I have a real JHH Hawk ready to fly if anyone is interested.
It's in almost perfect shape.
It's been flying on a KBV .72 and a dynamax but I'm selling it with an O.S. 46 and a turbax fan.
Spring airs and wing fences.
Just add rx and fuel.
PM me with an offer if anyone wants one ready to go.
Like I said, it's not a knock off, it's an actual JHH kit.

It flys ok with the 46. Needs about 300ft to get airborn. It takes a lap until it gets on step and speeds up. Top speed is maybe 100mph or a little more. You need a shallow dive to do a loop.
Weight is around 10.5lbs

Got my ebay AMD Hawk today
really fast delivery, dispatch date was the 8th !!! Massive box about 5ft long !
Have to say the external finish a brilliant, all painted with a a real deep shine, seems very well put together.
Going to go through it though as ARTF have a habit of being under glued. Saying that everywhere seems to have a extra fillet of glue.
All the wood seems to have been fuel proofed or varnished, like the idea of a mount for the retract air tank.
The cockpit is painted and and the instrument panels have gauges/displays real pity they never added some pilots. Only other thing is the canopy is all red where the centre bar should be white, easy enough to put right.
Decals are already applied and lacquered, I think it would make a brilliant display model for a shop as it really looks the part.
Really pleased, fantastic value for money,

Cant find your post, and the search feature do'snt seem to work very well as i typed in retracts and it came up with nothing, eyt I had mentioned retracts myself only a couple of posts ago. ! Dos'nrt matter will troll though it again from the start.
Anyone
Just curious to know how do you start a OS91/Dynamax in this installation ? Hex ball socket heli style from under the cockpit hatch ? not much room with the fuel tanks etc.

My Hawk is not the AMD but the one being sold for around $150 to $175 on EBay. The exhaust duct on that version is somewhat small for the DynaMAx. I'm having to fabricate the engine cap (which was not included) and make an adapter to fit the tailpipe. I'm making a new tailpipe as it was very heavy. Mine weighed six ounces. I'm sure I can reduce that to about three ounces and that should save a total of about eight ounces as I won't have to add four or five ounces of lead in the nose to compensate for it.
Good luck.

I just bought a Hawk for my OS91 / Ramtec fan I still have at home.
What kind of servos do you guys recommend for the different control surfaces? Do I need to go for high torque on all surfaces or can I use standard 3kg servos (HS-325HB) on some??
Thanks !!!

Good morning, I'm Italian.
I have bought on eBay auction the AMD Red Arrows Bae Hwak and I thought to powered it with a BVM Viojett and a BVM 91 engine.
I don't have experience with the BVM engine and fan, but they are many years that I build ducted fans model with Rossi engines and Byron fans.
I wanted to know if the exit duct in fiberglass that is in the kit of the Hawk is good for the BVM engine and BVM fan installation?
Excuse for the not good english,
Thanks,
Max.

Well, Max, your english is better than my Italian, so don't worry about that!
The BVM fan and engine have plenty of power, but may be a little difficult to install in the Red Arrow Hawk. The kit I have didn't even have the engine cover cap for any type of fan. Lucky for me, I had made a mold from one I had in a previous kit I had many years ago. I am still going to have to make a custom fitting for the engine housing in my Hawk. The BVM Fan rear end is not round like most other fans. The back of the fan housing has a molding to go up and over the engine cylinder head for better air flow in the duct and will require an engine cap made to fit the rear of the fan housing. If you have one of those, I'm sure you will have no problems installing the BVM Fan.
I found the exhaaust tube that was in my kit to be very heavy, and I have made a much lighter one. I will have some photjhos on my web site once I get the fan installed.

Thanks Joe for your answer.
Yes, I know well the form of the BVM Fan, and the rear it isn't rear round.
I had thought about to prepare a die to build the engine cover cape.
For the exhaust tube in fiberglass, also mine is very heavy!!!
What materials do you have used to made the new exhaust tube?
Please, what is the address of your website?
For the BVM engine, I don't have experience because is my first BVM.
What type of fuel (oil, nitro, %,...) and glow plug is better?
Now at the moment I have the BVM 91 and Fan, but I have a problem: I don't have the tuned pipe!!
I see that exist two types of tuned pipe: the normal pressure and the puffer pressure.
What is the best?
Excuse for many questions,
Max.

Some of your answers -
Fuel needs 23% oil and either 10% or 5% nitro. I run Wildcat "Jet A" which is 5% nitro, 23% oil and the motor loves it.
Plug - McCoy #9, often local hobby shops that cater to car guys will have these.
Pipe - I run puffer pressure which works well. Use 5/32" brass tubing with dubro large barbs soldered on in your tanks and for all joining tubes. Large silicone tubing for all the soft connections.

Max.
Here is the link to my web page. I got off to a good start, and then stopped taking photos. sorry guys.
I have to agree with everything Chris said about the fuel, glow plugs, tubing, etc. All right on! I only use 5% to 7% nitro with 23% oil. I had to misx my own for what I'm using now. A gallon of 5% mixed with a Gallon of 10% nitro, and add enough oil to bring it up to 23%.
DO use 5/32 I.D. tubeing in your tanks as well as to the engine. 1/8 ID may cause you to have difficulty in adjusting the engine resulting in a too lean condition and that will ruin your engine!
My exhaust tube in the kit wieghed six ounces. Very heavy. I made a new tube by laying up a sheet of glass using two ounce fiberglass cloth. Wax and then spray ro brush mold release on a sheet of glass. Cover it with the piece of fiberglass colth and wet it our with epoxy resin. Use only enough to wet it out. I spread it out with a credit card to remove as much resin as I could. All it does is add weight.
I also masde a former at the rear of the wing saddle and hatch opening to give the new tube support, since it is light. I have not made up the enclossure for the negine yet. I have taken some pohotos on laying up the tube material, and will show that process on my web site in a few days. Stay tuned..

Hi Will,
Can you please give me the contact details of Grace of NYC. I'm interested in the t-45 you got. By the way, how do you find it in terms of flying it?

Dave at Colchester models the UK Hawk importer and the Wren guys flew on the old 44 with the lower wing loading, they said they preferred it to the 54. Drop them a line and see what they say currently.

Got all carried away and went up the road to Colchester A1 models and bought one.... It looks very good I am very impressed lots of good hardware and a very well finished model... In my normal way I will do a full detailed build thread but probably over on RC Groups. I will post a link when I start. I think I will be putting the new Wren 44 gold in her
