice patch just to our 10:00 postion. He leans forward, looks. "Yea, that's really nice BUT what about this airport to our right?" OMG, I thought I was going to die, figured I had certainly flunked my ride. He just grinned and laughed, apparently he does this to all his examinees. Anyway, I passed and learned another lesson at the same time. As everyone has been saying, relax, try to enjoy this. Things will go fine BRG, Rick Page

Took my Private check-ride a few years ago and almost flunked it because I got lost. The ironic thing is, shortly after I became an HC-130H Navigator and have logged over 2,000 hrs. So remember, "lost" is a relative term. I always know where I'm at. Best of luck!! Fly safe!

Hi,
The "average" person requires about 70 hours these days to prepare for the PP checkride. How many hours did you take, and are you saying you did it all in 30 days?? Personally, I think that's a little bit too fast, but that's just my personal opinion. At that rate, I find that things are coming at me so fast, it's tough to appreciate all the implications and absorb the material.
Good luck on your checkride, and once you pass, sign up for instrument training!
John

Thank you all for the replies!
I took the Ground Oral portion of the check ride today. Everything seemed to go really well and the test lasted just over an hour. I take the flight test tomorrow at noon weather permitting. We had to split the time up because on conflicting schedules.
PJFaller,
That is very good advise, I will try to remember it during the flight.
Buck! The first part sounds like more fun, but I will do my best on the second.
ezflyer,
I have a total of 42.5 logged hours including the dual. I took my first lesson on the 26th which was a little more than a month ago. I also have been flying a 2 seat ultralight for the past few years and have over 150 hours in it. To be honest I found GA aircraft to be easier to fly than ultralights. I know it does sound like a short amount of time but I have worked very hard during the last month and like PJFaller said "If your instructor signed you off chances are you will pass." Hopefully this plays true!

Good luck with it Kenny, you'll do fine.
I had to laugh at Rick Pages's story.
Exactly the same scenario happened to me, the examiner cleverly positioned us directly over an unused field for the forced landing. I missed it also............
That was nearly 25 years ago, I still chuckle about it now. The examiner and I have become very good friends and still fly together today. And yes your right, he did it to all his victims.
Passing the test was an extremely satisfying experience for me, but the one thing thats embedded in my mind as the BEST, is my first solo, still brings a tear to my eye.........
Cheers

Well I did it. I passed and got my ticket today!
You guys were in my mind when the power was pulled from me today... I looked long and hard for the hidden runway under me somewhere! There wasn't one (that I could see anyway) but I was still able to find a spot.
My wife was at the airport when I landed and jumped right in for her long awaited ride. She loved it so much she had me fly her up to Harris Ranch for some steak tonight! Man what a rush!!
Thank you all for to best wishes!
By the way, at what age can children fly if the descents are slow?

Man you guys are killing me.
My wife still said no about me go take class for private license.
She told me I don't have enough time to take care my R/C business. If I take a class. There isn't time for family.
I don't know when I can make time for this flying lesson.[&o]

I have been taking my son up flying with me since he was a 4 month old infant. At that age, they are like a sleeping HOBBS meter, they fall asleep as soon as the prop starts turning!
One word of caution, the cabin noise level is quite loud for their young ears so you need to find some form of ear protection for them.
Enjoy,
Peter
