Thanks to all that have helped on the Topcat! Its alive! BKF, check it out.....
After range checking and making sure all our safety and fire suppression stuff was in line and ready if need be, I went for it. With the great help at the JOW field from some great people it took to air for a perfect flight. It started out as a high speed taxi and it felt so good I gave it some up, never did hit full throttle yet! Cant wait to go back and get even more used to it!
Was a great day, two others maidened their bobcats while we were there too.
I have vid if I could only figure out how to get them small enough to show
Take off, sorry about quality, its off the vid cam.

Congraulations !!
John,
I for one am glad to see your project was a success! What kind of Range did you finally get. Obviously you were satisfied with it," and all seems to be OK. Did you setup your fail-safe for shutdown? And did you check your ECU fail-safe counter, and was it showing zero?
I would like feed back from any other pilots, so we can all come up with an acceptable minimum distance for the range check. We all know the average maximum range is 300 feet or 1/2 a mile. DavidR thinks 85 to 90 paces is fine, I agree if we are talking normal paces, which equal about 3 feet each. My thoughts on the minimum are that your radio should work perfect farther out than you could ever imagine letting your aircraft get, while it's either on the ground or very close to the ground!

Well, I forgot to put the GSU on it after the flight, I thought of it after I turned it off
We got 1/4mile range running on the worst side of the plane and the plane 1' off the ground. Without it running I would get farther, ECU aint so quiet!
Failsafe was to shut down, ECU set to kill after 3 sec.
Damn I feel good!:rainfro:
But, I am pissed at myself for not checking that hitmeter.
BKF, mail me tomorrow with the address you want me to send the vids to and see if you can make sense of them. Thanks

Hey John,
I will give you a big pat on thye back for a successful flight.
Have a ball with it, and glad I could be of help in the construction of the Topcat.
Were the CG balance and throw/expo recomendations to your liking?

Lee,
Being a Contractor I often measure conduit runs by stepping them off so I am pretty confident that my steps equal around 3'.
Woketboy...who rattled your cage? You gunna be at Lumberton Saturday?
JohnVH,
Congratulations on the maiden, I know you are glad to get it behind you. What was the difference between ECU unplugged and ECU plugged in? With the engine running you are likely getting noise from the pump and not ECU. If the ECU was on but engine not running the only difference is the pump.

Thanks Terry! You helped out a ton on getting that thing done I went with a little expo and never did switch off the recommended minimum throws, we will see on the next flight when I start to do more with it.
David, Ill reword it so its better, with the ECU off I get alot of range, with it on I lose some, not as much as I did the first time, I think I have the ant. mounted in a good spot now to clear it better. With it running I lose a little bit more, I dont remember the measurements now, I think it was around 3.5-4/10 of a mile not running, and 2.5/10 of a mile running, on the worst range side with the model 1' off ground.

All I do is click on the url for the vid and the computer does the rest.
Sometimes it used Windows media player and that works. BUt......... Sometimes it wants to use Quicktime, and that doesn't.

My Quicktime says it needs a file that it can't find. I have Quicktime 6
